I am very thrilled to have come across your Channel. We need to see more of this type of content. I think it is very important that people start to recognize the favoritism particularly through editing that is becoming progressively more predominant on drag race. It really is spoiling the show for a long time loyal fans to be watching this happen. Can we talk about how they hated Jan for her enthusiasm? Every season they tell off a queen for not caring enough. Jan comes in and wants to give everything twice as much as she has, and they're like ew can you chill out Jan?
I do not agree, they were constantly telling Jan that she needs to "shape up" her energy and not to keep it @100% all the time, allowing them to fall in love with her. And I agree with them. She was a bit too much, and this did not allow her humor and CHARISMA to shine through.
She did feel like a cheerleader on adderal at times, she needed to tone it down bit in some challenges, but overall, shes really talented and I love her.
But even that’s stupid since if Sakura was safe, and it was Aiden and Brita lip syncing, it *_STILL_* would’ve been Aiden vs. Brita so literally the production was just trying to kick out Sakura.
Pixel Pudding 39 they knew that Aiden wasn’t good at lip syncing so they put Brita against Rock to push an honesty unnecessary beef which ended up destroying Brita’s mental health

For me, Crystal is one of the most intelligent queens on the show, she saw that Rupaul was obsessed with her mullet / for her and took advantage of it whenever she could (but I still think she received a favoritism)

crystal's favoritism can be understood. she had organic growth, took constructive criticism and applied it well. she could have won had she was stronger in the finals and probably had another maxi challenge win under her belt.
Alvaro Ibacache S. i can see where you’re coming from, but on season 7 pearl didn’t really show growth, she just stopped caring and let loose, which in turn made her more likable. her drag didn’t actually change or evolve, unlike crystals where you can see a clear growth as the season progressed.
I kinda agree with that, bc the edit made you feel a progression (despite favoritism), this progression, for example, was not present in Gigi's case, therefore, the favoritism was more obvious
Gigi was favoured, yes, but some people are like “oh my god every single episode she deserved to leave” like sis no she was talented, she just didn’t deserve everything she got. That’s just my opinion hahaha
That’s a fair point, but the counter being that the reason why people feel that way is the constant low placements she had. Performance in worlds worst was bad, etc etc. Also, obviously people are going to have favourites, but you cannot deny that if they actually judged on performance, Gigi would have likely gone home as early or earlier than Jan.

@@cyberpunkfashionblyawesome the show has always had a level of favouritism, but when it comes to the winner the show usually crown whoever is more popular and deserves it at the same time, like Sasha who was consistently on top, never lip synced and practically has the most iconic lip sync moment in the show, Or Aquaria who the crowd Ate up because she grew within the show and did great despite the fact the show was pushing eureka, this is more of a VH1 thing since when the show was with Logo they only crowned whoever did the absolute best and had the most challenge wins (Bianca, Bob, Tyra, Jinkx,) or whoever fit the criteria of never lip syncing twice and be a good representation (Bebe, Violet)
I disagree with Jackie being kept in that episode due to just her story. Imagine being the superfan that had your partner queen go home. You’d be crushed. It feels that episode was never going to have an elimination.
idk for me personally jackie was kept around for diversities sake but was never granted wins when she deserved them (IMO she should have won snatch game and the stand up challenge). She falls into such a weird zone where the producers 100% wanted her around for diversity points but they didn’t want her to win anything and it seems super insidious to me. Using a queen from a Muslim family and of Persian background as a marketing tool but never letting her truely succeed. Also, I think the criticism about her using her ethnicity during the challenges is kinda mute because she wasn’t just like hey look at me I’m Persian, she did things with it (most of the time..... choices 2020 *cough*), the magic carpet merkins had a strong theme and concept behind it and was much more about 60s advertisements and editing with inspiration drawn from her culture: we don’t shame Latinx queens for that, and we shouldn’t for middle-eastern queens either.
Gigi also always wore the same silhouette on the runway, being a long sleeved top/tailored coat with something short underneath. Never critiqued for it, when vanjie on s11 was always being confronted on wearing the same silhouette.
Thank you for your video. I would like to add something on Crystal Methyd. You ascribe the favouritism of Crystal to the fact RuPaul was obsessed with her mullet and she used this obsession to her advantage. You also lament that this is somehow disappointing as she is therefore reduced to a mullet and to a snippet of a song. I disagree. In the Finale episode, Ru tells her that she made it to the finale ´because she listened´ and then we see Ross saying that she had a pivot where she really went all in on her weird, which is how you win the competition. I remember watching this and feeling as I had never agreed more with the judges. Crystal entered the werk room as a clown, which is basically a statement on who she is. In episode 3 her look is heavily criticised, mostly in respect to her make up, which is called muddy and clowny. In the following episodes she significantly changes her make up according to what she was told, and the judges are enthusiastic. I remember watching her and thinking I had never seen a queen applying so well the instructions she was given, at the same time remaining true to who she was. From episode 10, having decided that she was done with the assignment, she goes back to her ´clown´ face in full mode, weird as never before, and she literally slays. I was amazed: an evolution that makes her one of the most powerful queens I have ever seen on the show. This is what RuPaul and Ross were referring to in the Finale, certainly not her mullet. Was she favoured? Probably, but to me not to the extent you describe. Totally deserved that top 3 placement to me. Most importantly, I am sure for me and many others she is not just a mullet and a snippet, but an amazing, unique and talented drag queen.
You cannot deny that season 12 was such a great season. Despite a series of unfortunate events, this was still one of the best seasons mainly because there is no filler queen this season and everyone is so memorable.
It's so ironic how 4 contestants out of the Top 5 were somewhat favored minus the actual winner of the season. We stan Jaida and the bitch deserves nothing less than that. On a side note; I agree with your arguments on Jackie's only(?) storyline this season. It really felt like we couldn't not forget a minute where she came from and she had to use it all the times to stay on the judges eyes. With that said, it's not completely on her to blame since we know that behind the scenes they ask and articulate the queens to take from them what they are insterested in showing.
Totally right with your side note, they have a confessional producer who tells them what they want to hear from them in that space. Jackie's storyline was overproduced, so was Shea's traumatic thing with Sasha and her losses in AS5.

