Falconry: Training a peregrine falcon to catch a pigeon

In this falconry video I join my friend John Griggs in the field for a training flight with his peregrine falcon. This peregrine is very young and is learning how to fly and hunt. I explain how John has been using a drone to teach his falcon to circle higher and build flight muscles. In todays training flight, john lets a racing pigeon loose under his falcon as a step in teaching her how to hunt and dive at prey. Peregrine falcons are the fastest animal in the world, but being able to utilize and control that speed to catch prey takes a lot of practice. This flight is one of many steps in that process.
