This was one of Freddie's more popular singles. It is famous for the lyrics, "I'm just a singer with a song," which became one of the lines Brian May used when speaking of Freddie, calling him the "Lover of Life, Singer of Songs." Freddie originally recorded this for the soundtrack of the 1986 musical Time. The song was written by the show's writers Dave Clark, David Soames and Jeff Daniels. One of my favorites.
Lover of Life and Singer of Songs is on a plaque in front of the statue of Freddie at Montreux.
I don't know this song! Wow... that was hard and beautiful. I also am at a loss for words...
Lover of Life, Singer of Songs is on the plaque beneath the statue of Freddie in Montreux Switzerland where Freddie and Queen recorded a lot. Freddie is said to have stayed there in his declining years to escape the paparazzi In London. He did return to his home in his dying days. It is still so hard to see the montage of this robust, full of life man and then see the video of These Are The Days of Our Life. We all miss him. As Elton John said, Freddie was a one off.
Wow. He never fails. His words, someone else's words, he always nails the emotion and gets you right in the feels!
Freddie made each song he did so personal, so his own that we think they are about him, things from his own life and heart. This was not written by Freddie and was probably not about Freddie (correct me if I'm wrong). He poured so much feeling into everything he did that he often gets the credit or blame for whatever the song says. It was his great gift and burden. The videos and Freddie's story really add to the emotion.
Too much love will kill you is a brilliant song, penned by Brian may.
With Frank Musker, and Elizabeth Lamers.
One of the most beautiful songs ever …. vocally performed by Freddie!! The song is from the musical TIME produced by Dave Clark who was a close friend of Freddie’s (See Janice Duke’s comment). Dave Clark was in a 60’s group called the Dave Clark 5. Also check out TIME sung by Freddie from the same musical. Do the stripped down version with just Freddie & Mike Moran on piano. 🎶🎶🎶
One of the first people who heard the completed "Time" - album was Sir Laurence Olivier (as Dave Clark played it to him) as Lord Olivier appeared on stage not in person (he was in his late 70's and in frail health by then) but as a giant holographic image. ,ua-cam.com/video/eWXAiLy786A/v-deo.html. When "In My Defence" was over, he said: "What a performance! THIS is a real actor". Indeed. In 1987 Freddie made a one-night appearance in Dave Clark’s Time at the Dominion Theater to support friend Clark ’s musical, one night selling ice-creams 🍦 in the stalls! Can NOT imagine the customer's faces 😲
@@janiceduke1205 I cannot imagine!! “Two scoops, please” 🍦🍦 WOW!!
@@debramoore7513 🍨➡️️😋, 2 of anything from Freddie would be 👅💦💦
@@janiceduke1205 Hahahahaha!! 🫐🍒
@@janiceduke1205 there is actually a recording from that night where he performed 2 songs before the show, this was one of them. Unfortunately it’s a bad quality audience recording.
This song is soooooooooo good, Freddie's vocals are insane, and the lyrics, OMG-OFTW!!! 💛🥰💛💯🥰🤟
This one was from the 1986 musical "Time" by Dave Clark, who wrote it with David Soames and Jeff Daniels.
The lyrics are great, but what brings it to life is Freddie's performance, the vocals reaching so high and the emotion he brings, the way he could and can make the words his own. 💛💯😎🥰🤟
Thank the Gods I'm wearing my waterproof mascara, or else I would end up looking like a Panda, for sure!!! 🐼
Freddie has amazing solo work, you must check it out. It will blow your mind! Promise!
Great reaction, as always 💯😎👌👏🤘
You have to listen to the "pair" of this song, called Time. That has been written to the same musical, and was performed by Freddie The Great. Time waits for nobody...
When Dave Clark hunted out the original track of Freddie solo, and re-leased it a few years back, it was startling to see - as though just done. A tribute to his friend that he thought should be shared in solo form. Rumor has it that there are still some secret treasures out there (Queen + Bowie). Patience is a virtue, I hope.
"I'M NOT GOING TO BE A ROCK STAR"
"I'M GOING TO BE A LEGEND"
SO VERY TRUE..
LOVE YOU FREDDIE MERCURY ❤️
Ah Freddie! He is always able to get you right in the heart, no matter who wrote the song!
Love this song. As others have said written by Dave Clarke for the musical Time, and sung oh so beautifully by Freddie.