Nomi Hagen. You can think Jujubee was way funnier but yet again the character was done 2 times already with her having similar jokes/references then before
I think what cost her the win was the commitment to the character. There were some subtle moments where she's trying not to break into laughter before/while giving the answer (e.g. the poem) whereas Shea was able to bring some funny moments and commit to portraying Flavor Flav. And the judges clearly appreciated Shea's runway more.
Without favoritism, I feel like Gigi would still make it far so it hurts to see her being favorited because she is still good but her achievements are undeserving. (I think she won snatch game tho)
She would still be successful and still be loved. I think she’d even have stood a better chance at winning. But the show putting favouritism made her feel more dislikable than she really deserved and it’s really disappointing to see.
Hi i dont know where else to say this LOL so imma say it here. I think widow von du was mistreated and shunned alot on the show, in challenges such as gays anatomy, the ball ball, madonna rusical etc because they diddnt want another silky nutmeg ganache. And the hate the fans gave to the show because of it. Aside from there physical similarities they were also quite confident, outspoken, kept it real, and stood up for themselves aswell as call out other queens. The only drastic difference is that widow von du was loved and silky was not. And if they had too lip sync for their life today, they were ready to doooo (or von du) sooo.
I have to disagree with you on the Madonna Rusical challenge (and I say this cause I try to stay neutral) because even though she SLAYED the challenge her runway look was a little basic compared to others(including Gigi's).The only reason why I say that Gigi's could have not been considered basic was because she did blonde Michelle Visage which is something none of the other queens thought of. Which is why she won the challenge. Though in Gays Anatomy Widow was Robbed 😭😭😭... but at least she was one of the tops
idk I felt Silky was portrayed as just loud as her personality. We didn't see many layers to her and she became two dimensional and unlikable on the show because of it. Widow was portrayed with having struggles and had an overall more humanising storyline to her.
I agree with most of the Gigi stuff except for when you criticised her ball look. It’s not common for queens to take the easy way out and just glue random crap to a corset and call it a look, there are times where this has been executed well such as Jaida and Nicky but other times it just turns out really bad such as Baga chips on DRUK. I believe that the judges appreciated Gigi’s craftsmanship because she made a look completely out from scratch while still being very Gigi in the fit and styling.
I agree. I think the ball challenge is more centered to using the materials that you got and make it work and Gigi did that. Completely from scratch. However, I do agree with the rest that he said. 😂
I completely agree - I acknowledge that she didn’t completely fulfil the runway look for buttons and bows but the ball look definitely deserved to win. She made a look that definitely fitted the category which was balls the wall eleganza and Gigi’s was covered stylistically in balls. Sure, it wasn’t covered in balls but that wouldn’t have been eleganza.
that’s why so many people thought gigi was going to win S12 because she was so favorited and won many challenges. she is stunning (as all the other queens are) but no queen should really be favored at all, as it ruins the fairness of the race.
About the double shantay, I chalk it up to the type of episode it was: making over SUPER-FANS. I personally wasn't shocked that there was a double save that episode because, throughout all of the reality tv that I watch, it happens a lot with super-fan episodes. Project Runway often has no elimination or uses the one save of the season on super-fan or "real-sized women" episodes BECAUSE of the involvement of the super-fans and the overall atmosphere of the episode. Producers want these kinds of episodes to be a complete celebration of the show, super positive and uplifting. I think no matter who ended up in the Bottom 2, there would've been a double save regardless.

