    Many years ago I was at Harvard Law. I was friends with a girl who worked at Harvard Med admissions. One day I went to her office to meet her. She had to work late so I sat there and glanced at some of the applications. I was blown away by how accomplished they were. Not only brilliant but amazing research, awards, talents and abilities. Truly outstanding. Quite frankly it made most of my law school colleagues ( or at least me) pale by comparison. Many decades later one of my daughters attended Harvard Dental but their first two years they do the Med School curriculum plus some extra dental classes. She roomed with and is still friends with two of the Med School students both of whom were extraordinary.

      ***** My mom went to Harvard along with my great aunt. Both were incredibly smart took all honors classes 4.0 GPA every semester not to mention clubs and other things on the side. My grandfather went to Yale. But its a combination grades, where you rank. What high school did you come from how difficult was the curriculum. Also what program are you looking for. Harvard wants the best students but also wants people who give back to others and are leaders. My mom has published several books and co-authored a book at nineteen on grant writing. You have to sell yourself. Pick up a copy of Harvards' guide to admissions guide for undergraduates which shows a lot of the students who were admitted to Harvard. Yeah its crazy all high GPA honors classes, class presidents, some have worked published and so on. One of my friends went to GeorgeTown University for law. He triple majored and ran track. You gotta stand out academically and along with outside the classroom.

      NJ Moallim
      She didnt go to undergrad she went to the graduate school of education. I'm sure she could have gone for Harvard medical if she wanted but she wanted to teach chemistry she loved the idea of teaching and loved science. Obviously medical school demands are different then other schools within Harvard but still you have a pretty good chance if you can get into Harvard to begin with. Her GPA was 4.0 for undergrad plus ran clubs and so on.

How does that work and how does that play in to the "other America"--you know, the America where it doesn't matter WHAT you are, it matters WHO your family is? Somehow, I did not see that discussed--has legacy ended? That must be it.

      I am the first to admit I am not an authority and really don't know what percentage is involved. But I DO think it odd, that people that get in to a top tier college, via legacy, come out ahead of others in life, who in many cases, have performed better--but were not as connected. That's what I mean by "the other America", where performance is not the key, where blood ties, are.

Before my mom went onto Harvard for her Master in Education she had straight A's in all honors courses and ranked number six in her class at undergrad. I suppose if your family donates thousands of dollars. The thing is my mom is crazy smart yet anywhere she goes she has to back it up. If you went to Harvard people well expect the best from you. If you cant deliver then its obvious you got in based on connections. This is also Harvard medical not undergrad. I would imagine it would be much harder. Your better off getting in as a legacy at undergrad.

    Im 13. Im a straight A student. I would love to become a pediatric neurosurgeon. Go to Harvard Medical School and work at Mayo Clinic. I am aware you need to be involved in clubs that demonstrate some kind of leadership. Im always involved in my clubs but never get picked as a president or vice precident etc because I am not very popular. Correction. Not popular at all. And that stops me from getting elected as a leader in my school. What should I do?

    • @Tr2w
      @Tr2w 5 років тому +2

      In High School as a senior currently. Your middle school career doesn't matter at all, so don't worry about that. If you can't become the leader of a club you're in, create your own. Create multiple even. Also, since med school is after undergrad, they usually look at your college performance more than anything.
      As long as you can demonstrate throughout high school that you're highly academically proficient, and a well-rounded student in terms of extracurriculars, your odds of getting into a good school are high. Then it's just staying on top of college from there.

      Interact more with the people around you. Dont be an introvert, be both an introvert and an extrovert because your interaction with people will get you to those president positions. I'm talking from experience, interact with everyone no matter how rude they are, I'm not saying make friends with everyone. I'm saying talk to different people at times. Give them a brief knowledge about you. Dont tell them to much but interact so that they can describe your personality to others.

A Harvard undergraduate student has less than 5% chance of getting accepted and you are from Indian, which gives you less than 2% chance of getting accepted. I believe you can make it to Harvard if you really try your best and get at least 95% in all of the subjects in college. I got accepted into Neuroscience program at Harvard! It took me several tries but I finally made it. My mark in High school was 93% overall. I upgraded some of my classes and got a 98% as my overall average! Its actually 12 years of studying, but 16 years of studying is if you want to be a specialist. 8 years is only if you want to assist in hospitals but it's not a completed procedure. You first go to a medical program for 4 years then you go to medical school for 4 years then another 4 years is added to give you more information so that you're qualified enough.
