- Episode 121 of "That Synth Show" @behringer CLONES THE ICONIC ITALIAN SYNTHESIZERS THE ELKA SYNTHEX:
www.vintagesyn... :
"The Synthex is a very lush sounding classic analog 8 voice synthesizer. Later versions implemented basic MIDI functions. It has 30 knobs, 6 sliders, 80 switches and a joystick. Powerful sounds with 2 oscillators per note, separate envelope generators, chorus and even a sequencer! The use of stable DCO's (digitally controlled analog oscillators) and oscillator cross modulation of Pulse Width and a multimode filter made it unique in its time."

the soft synth version of this synth didn't do it justice, looking forward to this one.
Me too what a beauty the original is
This sounds flippin gorgeous! ❤❣️❤❣️❤
I am definitely losing the GAS war 😂 but at least it's Behringer so hopefully I can save up and actually afford it! Thank you Samurai, and thank you too Uli for reincarnating this beauty. 💖
Man this one is special maybe the most special yet. 10,000$ used original
Whoaaa that sounds insane. I don't know a lot about this synth. I'll check out the front panel parameter knobs to get an 💡.
it's the dopest 80's movie sound EVER! now I know how they got those sounds back then
it has the 80's sound like nothing else. with the Lynn drum, it will be insane .
Totally insane combo right!!??
Great video! Very excited about the Synthex!
Me
Too hope its big and chunky
@@synthsamuraiproductions Exactly! I really hope they at least stay close to the original form factor and aesthetics. It's a beauty and looks comfortable to play/operate.
@NorbertVarga man i would love if it was super chunky, but id say probably same size as the UbXa for production purposes
I've noticed that all of Behringer's new reincarnations are following a pattern.
all poly reincarnations with 49-keys have 8 voices.
all poly reincarnations with 61-keys have 16 voices.
Looks like the Synthex has 61-keys, so I'm guessing there's going to be 16 voices.
(You could also start counting the chips on those boards and see if there's an even number of either 16 or 32 chips that would tell you right away)
Excellent observation my brother. We must look closer at the boards now.
Now we have cracked the behringer math for shipping. Pallets pic= 6 months. Now
We have also cracked the voice formula. Excellent work Dragon Samurai
16 voices would make sense, there 2 x completely independent synth 8 note poly layers on the original Synthex
I felt this one coming, was only dreaming about the Beri Synthex yesterday!
Dreams come true
I love this because I can get this but I hate that I'm running out of space....
I need to by an rv to expand
I have been waiting long enough for the Pro 16 I guess that is all I focused on and ignored the Synthex... (It will probably be years coming which is fine IMHO) Workflow is even better than the P5 which is about as good as it gets. Plus you get 2 way sync craziness (normally only modular for that), cross-mod, and a state variable including 1 AND 2 pole bandpass. (They have the 3320 clone so that is done) The oscillators are rectangle core running at 4MHz with glide/detune in front of an 8 bit digital conversion. That is where I think Behringer will primarily use the FPGA (optional bit rate conversion?) to derive the waveforms you actually hear. I believe it will be 8 voice 2 part like the upcoming UB-X, but only time will tell.
10:04 LOL 🤣🤣🤣
Your the best
Yeah, but they have sooooo much being promised before this synth.....when do they appear.
Lol 😂 the long tease game is for
Real
Lots of us hating on Beri as a cheap knock off. Then they keep recreating the rare and even doing stuff better than OG. I think if someone said to the CEO "hey make a new great synth" and instead I said "Let's be the guys that immortalize the best instead, nobody else is doing it or could..." I'd think that CEO is pretty dope.
I totally agree Uli Behringer is legend
The hate is mostly coming from synth snobs & Reddit losers who don't really care about making good music but care more about hoarding overpriced synths & bragging about it
More good news for people who can't afford no shoes
Yes indeed shoes over synths
Behringer is clon.... reincarnating synths like Ash Ketchum collects his Pokemons. Gotta catch em all !
Joke aside, sounds very good.
😂 i know brother its non stop. Every time i choose one they bring out another 😆
they don’t recruit, they assimilate 😂
Hahahahha
FPGAs just for the DCO counters seems a bit overkill, there would be more cost effective solutions. So more likely a digital emulation of the SYNTHEX. Not a VST in a box, but close.