Right?? I was looking through the spoiler subreddit and her win was leaked way before the BLM movement trended. And the finale was filmed around early May so it is fully not the reason why she won. Racist fans would just use this narrative to fit their 'robbed' fantasy and it is a disgusting way to slander her win.
I'm so sick and tired of people saying "omg Jaida only won because she's black." No Jaida won because she's fucking sickening. Jaida literally wore a basketball jersey and made it look absolutely stunning. She did just as well as Gigi in the competition serving BETTER runways in almost every episode. She has more charisma and talent, being that she makes most of her looks HERSELF. She's one of the most talented queens to every bless drag race. You can't clock her on anything even if you tried.
I'm Persian (from the same country as Jackie) and yes you are absolutely right. Jackie was only using her identity and heritage to keep herself on the show. Furthermore she played the "representation" card. Also, Jaida 100% deserved to win. Some fans don't understand that regular seasons are different from hall of fame and all stars. There are several black queens who won the regular seasons (the first 3 winners for instance) but on All Stars, the show lacked diversity so they had to bring Shea and Monét.
Love that you pointed out that Gigi was doing herself inspired by Michelle rather than just doing Michelle. I instantly remembered Michelle’s critiques of Adores look when they had the Rupaul Runway. michelle's judging process has always been such bullshit to me. she's so uptight when it comes to adore's aesthetic in AS2, n max's grey hair in s7, but excuses gigi for not having a single bow on a runway with literally ONLY 2 criteria? accepts aiden using the same damn wig every week? n as someone who loves crystal w my whole damn heart ru was absolutely keeping crystal for as long as he did bc her quirkiness made for good tv, but im kind of glad that he did. she had a rocky start but improved so much over the season, was consistently funny and a breath of fresh air w her strange drag style, but that's just me. i liked gigi initially, but she never had her own definitive style other than 'pretty white bitch', unlike other memorable fashion queens like violet. n then finding out she's apolitical, and her breaking quarantine to film w a known racist kinda made me resent her a bit. jackie's only personality trait being her heritage got v repetitive but my understanding is that she was trying to spread as much of the good message as possible before going home n i applaud her for that. jaida was not only consistently entertaining, funny, n turned LOOKS every single runway, but she was the kindest to each n every queen. heidi deserved ms congeniality, of course!! but jaida always brought other queens up, even having all good intentions talking to aiden when everyone was picking on her in untucked. one moment ill always rmmbr is when her makeover partner said that shes such a perfectionist while still being so kind n caring. she's so polished, professional, conscientious, and genuinely such a good person n she deserved that win! also jan shouldve won rusical n i will die on this hill

I do believe that Jackie was favored, but not as much as Crystal and, mainly, Gigi. That's just because Crystal won the challenge that Jackie should've won, and Gigi because of all you pointed out. Still think that Jan should've won the Rusical tho. And, because of all Gigi's favouritism, was really good to see Jaida winning.
The thing about the one woman show is do you remember what Jackie originally approached the judges with? It was pretty bad material so she was advised to go with something she knows, her family, something personal and make it funny. Crystal didn't even show off any material, she kinda stood there and panicked and they had no advise to give her, (as far as I remember). You can say Gigi was favored, we all know she was. But Jackie and Crystal? I don't think so. They grew and listened to critiques. If everything was all about performance in challenges we would have missed out on some good queens, I think personality is good for America's Drag Superstar to have in my opinion
Agreed. I've often said the only difference between Jaida and Gigi's "track record" is that when Jaida fucked up she actually had to lipsync for it whereas others were protected.
CA Santos Gigi fucked up 3 times in a row. But was saved by ru. First is during commercial challenge, she was just flat, second was during the debate, she was forgettable and not a single funny line, and lastly the one queen show, she was boring as hell, only reason why sherry was “low” was because she took forever, but her performance was funny.
i LOVE Crystal methyd but the favouritism was so obvious but Crystal was intelligent, she keep showing her mullet and stuff like that, i really think that Crystal deserves the win with Jaida in the makeover challenge
With regards to advice, not all contestants get advice; Widow and Nicky Doll both said they were just told what was wrong but not how to rectify. So that’s why they were confused and visibly upset as they’d done their best but still wasn’t enough cause they didn’t know what they needed to adjust to please the judges. And drag race isn’t about who’s the most talented (they’re all talented enough to get on the show), it’s about how well you can adjust to the task at hand.

