Thank you for watching! Here is a blog post on how to declutter sentimental items: shannontorrens.com/how-to-part-with-sentimental-items/
Your mom is so pretty. Doesn't look like she's going to be 65. She's doing so good decluttering.
Thank you Sonya! She has a lot of energy too, more than me.
@@shannontorrens1 touch wood. Sending love to your mom from India!
This time your box was way too small. 🤣 It's such a lovely bonus when you expect it to be hard and then it's not.
Your mom seems like such a dear person. She brings so much positivity to your videos. ☺
I love when your mom joins you! She shares her struggles and inspires us all!
Thank you!💛
Me too! I had a lot of things your Mom had! I am 68......
Yes, I totally agree, and she is such a great person just like Shannon 🥰
I really struggle with sentimental, inherited, vintage/antique items! Not many people seem to want them anymore either, so it makes letting them go even harder.
What does help me is realizing that I'm in my mid-60s, and there aren't many years ahead of me anymore. When you're young, you can keep things for "later", but not so much when you're a senior.
Your mom ( I Just love her!) is getting better at letting go.
Thank you Lisa! I agree it is getting easier.
I am very proud of your Mom. She made it look easy. You are blessed to have each other. How fun to be able to work together.
I love when your mom comes on camera.
Erica, I get as excited to see her as I do when you go through another box! I just had to binge watch your year of decluttering --for the third time!!
Thank you Erica!
@@danabrown2391 oh Dana! How lovely of you! Stay safe. :) ❤️❤️❤️
I found your channel recently and I have to say that I love these videos with your mom. My mom wants me to help her and watching y’all helps prepare me for the workload I will be facing.
Love watching videos with u and your mom...
I love your mom! She has really been working her decluttering muscles. I’m so proud of her.
I agree decluttering is a muscle and it gets easier over time.
Your mom is such a good sport to do this for us all to see. Thank you both!
Our pleasure!
Your mom is so pretty! She does not look 65 at all! She did a great job decluttering 🙌🏻
Oh thank you!
I’m just finding this decluttering with mom series and I am absolutely loving it! It’s so great to see you convince the older generation that it’s okay to get rid of some things and give them joy for someone else!
Thank you!
Love it when you are with your mom too! You both are just precious!
Your mom looks great! Way to go!! I’m 55 and decluttering. When we have to sell & move one day, going to be so much easier with less stuff. I love just having what I love & need.
You can do it!
Motivating! Wish I had someone to help me but since I don't I will just go slower.
Your mum is a star.. And it is great how you motivate and support your mum on her decluttering journey 🤗
I REALLY like your mom ❤💚💙
One way I decluttered serving pieces for parties was to buy multiples of stackable serving dishes/platters. Got rid of all the unique/specialty dishes because no one noticed them once they are covered by food. 🤣
It can be a lot easier to store things when they all fit together.
Oh man, I would have been so tempted to take everything I was offered and drive it straight to the donation center. My mom used to send me the stuff she didn't want since we lived far apart. I so could have used the money she spend on postage for groceries. Why do we do this to our daughters? How many generations of stuff must we keep? I love the minimalism movement. It is so healthy.
Your Mom's practical approach was great! She knew you wouldn't want to inherit the items so let them go to someone who would like to have them! That helps with the struggle with sentimental items! ❤ 👍 👏
Absolutely! It makes it easier on me too, because if I inherited it all then I would feel I have to keep everything.
Your mom is so precious 💗 I love watching videos of her because she is so sincere.
I love it when your mom is in your videos. She's right about decluttering as we get older. I'm 55 but already downsizing because I don't want to have to pack and move all of the stuff I have.
When we moved a year and a half ago I was so happy we had become minimal.
Your mom is lovely. Hug her today. You are so lucky to still have her. 💖
Thank you, I will 💛
Your Mom never fails to make my day. Her struggle is my struggle!
Thank you Phyllis, it is not always easy to let go.
