finally, after years of complaints, yamaha puts a proper sequencer on their workstation/synths, like they did before. i wish they fire the people who refused to have it om the montage and modx at launch. next time yamaha listen to your customers who actually use these daily above the marketing folks. you lost thosands of sales being stubborn and not giving users a proper sequencer earlier. your top synth customers do not want to be tied to a computer or ipad or cubase, they want a true all in one.
Dom knows this synth so well! His mastery of the Montage FM engine is jaw dropping. I wish I could download all his Montage knowledge directly into my brain without the tedious learning curve. I'm an analog guy, and my Montage has proven to be a digital mystery wrapped in an enigma. There's so much to learn here. Maybe if I watch enough of these videos, it will all rub off on me?
OS v3 downloaded and installed! This update DOES wipe out all user data, so be sure to do a backup first. Love this update but I'd still like to see another synth engine added one day :) This awesome synth keeps getting better!!!

Please make sure that you have saved all User data to a USB flash drive before performing this update." It's not a big deal to backup user data to a USB flash drive or computer and should be done anyway!
@@RayyMusik I'd say the Montage is very state-of -the-art. At 52 years old now, I remember quite well when I was younger having to open up my Solton Programmer 24 to swap out an EPROM chip to update the OS... (and frequently as there were many bugs and subsequent updates)
This saves yamaha lots of $$$$money on a full redesign, if they add user sampling in a year or two, they can go ten years without a redesign or price cut.
Thanks for covering this better than Yamaha did. Unfortunately on their part, the hype exceeded the announcements. But on the plus side, you got a trip to Tokyo which is a busy, wild, and fun place to visit!
Warning: Yamaha hid the fact that the mini filter is not part of the synthesis engine. It is only available as an FX and therefore it is NOT modulateable with an envelope. But you can make it self oscillate by twiddling the big blue super knob. Oh well.
or you can modulate/automate it with a motion sequence lane, wich can act as a sort of fancy user envelope/lfo, and enhance it further with the (user drawable) curve type(and get crazy weird results), in the control assign screen, it makes up for the fact that the mini filter is in the effect section...it's strange that they did not just implement it in the normal filter section, as in the filter menu there are about 8 or 9 empty spaces left.
now they just need to add aftertouch (modx)/breath control sounds next year that are aftertouch and breath controlled. montage and modx were made for expressive aftertouch-breath controlled sounds, can you even imagine how great they would be to play and sound and feel? for the next update though user sampling on the machine alone is the number one request.
DON, please do more yamaha montage tutorials!!! They are soooo much needed, and it's sooo nice to see your amazing skillset and to feel your real passion! PLEASE!!!

That pattern sequencer featured already on the first Motif. It was way ahead of its time,. The sequencer is conceptually similar to Ableton Live. Yamaha dropped it in the Montage and now they seem to re-introduce it with the OS update because of popular demand. This is good news in case I need to replace my XF some day.
Have the fantom and love it but honestly white montage is on the way. They seem to offer a different enough sound scape to do so and I am excited to have the contrast of the two

Fundemental Roast hahah they will they will add a VST editor soon. The good thing about a Montage it’s that it’s updatable. So they can make some improvements for sure.
oh man they would have loyalty for life if they did, and they should because the sounds can be used on the new synths. what i want is a montage/modx collection for the motif xf, especially sounds with fm that can be controlled by the controllers and pedals.
I have a modx 7 , very tough to know in detail , got it , but scene and rhythm should be in different switched like 3 intros , 4 patterns, 3 ending , very confusing, I have a psr sx 900 also it's the best to me personally , lot of variations and very easy to use , inbuilt speakers , if it had more faders and 8 knobs , it will be the best synth ever , modx or montage is mainly for sound engineering people , best sounds but , overall , we want to perform for home or small occasions which has to be user friendly.
Yamaha is late providing the sequencer man but still thanks for the effort....... Roland new Fantom sequencer already bad ass....... and easy and so simple to work. Already order the Fantom.

Now if only they could write Fantom on this wonderful sounding Montage (which is the only workstation to really bend my ear from my Kronos at all), then I’d be all over a “Fantom” too. :) seriously, why does the Roland just sound so thin and like a few generations behind on many of its sounds? I love its design otherwise. Just not convinced on sounds. Whereas listening to this ‘sells’ me.
thomas cook that is a good demo though thanks for sharing, the sounds on the outdo song were great... I imagine some of this is due to synthesized sounds vs sampled. I just don’t know how good the sampled libraries are on Roland. Even in the old days they sounds a bit flat/phony. Also why the heck didn’t they include all the Aira engines, like ACB for drums and Tb-3 emulation? Now that would have made sense and been a killer flagship!
@@boothbuster I had a lil demo and ordered the Fantom coz also heard many demo on UA-cam and other social site and I liked the sounds and other new stuff. If I am unhappy after I give a try on it. I will surely returned it. I loved the sequencer, I can connect extermal gears, Daw control mode as well and simultaneously I can use internal fantom soundsalso , plus hammer keys which is on Roland 2000 with after touch, modeless concept, ease of use, not much menu diving for small things, hands on control for sythn and so much more.... and plus roland said they will more feature to it. So why not to give try to it and I must share the sounds I heard in many demo on youtube and other site for example drums groove and synth and bass lines etc they match very close to the mainstream and underground music and thats very important for me.

Rayy‘s Musikladen guys you would have to buy a Montage 8 I’m sorry but it is what it is. It’s heavy cause it’s durable built like a tank. Parts are easily replaceable if you mess up the chassis like a bum or something or a hole in the metal by dropping it you can replace it easily but with the modx it isn’t replaceable but you could buy another modx cause it’s that cheap
@@tuneunleashed it definitely "is not what it is". Between MODX and Montage, MODX is the better instrument for most live gigs: It's lighter, more compact and has the same sound. It is the modern DX7. They definitely can (and should, imho) provide an almost as compact instrument with better DACs and a higher price point. As it is, you really don't have any reason to buy the montage8. You buy a MODX6 and a modx8 for almost the same amount of money.

Pure Analog Circuit which the MODX doesn’t have 8 Faders it’s basically the MODX on steroids, more layers on the Montage Than the MODX better action keys it feels better to play and I do take the montage to gigs with a case that has wheels on them. I take it to the bus, the train the car and looks just like new till this day it’s not that hard lol. That’s If you have a case that has wheels on them. But you have a point MODX is easier to install but if you want also a light board with good action go for a Nord Stage 3 or go for a Yamaha CP 88 or 73 its nice. Yes the montage and modx are the exact same sounds but not the exact same outputs

Very disappointing update for live players. 9:20 about the effects: "Can you feed audio in via USB?" - "You can do it using the inputs." The true message is: You can't do it with USB audio. The really interesting things for keyboard players in a band comes after 14:22.
No, its harmonic overtones scrolling through. Analogue does this too. If you want stepping, try the Roland/SE boutique. Resonance steps like a pig, sounds as bad as my A-Station, and that's 20 years old (still great though)
Big disappointment from Yamaha. They haven't listened at all to the ideascale. When will they make a new analog CS-80 reissue. We were all waiting for this, and they come up with a color update and some firmware updates. They are going back to the 90's with this one! I mean, I appreciate his enthusiast in 'mimicking' a CS-80 or analog synth, but this is not what musicians want these days.

It did, if you but _/*BASIC*/_ in bold, italic and upper-case and then underscore it.

You have 5 stereo channels on the USB host connection to the computer and you can play .wav files from a usb flash drive. What else do you need?

Not many people would be able to afford a reissue CS80 so you will never see that happen. Try Arturia VST it sounds awesome.