I saw this post on Instagram about how many of the top 4 (especially recently) typically try to fill a criteria, the white fashion queen, the black pageant queen, the big girl and the lovable, quirky weirdo. This seems pretty accurate but we shouldn’t label queens into one box and top 4 queens are always talented but it seems like the producers try to do that a lot. Also I think part of the reason Jaida won the makeover was that she (if I remember right) made the costumes she and her partner wore there and didn’t bring anything, imo she was completely deserving of that win (and all of them for that matter) and just proved her talent :)
I would say the reason why makeover episode is a double shantay is just simply because they are doing it on their superfans. Imagine being the big fan of the show, get the chance to be a cast for a day, then found out that you caused the queen who made you over got eliminated. How sad will that be? Maybe Jackie Cox should be eliminated here, but at least think about those fans and how they will feel. I already knew when they say they bring in supetfans, and there isn't a double shantay in the season yet, that this episode will have no elimination.
If I’m honest, I feel that the makeover episode was always going to be a double shantay because fans were there. No matter who ended up in the bottom two I feel they’d keep both.
For me personally I understand how Jackie didn’t win a challenge and how she had been in the bottom 2 twice before But I think she deserved a top 3/4 spot, personally I think she won the lip sync against crystal and gave more energy. That’s just my opinion
Now while I feel that production may have kept Jackie on the show for a narrative that the show is accepting more diverse representations to fully tell their stories, just enough to where they can no longer justify the queen being there based on performance....I still don’t see her, the queen as favored. If you notice when she left, she didn’t get to leave a mirror message or give a final little monologue like every other queen who leaves gets to have. She just left the stage, and the episode ended. Now before anyone comes for me pointing out that there is no point in leaving a mirror message since the girls won’t be revisiting the werkroom for another episode, please remember that Vanjie got to leave one on Season 11. Same format, she was eliminated so the top four could move forward to the finale, but she got her final moments on camera. It really felt like they just didn’t care about Jackie anymore once she was eliminated and it was pretty shocking to see. Don’t know if anyone else noticed this, but personally when I pointed this out on Reddit, someone else also noted that the judges just didn’t really care.
I’d also like to argue that Crystal and Heidi were mistreated in some ways: Both of them were told to change their makeup, which yeah did benefit them but Crystal’s look is a staple look for her. Heidi was robbed of that win in the Biggest Losers episode, while Crystal was robbed of winning the makeover episode (I love Jaida, but I’m tired of the glamorous makeovers). Heidi was further told to change her name in each episode which yeah was a joke, but she doesn’t need to. Then in the final 5, Crystal was unfairly put into the bottom 2 “because of track record” over Sherry even though Sherry got worse critiques and track record shouldn’t matter.
Gigi admitted that she didn't have time to complete the costume. She said she had spent so much time sewing the dress she wouldn't have time to complete her original plan which was to completely cover the dress in those fabric balls. That's why the top of the dress looked need and the rest just had random balls everywhere. It just looked awful.
i liked crystal on the season a lot and i thought the mullet jokes were so annoying and i hated that she started to play into it since she knew ru loved it . safe move but disappointing ALSO the jeff goldbloom thing....was so frustrating. why are u going to be angry with someone for asking about a religion that is so misrepresented in the states? jackie was able to give some new perspective to a GIANT audience...twitter needs to chill.
Also. Almost all of Gigi’s wins could have been easily someone else’s win. When Jaida won a challenge it was NO QUESTION. Of course the very FIRST time she messes up in a challenge she has to lipsync for her life (not the case with Gigi or crystal). It just makes me so mad when people try to discredit her win. I honestly feel like ru saw a TRUE drag superstar in Jaida and he had no choice but to crown.

There’s not enough queens who have this sort of label yet to really call this a pattern, but has anyone noticed that all of the “weeby” queens went home first? Dahlia, Sakura, and Nicky have said that they’re inspired by anime and Japan, and they were literally the first 3 out. I know there’s outside factors that contributed to their elimination, but it just seems weirdly coincidental that they were the first ones booted off. As a weeb who's into drag race, I don't know if this is a coincidence but it sucks cause it's amazing to see queens who like the same things you like. At least we got to see Bob as Salior Moon on Legendary and Mo Heart as Luna on UkvsTW. I think Bosco referenced dragon ball in one of her runways too. Even then though these are specific references rather than general Japanese street fashion (everything Rock M Sakura wears will live in my brain rent free)

Interestingly I think Jackie was both favoured and mistreated, it was a really interesting case, they kept her round for diversity but they didn't want her as an actual competitor so some of the challenges she could've won (world's worst, snatch game, stand up) went to other queen's. She was literally just there for diversity

I mean in the recent ball challenges, queens are allowed to use fabrics from the fabric wall, so Gigi didn’t unfairly win the ball challenge imo. And no, I am not a Gigi Stan and I think she was heavily favored in the season otherwise

