Nicely done. The magic square in this engraving is that associated with the planet Jupiter. All lines, diagonals and quarters add to 34. Jupiter was sometimes employed as a counter action against the effects of melancholy. 34 when added together is 7. The number associated with Saturn, who is associated with melancholy. The hour glass is also a symbol of Saturn as is anything which is a symbol of time. The tolling of the bell for instance. Durer left his mark in the bottom line of the square. the 1 and the 4 are the first and fourth letters of the alphabet. His initials. And of course the year 1514.Thanks again.

In an artist there is always that desperate desire to display his inner self….in this picture he is crying out-it seems to me- “come and tidy up “….The Bible talks about the “narrow path we have to walk on “…………..to connect to ourselves, instead of being a Slave to the World…..
    I love Durer

Excellent video Paula, I'm glad someone else sees that the angel is not a beautiful morose woman but more of an androgynous figure at a minimum and probably a self portrait as you suggest. I believe that in addition it is also a reference to angel numbers. These are triple digit harmonics which show up in unison in the 37th harmonic. Is he suggesting that the correct notes can raise the stone up the ladder. I made a video on this geometry, I hope you have time to look and suggest where to take this new information.

@@PaulaWallaceSCAD thank you. I agree that there is so much more. As an example I would guess that the village on the lake is a real village. If that could be identified maybe from the mountains behind there would be further information from that. It would be easy to spend years on this!

you cant judge art art is only meaningful to people who paint it there is no value or more creative people out there we are all = if you think that Leonardo is any better then a grade 2 artist then you aren't doing art. Art is from the heart not from the eyes im tired of people going on about how they weren't Goodenough to enter a arts degree because they sucked because there is no such thing as bad art all art is good and its a personal prospective so just remember that to everyone this is me doing a PSA and see you all later

Dürer knew very well how to draw and peint himself. I don't think that is Dürer. Its clearly a female and and it's reflected in her face and curves in her waist. Düre was very aware of his physical and face features; like his very curly hair, his long face with not that much cheeks, his long male nose, and of course his facial hair. So this isn't him.