Hmmm. Maybe.. but maybe hybrid. Look into the specs of the Elka Synthex. This might be a platform they will used for their upcoming mega hybrids.
@@synthsamuraiproductions don’t understand the claim that FPGA controlled DCOs somehow make the synth all digital, any more than the original was.
@@synthsamuraiproductions For a hybrid using FPGA doesn't bring any advantage.
Putting real analoge filters behind a FPGA based synth is a bit like hooking up a vintage phone dial to a smartphone. There might be a market for it, but doesn't really make sense.
@ezion67 hmmm interesting why are they doing it do u think? Must be a reason
@@synthsamuraiproductions There is another possibility. There are chips that are similar to FPGA but are mixed signal. That is analogue and digital circuits on one reconfigurable chip. Maybe that is what they are using? If so that would be pretty advanced stuff and offer a single hardware platform capable of running different real analogue synths just by changing the software.
fantastic news very strange synth!
Strange and amazing
Wth man , synthex pro16 and jt 16. Alot of piggybanks.
Need more work
Divorce time coming for some of us?! 😅
Samurai good, Samurai fine. Samurai talkin' 'bout synths all da time! I'm totally with you on this one Brother Samurai. I'm counting the days until I can get my hands on the LM Drum and one of these. I personally saw an original Synthex sell on Reverb a year or so ago for $10,000 (was the same person I bought my first Andromeda from, actually).
Linn drum and synthex is the perfect combo so
Awesome
Im
Sold
Already 😂
i saw one in my favourite shop in Geneva 25 years ago, as new for 2000.- the chorus on board is fantastic listen at 3mn56 without chorus and 4mn03 with chorus ! (arguably costed more than a behrger) congrats on the prononciation of JMJ ... that american accent is cool ... ouch gosh that sound ! ... gotta love Paulo synthmania !!!!!!!!! 80's gems by him
Man what a 💎 by Paulo at synthmania totally awesome showcase of the Linn Drum and the synthex together
When I saw the announcement, I thought I would need a bigger house because space in the small bedroom that serves as my studio is about at the limit, but then I realized getting taller keyboard stands would be much cheaper.
Hahahha the wall of synths grows large with every breath of Uli Behringer.
@@synthsamuraiproductions For sure. Have to build upwards (more) now.
The Elka Synthex is one of my favorite synthesizers of all time. If they pull this off, I will be purchasing my first Behringer synthesizer
You played one? Man that rosen sound demo blew my mind big time. Im in for sure if they pull if off looks and sounds wise
@@synthsamuraiproductions I have not, but I ingested every piece of content I could find on it, after Cherry Audio released the Elka-X. It really has a great character and sounds amazing!
@@VIRALBEATS360 Elka X is a fantastic plugin !
If they don't hire Paul Wiffen to do the preset sounds it will be a failure.
I’ve been waiting longer than Methuselah for their Linndrum I ain’t getting excited for anything this far out anymore
Hahahha so true but at least the tease is consistent 😂
This and the Polykobol (and with any luck a Matrix 12). That's where the piggy bank wants to go
No way, a top synth
Ohhhh yeahhh
Wow, so interesting... in a weird way, it reminds me of (if a prophet 5 and dx7 and Casio cz101 had a baby together). huh? :)
Yeah man its the ultimate of italian craftsmenship
FINALLY! This is the one I've been waiting for.
Oh yeah brother
TOTALLY!!
I want a reissued Synthex, but in blister pack format (like the Pro VS Mini)
Oooh the mega mini syhthex
For the artist if in US jar is a typical way to say it; if in France jar-A with long A at the end. For the FPGA zie-links. (You did say something like "how you pronounce" and my reputation as a nit-picky old man must be maintained) Some focus on the sound(s) of a synth and largely ignore workflow. Synths like Iridium and Hydrasynth with huge sound palettes are great, but there is a lot to be said for a focused sound set and WYSIWYG workflow with next to zero diving. IF they nail the P5 sound (which is as much about gain staging as voice architecture/components) I will open my wallet for a Pro 16.