Honestly when Gigi said her thing about “privilege” and other drama I knew that was going to cost her the crown I knew from day one see her that they were definitely going to give her the crown. Jaida won because she is an amazing competitor and absolutely killed the runways and challenges, was such a nice person to everyone, and still managed to hold her own in a lip synch so anyone who says that she won just because of blm, should rewatch the season and see why Gigi and crystal didn’t win

Tbh in the ball episode when Gigi won I was confused. I was a Gigi stan at the time. I thought that either Jaida (who I think should have won) or Nicky (and maybe even crystal) should have won. I thought her dress was kinda basic. But her other two looks were killer. But then so we're Jaida's and Nicki's. Btw this is all my opinion. So if you have another opinion that's great this is mine.

For S10, S11, S12 and now AS5, the winner has been the queen with the most consistent *overall* collection of 3 looks and not about having the best individual look - I don't like Gigi's Balls look but overall her and Jaida had by far the most consistency across 3 looks so either deserved to win

Gigi’s button look was a play on the theme. There’s so many instances where a queen interprets the theme. Gigi’s button look was AMAZING and so well put together it GENUINELY didn’t need bows.
I'm from Turkey which is a country mostly muslim, we are not like Iran or Arabia really but for me seeing Jackie at my screen every week was a really different thing. It made me believe we are the same level with other countrys. But I still don't want to Jackie favoried. It gives a bad show to me. When it comes to Gigi she started great. She was really likeable, every challenge she wins was deserved. She was best at Snatch Game with Jackie but Gigi's robot was a bolt move unlike Jackie who doing a already a big personalty. Than she started being unlikeable and saved a lot by judges. I'm not going to talk about Crystal we all love her but she was would be a early out without her mullet. And we want Heros vs Villains part 3 and maybe season 12 without favoritism videos
I will say, the reason I say Jan won over Gigi in ‘that’ challenge, Jan actually had singing chops and showed them off, and I do believe it should have been taken into consideration as it was a rusical challenge. It shouldn’t be the only reason a queen wins, but it should give them a leg up when it is close in terms of pretty much everything else.

I really don't understand the debate about the Ball looks. People seem not to be okay with glueing balls on a selfmade dress but also you shouldn't glue balls on a corset. Then what exactly should have been done? To me Gigi and Jaida had the best looks by far and either one of them could have been given that win. And sorry Jan, but for the Madonna episode it is the same. Gigi and Jaida were the best, but that is just my opinion. The makeover however was the biggest disappointment of the season for me being a Gigi fan. Girl gave us nothing in a look based challenge. I am not even complaining about the silhouette (I don't really see a problem with it) but it was the most boring look ever. Gigi winning the last episode is fair I think as she did best but the judging was weird because Jackie landed in the bottom despite getting only positive critiques. I get it's because of track record but I don't think Gigi got that win because of track record but becausd she performed best. Tl;dr. There was favouritism in this season and Jaida being not favored still won and that is the best thing that could have happened.
Totally agree. IMO, other than Snatch Game which should be a tie for Jackie and Gigi, Gigi totally deserved the other 3 wins. - Ball challenge: She made it from scratch and it fit her perfectly. People still judged her look just because they think the final look was basic lol - Madonna Rusical: I admit that Jan has such a beautiful voice and definitely slay that challenge, however, in the final performance it was Gigi that embodied Madonna the best. In the beginning she didn't want that part, she was assigned and still did it well so there was no reason to point her out because she had a great choreo with many back up dancers. Girl, she's just smart and delivered it well. Periodt. And dont forget Gigi also had a musical background too so the thing that they said her win was undeserving didn't make sense to me. - Drag Race Vegas Live: Lol her voice and choreo was clean and that's why she won that challenge. I am so happy that Jaida won 'cause I also admire her drag, her skills and the polishness to the perfection. But that people say about Gigi was kinda repetitive for me, I'm bored.

The editing for Jackie Vs. Heidi was not one sided. There were more laughs for Jackie, Ru shifted her gaze to Jackie once, and Heidi twice, and they deliberately focused on Michelle's Gilda Radner comment after the lip sync to say how well Jackie did. This was the tie of the season. Also Jackie was often the victim of the favoritism of Gigi, often taking her spot in the bottom 2. Widow had given up by the choices challenge, and Gigi was. A. Disaster. Gigi did a copyrighted character for snatch game to the point they weren't allowed to use the name "Sophia the Robot", which had generally not been allowed before. Jackie was the, "You're good, but you're not winning so we're not really gonna do anything with you" queen of the season.
I do not goddamn understand how people can watch that season, see any frame of Jaida on the runway, and think she was a 'diversity win'. This bitch could not have poured more into a look - like her goddamn body into those outfits - or painted her face in any way that beat the utter glamour and glitz she put on. I'm more confused by how Violet won her season than I am by the Beast Mode that Jaida brought to her win.