Great video. I appreciate your Mom and her progress! And your kindness because no, thank you is the perfect response!
And yes I just shared this with my mum. Regards Gwenn Gomes Goa India
Well done Shannon's mum! She did brilliantly with that decluttering session, I was really surprised how quick it was to get it done this time 👍😊
Oh thank you! It feels faster with every declutter session.
I love your mom, Shannon! She's so fun! She did such a good job of letting go of things she's no longer using. Great video!
Thank you so much!
Your mum looks lovely in the color she's wearing!
I knew that box at the beginning was going to be too small. Thank you for the video!
Haha that box was fill in 2 seconds LOL. We should have had more ready.
Seriously Shannon's mom, you look amazing. I enjoy the two of you and it really does inspire and help me.
Thank you so much!
What has helped me is taking everything out and then picking my favorite pieces to start putting back. When it starts to feel like I have enough I glance at all the stuff left and can usually get rid of it all. It is really working for me. It feels a lot more positive than how I used to do it which was searching for things to discard and not having much luck.
Your mom is such a good sport.
Thank you!
I love she kept asking if you want it❤️. She is so adorable!
I love your interaction with your mom! I can relate to her as I turned 65 last year and am choosing to let go of so much!
You can do it!
Another great video, Mom!! We got rid of big China cabinet when we moved to one bedroom cottage about 9 years ago. We inherited it when grandma died. But it wouldve taken up half the room...Such a relief!
It was a relief when my mom got rid of the top half of this cabinet because there was twice as much stuff before!
Sentimental items are the worst, congrats!!! You were able to edit quite a bit! I have had one tote where my sentimental items have been placed for years and years....but I have decided this year to take pictures of the items and put them in a journal (with a written description of what they are, what memories they spark, etc)...and then I can get rid of the bin completely. I mean, they live in the bin and they aren't being used or looked at - ever.....there's no need to store them. It took me QUITE a while to finally get to the place where getting rid of them is easier.
your mom is my favorite! love how she wants to give you everything. reminds me of how my mom was. ❤
“Trolls are back!........do you want it?”
Shannon: “ummm....NO.” Your mom ALWAYS cracks me up! Whoever was filming also had me laughing. The slow zoom-ins on your mom while she was decluttering were funny. Not sure why, maybe because I was anticipating one of your mom’s funny faces! Every time she offers you something and you say no in these videos makes me laugh too. What a GREAT way to start my day. Thank you 😊. PS. Trolls on the INTERNET are a REAL problem mom! Have a lovely day and good job mom and nice job as always encouraging her Shannon!
Thank you! We always have fun decluttering together. That troll plate made me laugh too, I had no idea trolls were back in style LOL.
@@shannontorrens1 I was thinking it might be gnomes in style. I saw a lot of gnome themes for Christmas and Chanukah this past season. They are actually cute and cartoonish though.
I love watching these with your mom in them!
I love seeing your mom in your videos! Whenever I see her in the main image I get super excited!!! Hahahahaha! Very useful as always 🤗🤗🤗
Thank you so much!!
I’m stuck on inherited sentimental stuff would love to hear you and your mom discuss this.
Me, too! I have a housefull of sentimental inherited things.
way to go Mom! great work you guys...so inspiring
Oh, good she kept the Kosta Boda snowball tea light holder! I have three that I cherish.
Yes she still kept a lot and plans to have a party when covid is over to celebrate.
I'm always so excited when you help your Mom declutter, its always a good haul!
Thank you! I hope you have a nice day =)
wow, sensitive, regards to mom. Brave move,, Gwenn Gomes Goa India
The sentimental items are the hardest. I have done a pretty good job with it. I love how easy you say no, when your Mom asks if you want something. Kathy (Your Mom) good job decluttering these items. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Jan! I agree sentimental things are hard for me to get rid of too.
