  • Situated in the heart of the Limestone Coast, second largest town in South Australia, Mount Gambier or “Gamby” (as the locals call it) is famous for natural wonders, some of which you’ll find in town and some just outside of it. Do the Blue Lake and the Little Blue Lake live up to expectations?

The colour of the lake is lovely, breathtaking, really. I have not heard of it! Thank you for the video!

The Little Blue Lake in Mount Gambier has been turning green instead of its usual blue because of algae, tiny plants that thrive in water with lots of nutrients. Recently, increased runoff from fertilisers used in nearby farms has been washing into the lake, providing these nutrients. This extra food causes the algae to grow more than usual, making the water appear green. It’s similar to how a garden gets overrun with weeds if you add too much fertiliser.