For me, Crystal is one of the most intelligent queens on the show, she saw that Rupaul was obsessed with her mullet / for her and took advantage of it whenever she could (but I still think she received a favoritism)

That’s a fair point, but the counter being that the reason why people feel that way is the constant low placements she had. Performance in worlds worst was bad, etc etc. Also, obviously people are going to have favourites, but you cannot deny that if they actually judged on performance, Gigi would have likely gone home as early or earlier than Jan.

@@cyberpunkfashionblyawesome the show has always had a level of favouritism, but when it comes to the winner the show usually crown whoever is more popular and deserves it at the same time, like Sasha who was consistently on top, never lip synced and practically has the most iconic lip sync moment in the show, Or Aquaria who the crowd Ate up because she grew within the show and did great despite the fact the show was pushing eureka, this is more of a VH1 thing since when the show was with Logo they only crowned whoever did the absolute best and had the most challenge wins (Bianca, Bob, Tyra, Jinkx,) or whoever fit the criteria of never lip syncing twice and be a good representation (Bebe, Violet)

idk for me personally jackie was kept around for diversities sake but was never granted wins when she deserved them (IMO she should have won snatch game and the stand up challenge). She falls into such a weird zone where the producers 100% wanted her around for diversity points but they didn’t want her to win anything and it seems super insidious to me. Using a queen from a Muslim family and of Persian background as a marketing tool but never letting her truely succeed. Also, I think the criticism about her using her ethnicity during the challenges is kinda mute because she wasn’t just like hey look at me I’m Persian, she did things with it (most of the time..... choices 2020 *cough*), the magic carpet merkins had a strong theme and concept behind it and was much more about 60s advertisements and editing with inspiration drawn from her culture: we don’t shame Latinx queens for that, and we shouldn’t for middle-eastern queens either.
Gigi also always wore the same silhouette on the runway, being a long sleeved top/tailored coat with something short underneath. Never critiqued for it, when vanjie on s11 was always being confronted on wearing the same silhouette.

You ascribe the favouritism of Crystal to the fact RuPaul was obsessed with her mullet and she used this obsession to her advantage. You also lament that this is somehow disappointing as she is therefore reduced to a mullet and to a snippet of a song. I disagree.
In the Finale episode, Ru tells her that she made it to the finale ´because she listened´ and then we see Ross saying that she had a pivot where she really went all in on her weird, which is how you win the competition. I remember watching this and feeling as I had never agreed more with the judges.
Crystal entered the werk room as a clown, which is basically a statement on who she is. In episode 3 her look is heavily criticised, mostly in respect to her make up, which is called muddy and clowny. In the following episodes she significantly changes her make up according to what she was told, and the judges are enthusiastic. I remember watching her and thinking I had never seen a queen applying so well the instructions she was given, at the same time remaining true to who she was.
From episode 10, having decided that she was done with the assignment, she goes back to her ´clown´ face in full mode, weird as never before, and she literally slays. I was amazed: an evolution that makes her one of the most powerful queens I have ever seen on the show. This is what RuPaul and Ross were referring to in the Finale, certainly not her mullet.
Was she favoured? Probably, but to me not to the extent you describe. Totally deserved that top 3 placement to me. Most importantly, I am sure for me and many others she is not just a mullet and a snippet, but an amazing, unique and talented drag queen.
You cannot deny that season 12 was such a great season. Despite a series of unfortunate events, this was still one of the best seasons mainly because there is no filler queen this season and everyone is so memorable.
It's so ironic how 4 contestants out of the Top 5 were somewhat favored minus the actual winner of the season. We stan Jaida and the bitch deserves nothing less than that.
On a side note; I agree with your arguments on Jackie's only(?) storyline this season. It really felt like we couldn't not forget a minute where she came from and she had to use it all the times to stay on the judges eyes. With that said, it's not completely on her to blame since we know that behind the scenes they ask and articulate the queens to take from them what they are insterested in showing.
Totally right with your side note, they have a confessional producer who tells them what they want to hear from them in that space. Jackie's storyline was overproduced, so was Shea's traumatic thing with Sasha and her losses in AS5.