I really appreciate you filming this. I'm only 41 but I inherited a lot of sentimental items and I've had a hard time for years letting stuff go. Ironically it looks a lot like what your Mom had and just looking at her things as stranger I was making decisions "for her", like - well, that doesn't match, get rid of cut glass etc. Now I need to be ruthless with my own things!
Yes, she is a good role model. I only began this type of declutter in my 60s. Start now and you will not regret it. It is remarkably freeing!
I agree it is so much easier to declutter for other people because we are in no way attached to these items. If only we could take the attachment away and only keep what we use and love.
Limoncello chung - your Mom is adorable and funny. You two really showed how having even one person with you when decluttering (that you trust to help you talk through items) it so helpful! Loved the video!
I love your mom. Your mom is doing amazing decluttering!!!!!!! My mom is the same age. She hasn't had that big decluttering shift she's a very sentimental person. Your mom is letting go like a champ!!!!!!
Thank you! I am so happy she is making all these decisions of what to keep and what to donate now so she can see the benefits of more space.
Ahh that nut grinder! I was just thinking of my mom's yesterday and how it was my job to always grind the nuts for baking when I was little and how I wish I had hers. I've never found one that works as well. And I bake a lot. Good job ladies!
Love your videos with your mom. You two crack me up. 🤣
Proud of you. I am older than you and I think about the things the kids will need to sort through when I'm gone. Better to do it now. thanks.
Well said!
Your Mom is so pretty and seems like a lot of fun. Cherish her. :-)
Thank you, I will and I do =)
Well done to your Mom, I remember I had so much fun emptying cupboards with my Mom, sadly she wouldn’t part with things though!
It can be hard to let go!
Shannon, Cudos to your mom for getting so much better at reducing belongings. I can't get my husband to budge. A tip for your viewers is to at least categorize a spouses items to at least make the process easier for loved ones down the road. Everything my husband is keeping is now in like bins clearly labeled. He's happy and my children know which are the important ones to keep! Great video! E!izabeth
Thank you Elizabeth! I hope you are doing well and I love that tip to get things organized.
Yay, Mom! You and I are at the same stage of life now and I’ve been doing lots of the same decluttering exercises. It feels good!.
That is awesome!
Just became a subscriber after being drawn into watching you and your Mom working together. Went back to watch a few older videos and I'm really enjoying your channel. Love the positive energy.
Awesome! Thank you!
Time spent with mom!💗
My husbands mother has sooo many stuff of this too! But she doesnt want to declutter. She never uses them, they take so much space but nope.. so your mom is really brave and modern and deserves a lot of respect! Well done shannons mom! By the way S. Hair looks sooo pretty!
Wow your mom did such a great job! Very impressive! X
Well done!! She makes me laugh, her face and yours with the troll plate and the ones you made 🤣🤣. Take care XXXX
I love the paintings in your Mom's room. So beautiful.
Thank you so much! We painted those ourselves LOL
Your Mam did so well decluttering well done to her 👍👍👍
Thank you so much 😊
Loved this video!!!! I had been wanting to work with this category in my house. So helpful! Good job Mom! I enjoy when you two work together.
A lot of those are worth selling!
Thank you, I think she is going to sell a few.
As usual I always love watching your videos with your mom. I just love your relationship.😊💖🙏
The two of you are adorable. Reminds me of me and my daughter. So sweet.
😊 thank you
My mom is also in her 60s and we are on the same declutter her stufd journey. These videos have been good motivation for us both!
Oh I am so happy they are helping. =)
I really love the juxtaposition of the two of you... Your mom coming from more of the "maximalist" and how she's making an effort to be thoughtful about her possessions... I also liked hearing her describe where all the items came from 👍
Thank you so much!
Loved it! I find it easy to let things go, just like your Mom.
It seems to get easier the more we go through things =)
Do you want it?🤣🤣Such a fun video! Your Mom did great!
Thank you 🤗
Yes yes yes on the parties!!!!!I miss my extended family sooooo much....
Hi Ronda, it is very hard to be away from family. I hope you are doing well.
