I had one more question. My betta is pretty agressive (sometimes even tries to pick on the snail I have). Are there any fish I can add to the tank that have a better chance of not being picked on by my betta?

I'm 12 minutes into this livestream and am realising I've done the exact opposite of everything Cory's recommended, lol. I like to tell myself that my tank isn't perfectly aquascaped, but it mimics what the natural environment would look like...it helps me sleep at night.

It’s like fashion, just be confident with what you have. Maintain and keep your tank looking great and others will assume your tank choices and placements were super trendy.

Thank you for an outstanding live-stream. I could not stay for all of it, but I did watch the entire replay. I think you did an excellent service to many, who can be misguided, and then discouraged by shiny videos, not understanding the commitment in time and resources, and patience it takes. And that often the aquariums seen are set up with the intent for videography or photographing, and then taken down, not to be maintained long term.

I’ve always loved looking at aquascapes but I am a perfectionist and if something doesn’t work out it leaves me very frustrated. So I have opted for a low-tech planted tank where I randomly put whatever wherever and I think the real fun is watching the fish interact with the plants. I love seeing them weave in and out of the stems. This works much better for me but when I buy a bigger tank I will attempt to “aquascape”.

I have to agree with you on the solo betta, especially in Splendens. I've tried keeping a male and female together as well, and it works out alright for about a week before one of the two starts nipping at the other more than I'm comfortable with.

1:35:50 I've seen this before. They look like mini jellyfish and are pretty interesting creatures. It was hard to find any documentation on them as they are exceedingly rare. They are not hydra. They also are not harmful to nano fish and usually go away after some time. If they persist I would stop feeding the tank for a week and feed lightly until they are gone.

    @Aquarium Co-OP
My Loricaria whiptail cats when new, did not eat either for almost a week. I tried everything & was at my wits end. What ended up working was leaving lights off for days, putting white worms in at night (they live 2 days in water), and keeping tank temp at 72.9. I lost 2/3rds of my stock but now, shrimp pellets, white worms & flake are eaten. Frozen & freeze dried blood worms are still not eaten. I don't see feeding but it's gone in morning. Driftwood, mulberry & catappa leaves, java moss, crinum c, rock & caves & med flow with slightly soft water. Daphnia and seed shrimp are in the water ( I can't tell if they are being eaten). I'm still trying algae wafers. I can now turn lights on daily. Hope this helps.

carpeting plants that take years to fill in are the best. You get to tell your friends your working on it and give it a couple years, and like a year later you say yeah i still got a few years to go and years down the road when it is all filled in they will tell everyone about the years long dedication you put in to get that sick looking tank.

I always love listening to Cory and Aquarium Coop! He never disappoints! Although, for anyone later watching this who may also be wondering about algae control in a crayfish tank, I may be able to help. Crayfish are super individual in personalities, so it depends on yours. I've been lucky in that all 3 of the Procambrus crayfish I've had have been super chill dudes (Excluding when I did have some dwarf crays that were little terrors once, so small is not always better). My big crays never bothered my plants, shrimp, snails, fish. My current one I'm actually gonna get some bottom dwellers for his tank finally since he's pretty much proved he won't bother anyone. (Although do keep them well fed, he did get a little cranky during my move when we all went without food for several days; there was a close call but he did not eat anyone). I always test it out with a few faster/agile fish that stay higher level in the tank (and non-expensive!) with my snails and shrimp. If all goes well we can keep adding. It's never a guarantee, but generally, I'll take that chance. Also, most of my algae problems stemmed from some nutrient deficiencies (namely iron and potassium), once I included that with my easy green dosing everything righted itself.

You're right in that it's hard to find much in between "super high-tech meticulous aquascape with CO2 and very expensive ADA/Twinstar/Kessil lighting" and "cheap looking tank with plastic tanks." That's why I like guys like Foo the Flowerhorn and Serpadesign (though he's mostly a terrarium/paludarium guy), who make very beautiful yet natural looking scapes with minimal tech.
I personally prefer the more naturalistic style over the "trying to make the tank look like a terrestrial landscape" style (although it's still very impressive). It helps that it's a lot cheaper as well.

Maybe showcase a beginners ten or twenty gallon aquascape to display in the store instead. Use beginners plants and stuff that are easy and do not need all that? I'm going slow however....learned it's more important to find good substrate....and water parameters along with what I'm learning now about the calcium....you know KH GH all that.....beginners don't know that stuff matters too...maybe with the wonder shell in it too. Maybe some male guppies etc or easier fish as well in them.

Hi Cory, I just wanted to know if you had a sand substrate within the bamboo whiptail tank, they might like to bury themselves like the chameleon whiptail and may not feel comfortable without it. Having lots of dither fish above them might help as well and I think you can also contact Jeremy Basch as he was working with lip brooders last time I checked. Best of luck Cory hopefully they eat soon.

@Aquarium Co-Op the new fish not eating have you tried using Algae or garlic with foods with the new Catfish. If you haven't tried so far grow natural algae alot of fish and free food to grow algae. Placing wood/rocks outside in aquarium water with ferts added to grow natural algae use sealed plastic bags, tubs, bath tubs etc. The garlic method using vegetables Spinach,Broccoli(Stem),Cauliflower,pumpkin,zuccinn/Courgettei,squash etc (For others that haven't tried before you pull cooking time at half point to what you serve for yourself and use organic/home grown if you can, some can fowl water so water changes may need doing after removal overnight ie place in at dinner time removal before breakfast)

It's all about balance. If you have black rim then put a black thing on bottom. Use lots of small lights to create shadows and depth and different rocks but remember balance in colour and pattern. Use mirrors to create space. Look at every sqare of you aquarium and make sure each square makes your eyes move easly to the next square. It should all flow together. Use wood to enhance with pattern and colour. Plants should never cover anything completely. Half close your eyes and look, what jumps out at you? Does it jump out to much that other things don't get any attention. Look at everything as a pattern.

I might have missed it when watching 'cause I'm in the UK and it's always super late on when I see these streams but was there mention of good substrate for a planted scaped tank? I do like how most darker or mix sand substrate looks but I remember you saying it kinda sucks for rooting on plants because of how compacted it gets and I just wonder what kinda options I have there. Well... I my opinion if you have co2 in your tank, it like beating a cold with antibiotics. You don't want to use too much, or too little.
And as a bonus, with healthy beautiful plants, you get a lot of trimmings, and som plants can be re-plantet. = new SKILLS and save MONEY!! 🤑

Wouldn't it be sweet if you could create "groups" of lights in the Fluval app so that you could export the same preset to multiple lights at once rather than having to go in and out of different lights? I know it isn't a feature everybody would use, but for people like Cory running multiple lights on a single large aquarium, it would be a MASSIVE time saver.

Not a aquascaping question but a VERY important question I have needed answers for for a loong time. How often do you absolutly have to trim your lionhead's wam? I have heard sometimes you don't need to do it at all? How do i know how to pick one with a wam that does not need trimming in the future? And do you think both fish will be happy if I add one lionhead goldfish in my 50 gallon tank with my black moore goldfish? (one BM and two huge applesnails, they have lived togheter since i rescued the black moore as a baby. Got her 50% off cause' she would have died the next days beeing three times smaller than everyone else not to mention the tank beeing 30 gallon with 25 diffrent goldfish all biting the weakest, so small and skinny compared to the others, almost giving up, just kept floating to the top. The girl working there mocked me for buying a ''dead fish'' to her co-workers straight in front of me.. She is now BIG, chuncky and happy. Super healthy, strong and confident so I feel like she is ready for some fishy company!
