Ricky Gervais was brilliant. But all the Hollywood stars frowning & looking uncomfortable was priceless. Good vid. 👍
And they missed a great opportunity to really prove that they are who they say they are. They could have reacted differently and looked good. The exception was Jodie Foster.
Especially Gwyneth's reaction.

I've watched this channel for a while now, and I have to say this couple are more British than many people in this country. They love British culture and invest a lot of time and effort into learning about British traditions, values and history. They're a credit to the UK.

To be fair to Tom Hanks, he was the recipient on the night of the Cecil B DeMille achievement award, meaning he must have had a speech that lasted a little longer than a thank you to his agent and his god planned.

@@norsefury74 Gervais is older than Canada as a last name dude... Canada was colonized by the British and the British have been invaded and conquered so many times in history that Ricky could be from most countries in Europe. Or he could be Canadian... don't assume.

Ricky smashed it. Destroyed woke culture in 10 minutes. That monologue is the stuff of legend and will never be forgotten. Hollywood's days are numbered unless they change their tune fast.
Yet the Hollywood Elite didn't seem to get it. They didn't know how to react, and they reacted badly for the most part. The exception was Jodie Foster! She took it great when he focused on her and played it off perfectly. So cool she was.
Yes considering the current political climate within hollywood, everyone there was stiff as a board for fear they might upset someone important should they crack a smile. The tension in that room was visibly palpable
i think the best part of what he said about taking their award quickly and getting their quickfire acceptance over with was that afterwards plenty still came up to their political soapbox and carried on regardless kinda proving how shallow they are. They are meant to be there to take awards for the art and their performances not to showboat for political/personal reasons.
What ''good causes'' it's a lovey pat your self on the back and get an award night, that should be the only reason they are there, they shouldn't be talking about things they know nothing about just to virtue signal for points, this was the whole point of the monologue.Arquette and Michelle Williams were pathetic and the Australia climate change part blaming global warning was false seeing as bush fires were started by pyromaniacs.

@Caster Gil Humour is subjective. There is no "this country's comedians are better than that country's". There is no right or wrong answer. It's opinion based, not fact based. Sure, you can argue in favour of your opinion if you want, but it's pointless; you're not going to convince anyone else to change theirs.
This is just normal British sense of humour. .unfortunately the new comedians these days are afraid to say what they really think unless they are slagging off trump or brexit...well done Ricky, keep saying what you think!

"taking the piss" or "taking the piss out of someone/something" a cornerstone of british psyche. miss it or misunderstand it and you might as well be trying to have conversations with lamp-posts for all the good it'll do you....
Taking the piss is an accepted way of testing someone's mettle. How solid are they, how flakey? We don't do 'the big I am,' the 'smart arse,' it's the 'who the hell do you think you are' test. Put it along side cynicism, cool appraisal of the successful; contempt for self opinionated arrogance: our common sense and respect for fair play and you've got a working model of a True Brit.
If someone takes the piss out of you then you're cool.

British humour is a unique blend of self depreciation, understatement and brashness to eachother.

Well I'm a lefty and I think that it's great that he has loads of followers from "the other side." He's actually got both sides agreeing on some of these issues with is genius.

My favourite joke was about Weinstein and comparing their lack of observation with the film Birdbox, classic, he made that one a bit later on , great to see him calling out their hypocrisy, the only one I thought was unnecessary was the crude one about Judi Dench but the rest were spot on . Ps The Idea that Ricky Gervais is right wing is ridiculous, only the Snowflakes and supposed Liberals could believe that one.

Not really, this was Ricky just being Ricky and saying something controversial. Epstein's thing was scientists and other billionaires, and he didn't like to share his girls. That's not to say Hollywood isn't a den of evil shitheads, but Epstein didn't want anything to do with them. Ricky should have banged the Harvey Weinstein point home, especially against hypocrites like Meryl Streep.
You guys have been in the UK for how long and you have managed to get so some much wrong about our humour,political discourse and attitudes.
Interesting observations on US vs UK humour. Non-PC humour is great as long as it's mostly "punching up". Non-PC humour that mostly "punches down" just comes across as cruel to me.
PC "humour" isn't even funny. The best it can do is make weak jokes about Tories, and so often has to rescue itself in front of an audience with a tired and contrived reference to the Daily Mail. To call itself humour at all is close to a breach of the Trade Descriptions Act.....
Little tip. Stop talking over most of the Jokes. Especially when it’s not at all important

The acting in this video reminds me of Amber Heard...faked. If you put the reactions 1 seconds before the globe clip you may have come off as genuine. The woman's pre response gives the acting away.

Ricky seems to have hit the nail on the head. His humour is British. We both laugh at our own stupid demise and that of others choices . Its like a safety net on outlandish ideas. We bring everyone into the light, so they can see errors for themselves and correct destructive behavour, before in ruins lives. That's why we British laugh at each other in straight forward language, with humour added.
Felipe is a Latin, and having spent time in South America Latinos have a simliar sense of humour to us Brits.

Two of my friends called me and told to go on You-Tube to see Ricky Gervais's opening on the golden globes. He was amazing, didn't hold back, was right on point, put them in their place and spoke the truth. Due to the liberal democratic socialist propaganda media I cancelled Cable and I only buy a newspaper once a month to line my bird cages. Ricky was awesome, Way to go Ricky you told them what they didn't want to hear and it was GREAT. I could hear Greta now, "How dare you".

Read "Woke, a guide to social justice" by Titania McGrath. It is hilarious. She is a parody character and twitter activist, created by the comedian Andrew Doyle. Scary thing is that "she" was initially taken seriously by many, until her anonymity was blown.
Good stuff guys, but i think you're wrong about Gervais and his politics, I don't recall him coming out for anyone, certainly not Corbyn or Labour. He's very much a classical free speech liberal.