Do you want it?! This was so good to watch. And entertaining. Thumbs up!
Shannon, you and your mom are a delight to watch! Very motivational and encouraging. Your tips are great and I like your realistic approach to decluttering. I will be watching your declutter with mom playlist as I tackle my mountain of the past.
Thank you so much!
Dear Shannon, how could we, your subbies, not have an amazing day after watching the two of you. Your love and respect for each other starts the day right. I think your mum's optimism is fun to watch, "do you want this?" we will all laugh when the day comes and you say "yes". 🇦🇺
Once in a while I take something I can use or is from a family member, but I feel my house is already full.
Shannon I love seeing you and your mom declutter together, it reminds me of me with my mom, she used to call me ruthless, and I am the one who helps my daughter declutter, I can throw almost anything out from years of being minimal so my declutter muscle is strong, my daughter on the other hand has trouble letting things go. I Swedish death cleaned years ago, because I knew my daughter would be in trouble one day
It is great you are able to help your family! I feel the same way about decluttering being a muscle.
Yay, good job mom! My parents were in that same generation, they had 3 or 4 sets of China for entertaining. My mom has trouble getting rid of sentimental items while my dad wants to keep items because they might be valuable!
My husband gets a new small appliance because the toaster/coffee maker isn't working as well now, but then keeps the old one cor just in case! Aargh!!
Hi Beth! That is exactly what my grandma had done and then passed things down to my mom and said they were worth a lot of money and after a quick google search we realized most of the stuff was worth nothing.
We keep telling my dad “It’s only valuable if you can find someone who wants to buy it!”
Do proud of your mom she did great congratulations 👏 💜
Thank you!!
I can SO relate to your mom. 😊
I hope you have a nice day.
You two are so sweet and smart too!
You are so kind 💛
love watching you and your mum from Australia. She is such an attractive lady as are you! Doing well decluttering together. Jo xx
Great job ladies!!! I’m so proud of you! So inspirational!!!! 😁
Thank you so much!!
She did an amazing job! Thanks for sharing!😊
Thank you Joy!
Brilliant as always, ive got rid of 293 items last year. I can here you cheering already. lol. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Yay! Good job!!! =)
Really great video. I find sentimental items very hard to declutter. Thanks for giving me some inspiration.🤗
I love your mom’s shirt!
I love when your mom joins you! I’m in same stage of life she inspires me to rethink what I’m keeping too. I just donated the cup and saucers from my China too small to be practical we never use. It took 30 years to get there!!
There are so many things like that, pretty items, but we don't use them because they are not practical.
Love your mom, so cute! Gulp gulp gulp. Lol
Love watching. Reminds me of my mom. Miss her, she passed away. Thanks for sharing all these videos of your mom. My mom was the same way, held on to so much stuff. Tell your mom that you will be so grateful to not have to handle all her stuff when she’s gone, but can spend more time remembering the good times and treasured memories with her.
😊 thank you
Great job!,keep the best lose the rest! you did it!!
Way to go! You took charge and that's great.
Thank you!
Loved this.......and both you and your mom are adorable.....such a sweet relationship as it should be!! Great video....good decisions!
Thank you so much!!
You and your mom are so fun/adorable together.
Thank you Katie!
This was so inspiring and was really a good way to do this. Your helping her and encouraging her. She did so good.👍💗😃
Thank you so much!
My mom is 86 and has a terrible time letting go of anything. A few years ago she moved from a large home (over 3000 sq ft) to a 1200 sq ft independent living. She moved at least 2000 sq ft of stuff with her 😩. Somehow she managed to have a daughter who was born with a minimalist tendency. She always says her mom was always getting rid of things so it must have skipped a generation. Your mom did great!
Thank you Hilary! It is hard to let go sometimes.
Your mom is BEAUTIFUL and lovely
Thank you Winnie!
This is great! I wish I could get my parents to let go of some stuff but inspiring to do so takes time
Hey Edward! Yes it takes lots of time. =)