I think what cost her the win was the commitment to the character. There were some subtle moments where she's trying not to break into laughter before/while giving the answer (e.g. the poem) whereas Shea was able to bring some funny moments and commit to portraying Flavor Flav. And the judges clearly appreciated Shea's runway more.
Without favoritism, I feel like Gigi would still make it far so it hurts to see her being favorited because she is still good but her achievements are undeserving. (I think she won snatch game tho)

I think widow von du was mistreated and shunned alot on the show, in challenges such as gays anatomy, the ball ball, madonna rusical etc because they diddnt want another silky nutmeg ganache. And the hate the fans gave to the show because of it.
Aside from there physical similarities they were also quite confident, outspoken, kept it real, and stood up for themselves aswell as call out other queens. The only drastic difference is that widow von du was loved and silky was not.
And if they had too lip sync for their life today, they were ready to doooo (or von du) sooo.
I have to disagree with you on the Madonna Rusical challenge (and I say this cause I try to stay neutral) because even though she SLAYED the challenge her runway look was a little basic compared to others(including Gigi's).The only reason why I say that Gigi's could have not been considered basic was because she did blonde Michelle Visage which is something none of the other queens thought of. Which is why she won the challenge. Though in Gays Anatomy Widow was Robbed 😭😭😭... but at least she was one of the tops
idk I felt Silky was portrayed as just loud as her personality. We didn't see many layers to her and she became two dimensional and unlikable on the show because of it. Widow was portrayed with having struggles and had an overall more humanising storyline to her.

So much of Gigi’s favouritism in regards to her looks can be explained away by “she’s skinny so it looks good”
I agree with most of the Gigi stuff except for when you criticised her ball look. It’s not common for queens to take the easy way out and just glue random crap to a corset and call it a look, there are times where this has been executed well such as Jaida and Nicky but other times it just turns out really bad such as Baga chips on DRUK. I believe that the judges appreciated Gigi’s craftsmanship because she made a look completely out from scratch while still being very Gigi in the fit and styling.

I completely agree - I acknowledge that she didn’t completely fulfil the runway look for buttons and bows but the ball look definitely deserved to win. She made a look that definitely fitted the category which was balls the wall eleganza and Gigi’s was covered stylistically in balls. Sure, it wasn’t covered in balls but that wouldn’t have been eleganza.
that’s why so many people thought gigi was going to win S12 because she was so favorited and won many challenges. she is stunning (as all the other queens are) but no queen should really be favored at all, as it ruins the fairness of the race.

About the double shantay, I chalk it up to the type of episode it was: making over SUPER-FANS. I personally wasn't shocked that there was a double save that episode because, throughout all of the reality tv that I watch, it happens a lot with super-fan episodes. Project Runway often has no elimination or uses the one save of the season on super-fan or "real-sized women" episodes BECAUSE of the involvement of the super-fans and the overall atmosphere of the episode. Producers want these kinds of episodes to be a complete celebration of the show, super positive and uplifting. I think no matter who ended up in the Bottom 2, there would've been a double save regardless.

Jaida literally wore a basketball jersey and made it look absolutely stunning. She did just as well as Gigi in the competition serving BETTER runways in almost every episode. I'm Persian (from the same country as Jackie) and yes you are absolutely right. Jackie was only using her identity and heritage to keep herself on the show. Furthermore she played the "representation" card. Also, Jaida 100% deserved to win. Some fans don't understand that regular seasons are different from hall of fame and all stars. There are several black queens who won the regular seasons (the first 3 winners for instance) but on All Stars, the show lacked diversity so they had to bring Shea and Monét.

I do believe that Jackie was favored, but not as much as Crystal and, mainly, Gigi. That's just because Crystal won the challenge that Jackie should've won, and Gigi because of all you pointed out. Still think that Jan should've won the Rusical tho.

The thing about the one woman show is do you remember what Jackie originally approached the judges with? It was pretty bad material so she was advised to go with something she knows, her family, something personal and make it funny. Crystal didn't even show off any material, she kinda stood there and panicked and they had no advise to give her, (as far as I remember). You can say Gigi was favored, we all know she was. But Jackie and Crystal? I don't think so. They grew and listened to critiques. If everything was all about performance in challenges we would have missed out on some good queens, I think personality is good for America's Drag Superstar to have in my opinion

This season was one of the best seasons of Drag Race ever. We can still talk about things that happened.
With regards to advice, not all contestants get advice; Widow and Nicky Doll both said they were just told what was wrong but not how to rectify. So that’s why they were confused and visibly upset as they’d done their best but still wasn’t enough cause they didn’t know what they needed to adjust to please the judges. And drag race isn’t about who’s the most talented (they’re all talented enough to get on the show), it’s about how well you can adjust to the task at hand.
The fact that Gigi won the top 5 episode when last season didn’t have an episode winner screams rule change for gigi’s win

I saw this post on Instagram about how many of the top 4 (especially recently) typically try to fill a criteria, the white fashion queen, the black pageant queen, the big girl and the lovable, quirky weirdo. This seems pretty accurate but we shouldn’t label queens into one box and top 4 queens are always talented but it seems like the producers try to do that a lot. Also I think part of the reason Jaida won the makeover was that she (if I remember right) made the costumes she and her partner wore there and didn’t bring anything, imo she was completely deserving of that win (and all of them for that matter) and just proved her talent :)
I would say the reason why makeover episode is a double shantay is just simply because they are doing it on their superfans. Imagine being the big fan of the show, get the chance to be a cast for a day, then found out that you caused the queen who made you over got eliminated. How sad will that be?
Maybe Jackie Cox should be eliminated here, but at least think about those fans and how they will feel. I already knew when they say they bring in supetfans, and there isn't a double shantay in the season yet, that this episode will have no elimination.

