You can receive the state pension weekly, but you have to request this at the time of applying for your state pension payments. I much prefer receiving my state pension on a weekly basis, but that's my personal choice.
@PropositoFP It was only when I read an article about the State pension payments, ironically, just when I was applying for mine, from July, 2022, that I knew about weekly payments, for the form only mentions 4 weekly payments. There was a box in the form where you could request weekly payments. Just received my state pension letter on the increase from April, and confirms I'll still receive it weekly.
Im 66 in April.Im receiving one week payment then my full payment begins in May.I dont know what the point is in offering just one weeks payment?Id rather have the full payment. One week payment really doesnt touch the sides of my monthly expenses and will need to borrow some money.
I does seem a bit arbitrary as to why some people get a week and then regular payments, whilst others miss the "stub" payment and get 5 weeks initially, and then dropping down to the typical pension amount. It might be worth setting aside some money now to ease the financial pressure as your ramps up to full power in May. Good luck
Typical complications being set up for what you would think is a relative simple process. Why do they need proof of marriage? Payment is a personal pension women get the same if they have qualified.
I think may be to cover the scenario whereby a spouse can "inherit" some of any additional/SERPS/S2P state pensions that are in payment as part of the old "basic" state pension (which was replaced by the new flat rate state pension on 06/04/2016). This would apply if one partner was in receipt of the basic state pension before 06/04/2016 and their spouse was claiming their flat rate state pension (or deferred basic state pension) now.
What's the Jimmy App? Can you please advise?
It's GYMIAP - get your money into a pension. Apologies for the confusion
Thanks, that was very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!

I wasn't aware that weekly was still an option. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll include this info when we mention state pensions in the future

If I have to wait 5 weeks for payment I should get 5 weeks pay in arrears correct ?
Yes that's correct
