It's such a nice gesture that every Christmas Eve, there is a wreath thrown from the train into the river in rememberance of the 151 people who died in this tragedy.

Unfortunately my Dad was in the rescue party at the Tangiwai Disaster and he was one of the first people there he was working at Kariori as a forestry worker and was something he never really talked about and once I was on a suburban train from Wellington and an older gentleman sat next told me his girlfriend was in the front carriage of the Tangiwai Disaster train very sad the last thing he remembered was when he kissed her good bye. I can't imagine what happened to her? very sad 😔
Actually the train station scene is not Taihape, it was actually the Otaki Railway Station but it was dressed up as Taihape exclusively for the movie Also the passing shot of KA 942 (disguised as 949) was filmed at Forest Lakes! The river shot i believe was taken at the Ohau River Bridge in Levin. And also the red cars are a mixture of Steam Incorporated and F&DSRS Cars If you think im just being stupid, I am actually a local from the area.
How about if the accident had Mike Stivic among the cadavers? For those of us unfamiliar with the name in question, he’s the son-in-law of Archie Bunker.

Yes indeed.
I know this song is for ships when they sink but it’s so much better with trains for some reason
But this train sinks into the river
That's what I was thinking

If only those blokes on the parliament in Wellington would just simply fix it so that the lahars from Mount Ruapehu flowed west instead of east.
RIP to the drivers
If only they had thrown it into reverse instead of just trying to stop altogether?
They should've repaired the bridge to prevent the disaster from happening but they chose not to and the disaster happened
I’m sad of tangiwai disaster:(
I love 949
It should have been built as a burner of coal instead of oil.