Now while I feel that production may have kept Jackie on the show for a narrative that the show is accepting more diverse representations to fully tell their stories, just enough to where they can no longer justify the queen being there based on performance....I still don’t see her, the queen as favored. If you notice when she left, she didn’t get to leave a mirror message or give a final little monologue like every other queen who leaves gets to have. She just left the stage, and the episode ended. Now before anyone comes for me pointing out that there is no point in leaving a mirror message since the girls won’t be revisiting the werkroom for another episode, please remember that Vanjie got to leave one on Season 11. Same format, she was eliminated so the top four could move forward to the finale, but she got her final moments on camera. It really felt like they just didn’t care about Jackie anymore once she was eliminated and it was pretty shocking to see. Don’t know if anyone else noticed this, but personally when I pointed this out on Reddit, someone else also noted that the judges just didn’t really care.
I’d also like to argue that Crystal and Heidi were mistreated in some ways:
Both of them were told to change their makeup, which yeah did benefit them but Crystal’s look is a staple look for her.
Heidi was robbed of that win in the Biggest Losers episode, while Crystal was robbed of winning the makeover episode (I love Jaida, but I’m tired of the glamorous makeovers).
Heidi was further told to change her name in each episode which yeah was a joke, but she doesn’t need to.
Then in the final 5, Crystal was unfairly put into the bottom 2 “because of track record” over Sherry even though Sherry got worse critiques and track record shouldn’t matter.
Gigi admitted that she didn't have time to complete the costume. She said she had spent so much time sewing the dress she wouldn't have time to complete her original plan which was to completely cover the dress in those fabric balls. That's why the top of the dress looked need and the rest just had random balls everywhere. It just looked awful.
If jaida had made her own garment instead of putting the white balls on the corset, she would've won the ball. She won anyways who cares stan jaida.

There’s not enough queens who have this sort of label yet to really call this a pattern, but has anyone noticed that all of the “weeby” queens went home first? Dahlia, Sakura, and Nicky have said that they’re inspired by anime and Japan, and they were literally the first 3 out. I know there’s outside factors that contributed to their elimination, but it just seems weirdly coincidental that they were the first ones booted off.

Even then though these are specific references rather than general Japanese street fashion (everything Rock M Sakura wears will live in my brain rent free)

For S10, S11, S12 and now AS5, the winner has been the queen with the most consistent *overall* collection of 3 looks and not about having the best individual look - I don't like Gigi's Balls look but overall her and Jaida had by far the most consistency across 3 looks so either deserved to win

I'm from Turkey which is a country mostly muslim, we are not like Iran or Arabia really but for me seeing Jackie at my screen every week was a really different thing. It made me believe we are the same level with other countrys. But I still don't want to Jackie favoried. It gives a bad show to me. When it comes to Gigi she started great. She was really likeable, every challenge she wins was deserved. She was best at Snatch Game with Jackie but Gigi's robot was a bolt move unlike Jackie who doing a already a big personalty. Than she started being unlikeable and saved a lot by judges. I'm not going to talk about Crystal we all love her but she was would be a early out without her mullet. A bit late but its really fascinating to see another turkish RPDR fan, makes me feel less alone in this hellhole of a country.
I will say, the reason I say Jan won over Gigi in ‘that’ challenge, Jan actually had singing chops and showed them off, and I do believe it should have been taken into consideration as it was a rusical challenge. It shouldn’t be the only reason a queen wins, but it should give them a leg up when it is close in terms of pretty much everything else.

- Madonna Rusical: I admit that Jan has such a beautiful voice and definitely slay that challenge, however, in the final performance it was Gigi that embodied Madonna the best. In the beginning she didn't want that part, she was assigned and still did it well so there was no reason to point her out because she had a great choreo with many back up dancers. Girl, she's just smart and delivered it well. Periodt. And dont forget Gigi also had a musical background too so the thing that they said her win was undeserving didn't make sense to me.

The editing for Jackie Vs. Heidi was not one sided. There were more laughs for Jackie, Ru shifted her gaze to Jackie once, and Heidi twice, and they deliberately focused on Michelle's Gilda Radner comment after the lip sync to say how well Jackie did. This was the tie of the season.