Oh yeah!! I love what what i am hearing from you this a.m!!!
Using FPGAs for the DCOs is a great plan. I'd be damn interested in this one.
This is the most excited for me DCOs and then pair it with the Linn drum!!
I owned a Synthex for many years. Sold it 20 years ago and bought a JP8 for a few more dollars (that I still have). Totally different beast and I love them both. I have the Elka-X vst and it's very useful, good sounding etc but it's not a Synthex. Close but no cigarr. Maybe in the future when Paul Wiffen will release his original Synthex Presets for the Elka-X I might change my mind, but I doubt it. ;-) Funny, I presume the Behringer Synthex will cost about what I sold my Synthex for.
How did the original sound??
I like this more than the PB12 to be honest
Yeah me too this is the one i am saving for and ppgwave, and polykobol, and and and….
@@synthsamuraiproductions Heheheh, same, same 😁
I think I would prefer the PB12 but my wallet seems to lean more to the Synthex.
I got the cherry audio version of this right away when it came out. And if this synth sounds like that vst does, and if it's even approaching a reasonable price, I will sell basically every synth that I have to get one.
I think im in the same boat 🛥️ with you brother
You pronounced jmj's name correctly. " Zhahn meeshelle zharr "
Cross mod training pack!
Cha
Slue slue
I have the Cherry Audio vst of this and man it is a monster. You can split sounds which is just sick.🗽🛸♥️
Ill have to check it out love cherry audio
I'm definitely getting this when it eventually drops. I've been using the Cherry Audio VST version for a bit, which sounds great - I thought about buying a vintage one, if I ever hit the lottery, but Behr's version will suffice.
Man the rosen sound demo was amazing watch the whole thing the link 🔗 in description.
@@synthsamuraiproductions Oh, yeah - I have seen it before - great demo!
Wait a bit Syntex fans ! If you think , it's gonna be an analog DCO Synth , maybe you will be disapoit ? Last night , when i open a facebook , i red , it will be a FPGA board emulation !
Ooooooooh baby
It's a big ''sin'' to that so ! Not long time ago , i find out , Syntex was not made by using custom chips , and 99 o/o of them , could be found now days .
@crnogor very interesting behringer will use FPGA chips i think
It was Elka's answer to the Prophet 5.
Put it in unison mode and test for oscillator pop.
U play it?? Sounds great in demo
@@synthsamuraiproductions no, but it seems to be a problem that 'pops' up across the board (brands) in an intermittent fashion...and it would be nice if somebody would definitively address it.
f that dude play yer music.
Yeah man back to the music… damn trolls 🧌
Sounds amazing!
Figgin huge!!!
$1199.00?!!!
This one… hopefully!!! Maybe 1399$$
and just imagine how much money Behringer is investing to recreate this synths. just buying an original is insane, let alone the R&D.
Big time brother. I hope they spend a lot time nailing some presets
@@synthsamuraiproductions totally! like all those cop action movies from 83-86! those vids you were playing had that sound! pure gold! I've had and have a lot of synths, but the Synthex has THE sound!! I'm watching your vid again!!
@jameswooster4250 yeah man check
Out “rosen sound” for the full vid its in the description
Which great 80's polysynth they will not clone?
i like the use of FPGA for managing the digital part , very clever, parallel computing at high speed.
For me synthex = jmj and Rendez Vous.
PS : you spelled well Jean-Michel at the beginning . 😀
Behringer has the knife and cheese in his hand
Hahahhaha
The Elka sounds good...
Man i would love an original but ill settle for an Uli delight.
It‘s more fantastic with the magnificent drum Linns & Pops
Big time
I figured the Synthex would be next.
So what after the synthex ?? Hmm 🤔
@@synthsamuraiproductions Rhodes Chroma! 🤞🤞🤞
Looks cool
You gotta check the rosen sound full demo brother its amazing. The 🔗 in the description. The Linn Drum and synthex are amazing combo
sigh... * unzips * (wallet)
😂😂😂
Yup
💰 🪽
At least I won't have to sell a kidney, which I would have to do to buy an original! I bet JMJ will buy a Behringer!
