The Starfox Adventures and the beta game Dinosaur Planet getting mixed together to have a brand new take on a beloved Space animal war simulator series combined with IceCreamMan's creativity and ability to make interesting plots and setting choices is so brilliant that if I were a Nintendo CEO, I would want to hire him! (with full creative license with zero inference)
It's interesting how quite a few scenes reflect a part of Star Fox's story despite being intended for Dinosaur Planet. It's easier to notice cause we're looking for it, but it's understandable how the conclusions were drawn to change Sabre to Fox. (Spoilers for Dinosaur Planet) One of my favorite examples is how Drakkor was intended to send Fox plummeting into lava, doomed like his father, and making Drakkor to Fox was Andross was to James. Krystal was going to save Fox and thus end this tragic cycle for the McClouds. At least that's how I saw it.
i always wanted to see Blackwater Canyon and the Shadow Hunter tribe with the skeleton boss ever since i first read the original leaked script on RareThief. such an imaginative and spooky locale that feels right out of a more fantasy take on gritty 80s kid movies like Land Before Time! and seeing your take on the Bonetail skeleton monster, there's such a draw for me towards amalgamated skeleton monsters of multiple different prehistoric creatures whose bones were fitted together by ancient dark magics in ways nature never intended! i tip my explorer's fedora to you sirs and madams!
I just rewatch your last testrun on this boss. Here is my new opinion : - You change the overall light in this level really well compare to last time. - I don't think you change much the boss, but the darkness and the glowing part made it even better. - I made a comment about this place being a graveyard with no bones around. Now with the fight in the first half of the video, it's resolved. Now about the new things : - There is A LOT of different skeleton. Really great job on the modelling. - A good thing you put "dusty explosion" in place of "fireball" when enemys are destroyed. The effect is a little too bright with the existing darkness, but you can either darken it a bit or keep it bright and add some "blue flame" to the explosion to show that the soul is gone. - When the bridge/structure collapse on the High-Top, I feel that the explosion is unnecessary when the roots are destroyed. The "breaking branch" effect you put is perfect alone. Maybe make the bridge/structure lean more while it fall. Really good job here.
I have to wonder if the Blackwater Canyon takes any inspiration from the Cave of Bad Dreams from Rayman 2. Certainly gave me the same vibes if a bit more intense. Amazing work!
That would've been a perfect opportunity for Fox to say, "Wow... Talk about deja vu" with his father and escaping Andross' exploding lab. Kyte: "What do you mean?" Fox: "Somehow, and I don't know how, my father guided me out of Andross' lair when he tried to take me down with him. This feels like a much more real version of that event, with your mom. But he disappeared the moment I got out. And he's been dead for a long time now." Kyte: "Whoa..."
Extremely wonderfully well done with this, and now exploring Blackwater Canyon and i must say extremely intense and frightening moments, And the frightening Blackwater Bonetail, i must say dangerous and frightening, but i am still curious. Why are you making this have Branched paths. Just like to know. But if you do not want to tell me i understand. you continue doing amazing along with everyone that is helping you out.
@@UndyingNephalim I was not expecting an Answer. Though thank you for telling me. Well i will say, it was indeed interesting, since of course, it lead to one taking the hardest toughest path to get the perfect ending for Star Fox, if i recall correctly. so are you pulling off something similar, or will all paths lead to the same outcome? if that is something that is a secret. You can keep it a secret till you get more done.
I recall some of the dialogue at the start with Kyte's mother coming from a recently recovered cutscene of Dinosaur Planet. Was it around longer than I think or did the writing for this level happen very recently?
This boss battle looks pretty close to the Corridor Mode bosses from Star Fox 64. I’m glad you were able to find a way to do at least one battle like that. Open All-Range style bosses and levels are fine, don’t get me wrong, but it doesn’t quite seem like Star Fox without some of both. Do you have any other battles planned that play out similarly, or just this one?
I feel that you either need a couple more lines in rotation for the middle of the boss fight or...some clearer inclination of whats going on. "Its head is gone" was said multiple times and I can just see that getting kinda irritating when you voice all these over. Maybe 3 or 4 on a rotation maybe? "His head! it broke!" "That knocked his block off!" things like that. variations on the same beat but said a little differently if this is how the fight is going to go.
1: I really hopped this would come after Willow Grow, that way you'd play both Tricky & Kyte so there'd be no favorites on which side between Earth Walkers & Cloud Runners. Are we not trying to make peace with the two after all???? 2: I wasn't able to ask this with the Boss Fight. Would it mean more work if you replace the spider legs for High Top neckbones & skulls???? If so, then leave as is, I was just asking. 3: In your link below (Or Above In This Comments Case) your number alternate path levels doesn't add up. I see 5 alternate paths (Counting Blackwater Canyon) when there's only 4 previous alternate paths before these ones. Please at least answer that for me. Great work by the way, keep it up no matter what.👻👻👻👻🧟🧟♂🧟♀🧟💎💎💎💎
The Thorntail Hollow branches off into Diamond Bay or the Darkice Mines, Discovery Falls branches into Moon Mountain Pass or the Darkice Mines. You can only get to the Twilight Marshes from Willow Grove and you can only get to the Blackwater Canyon from the Lightfoot Village.

I really love the James McCloud retelling with Kyte and her mother.
Wow you’re right! It’s just like what happened in StarFox Zero with James’ ghost.

You really proved that you know how to build a fantastic atmosphere. This place is absolutely unsettling.
0:26 - 1:00 i bet Fox can relate to this moment
This blend of Dinosaur Planet and SFA is perfect, and THE reason I'm loving this mod! Superb work!
Loving the skeleton designs.
These bosses are looking awesome.
This was nicely done! It felt really eerie how those undead sounded.
Btw, it was fun with that Ghostbuster reference.

That was shockingly General Scales’ true form..
Darn, that was CREEPY!! But it was also EPIC!!! I wonder what general scales will do next? And when will we fight him(and Shears) directly?
Cool as always ice cream man good job and good luck,
Looks very good so far! Nice work.
Love the classic SF64 sounds.

they weren't joking, that water do be black
cant believe scales called Fox a furry
Awesome stuff, never seen anything like this in a Starfox before

Zombie Dinosaurs...

Branching paths were part of Starfox since the very start and were always one of the coolest parts about it.

It was actually a bug and the head was supposed to be destroyed much sooner, but I had attempted to record the level dozens of times and gave up.

is there a way to play the campaign missions without having to start from the beginning? meteo is way too difficult.
In the Mission Simulator menu select "Campaign Missions" and then press CTRL - SHIFT - S and it will unlock every mission in the game.
For some reason we don't see Andross or Fara in the land of the dead.
Neither were on Sauria when they died.
