- With so many poor shots and swings resulting from a poor grip its important to ensure that you are holding the golf club correctly in your hand.
This common grip fault can ruin your game and i see it all the time on the lesson tee. The good news however, its fairly easy to fix and thats exactly what i show you in this short video.

I've watched several videos recently about grip change and most instructors have the same advice, but the way you explain exactly how put the club in your hand is the best I've ever seen! Really love the sharpie idea, I've already done it. I struggle mightily with my slice and also consistency on the course and I love that I have a guide now.

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO... I have battled a slice with my driver for years. I moved the grip to my fingers and just like that my slice was gone, now its a straight ball with a slight fade. A perfect golf shot. One of the few times I have ever made one change and saw results immediately... WOW

Was doing this and couldn’t work out what was wrong. Kept changing my grip, fingers everywhere. And club champ were coming up last weekend - did some searches and found a great vid from Rick! What helped me with this video. Is I did my back swing and paused at the top. Then took my left hand off and then regrip. Really helped me feel the difference. Thank you

Well, for fade players (like I used to be ) this is valuable info!! Thank you for sharing. Golf swing is put together of 'bits and pieces'. All need to fit well together. ✌️. And when fix one thing... Then need the fix the next one...

Hi Chris, is the thumb of the left hand in line with the shaft? Great video. I was told by a friend to try to see more knuckles on left hand but very mixed results; your method seems more repeatable and makes sense 👍

Playing a round yesterday after a long time out of the game and 8 holes in a row driver was a slice so made the next shot a chip back onto the fairway each time. Thanks for sharing tips

Great question and unfortunately no easy answer. I think comfort is the number one factor, ensure your hands are comfortable and it may be a case of trying out a few to find what suits.
@chrisryangolf do you recommend the same grip for iron and wedges shots? Also whats your opinion on bottom hand's thumb placed on the grip vs on the index finger?

I've never left a comment on any golf training video. I applied this grip change as I was struggling with a a fade which was eating at my yardage and a lot of times an outright slice! I literally gained approx 15yds on every club including my driver and went from a high lofty fade to a penetrating straight to slight draw on every swing! Solid tips and I recommend everyone try this if you're struggling with fade/slice. Thank you!

Hi Chris, haven't played for a few weeks, and I'm definitely a high slicer (very much like your first shot, but left handed) I'm playing tomorrow and going to give your grip tip a try. Hopefully it will work as consistency is killing my scores. Let's see how this goes.

@@toonlad4091 tbh worse 9 holes and slice was even worse par 36.. shot 61 about 7lost balls. Did settle down back 9 although still a slice not as bad.. par 36 shot 38 (2x birdies) so something worked but need to keep practicing.. could do with proper tuition

Interesting tip! I was always aware that the grip needs to be in the base of the fingers but the subtle difference of having the grip placed slightly higher in the index finger has a different feel. Keen to try it out. Cheers Chris

Chris, on the lead hand, how should the thumb be situated beyond simply being on the trail side of the grip, ie the left hand "V" pointed towards the right shoulder? I know on the trail hand, the right thumb should be close to the base of the index finger to create support (right hand V) for the club in the backswing and delivering power in the downswing. But I'm not 100% sure about the lead hand's thumb V...

Good video. I think my issue with driver is I don’t release the club and follow through. It results in some push shots that are horribly miles right. Sometimes over the next hole.
I start my grip the way you say is proper but maybe my grip strength is lacking or maybe even squeezing too much causes the club to shift to my palm life line mid swing. Thoughts on how to combat that? Smaller/larger grips?
This is exactly what my local pro has thought me to to & I do swing from in to out now.
The problem now is everything goes too far left. How do I correct that while keeping this grip?
Hey Chris, Does that mean the v shape between the thumb and forefinger will automatically point toward the right shoulder? Or do you have to make another adjustment for that position?
This is a definite issue for me with driver and irons. I shoot in the 80’s low 90’s yet have lately been pushing clubs to the right.

I could be wrong but I do not recall him discussing how to place the trail hand on the club at any time during this video only the lead hand. Is placement of the trail hand in a separate video?
Idk man being the left hand under more bring the right have over more ? Do both one or the other neither to fix a slice? What’s the recommendation.
Personally an ice cold 6-7 beers along the way cures my caring if I slice or not

I find it difficult to get my left-hand grip in my fingers like you show. Could it be that my grips are too large? I had my clubs regripped and accidentally went with mid-size instead of standard. I wear a medium (or medium cadet) glove as I don't have long fingers. Would you advise me to regrip to standard?
Do you have any advice for players who use Baseboll grips?