You were right Rad, it was emotional but I really liked it.
Next month,on 5.9.it's Freddies Birthday. It is celebrated every normal Year by the Fans in Montreux, Switzerland. It would be nice to celebrate there once... Greatings from Berlin 🤗
You're right. Amazing song. Nothing more to say.
Beautiful song. Gorgeous video. Thank you for this reaction. Hits me in the heart every time.
Excellent choice.....love and miss Freddie
Beautiful song amazing video Freddie at his best very emotional from the musical time lovely to see Freddie happy gone too soon x
Yeeaahhh. Most people say that "Mother Love" is the saddest Queen/Freddie song since he passed away before finishing it (I think that song is lovely tho)... but THIS is the one that pierces me right through, EVERY TIME.😭
I love Freddie Mercury and can't wait to hear this song! Thank you Rad.
Very emotional song ❤️
This is such a beautiful song. Freddie sings it perfectly as he always does. The last line really hits hard but so beautiful Thank for the reaction. Much love. 💙💙💙💙💙🌹🌹🌹🌹💜💜💜💜

Queen rock -n-role medley at Wembley, you will absolutely love this 🏴🏴🏴
Tears….a beautiful man facing death 😢
Never heard this before. Just amazing. Thank you.
Freddie declined to be in his friend Dave's hit show but agreed to record a song for the album. He heard someone perform In My Defense & was so moved he asked to sing it. Of course they loved it. The other song, that he' d been asked to do was Time ( or Time Waits for Noone.) He did both for the album. There's another video of his actual performance , a behind the scenes type thing. I love the one you showed, so many beautiful pictures & memories, but the other is also lovely.
ME ALEGRO QUE TE GUSTE FREDDIE Y QUEEN.LOS MEJORES Y SIGUEN EN NUESTRO CORAZON.VOZ DE FREDDIE DE OTRO PLANETA,FUE MUY CRUEL SU MUERTE.EMOCIONANTE LLORAR POR EL DESPUES DE 30 AÑOS NO ES NORMAL.LO ECCHALMOS DE MENOS.
Rad ,Freddie was an emotional guy. Much luv mate from Scotland
😢
This is such a beautiful song I just love how emotive Freddie's voice is. Thank you.
This one is most definitely top 3 lol.
Freddie certainly could have penned these lyrics, yet that was his gift. He channeled all that emotion and shared it with anyone who listened. And he could do it even through studio recordings.
He did this track for Dave Clark's show Time. This is a beautiful song.
A heartbreaking song of freddie that when i listening it ive cry a tear iwas missing him so much
I Cannot get through without tears running down my face......
I recommend that you check out Freddie Mercury singing with Montserrat Caballe She was a opera singer that he went to see one time and became a great fan of hers and wrote a song called Barelona he wrote the whole song for both of their parts it's so beautiful trust me
It´s been a while since I´ve heard this one, and it make me cry again. Simple song, but very powerful. Please reacto to "Time" or "The Great Pretender" also by Freedie.
Ohh freddie l misss you more when l hear your music
dave clark wrote it but he chose freddie to sing it for a reason and freddie could therefore identify with it for a reason.
Today is Freddie birthday! 💃🏻❤️🕺🏽
This song was written in 1986 for the musical "Time". The video was made and released posthumously and was a top ten hit. It's not about Freddie, but it's about Freddie :( Seems to happen often.
I just found your wonderful UA-cam page about a month ago and it happened to me Queen at Live Aid! I love your work and will continue to watch and go back to watch what I’ve missed. This is a beautiful song but you’re right, it’s very emotional❣️Keep doin’ your thing‼️‼️💗
Try watching Queen at Wembley live in 86
I had this as my wake up song for almost 2 years. 😍
Beautiful song.
I play this song in my car all the time and I love it. But when I watch it with the video I cry, topped with your reaction it gets you too. ❤
I love this song.. The video you used I have saved here on You Tube. I is great.
I know where almost all of the clips that they used came from and they did a beautiful editing job to match the song.
Thanks Rad. You are letting me see songs again through the next generations eyes, so to speak.
The song guide me home ...is also very, very emotional .
This is beautiful. I have never seen this.
This is horrible and wonderful to hear 😭💔 love you Freddie.....thanks sweet Rad. LOL, SOS
Have you heard Mother Love? It was the last song Freddie ever recorded and, in fact, he didn't live to finish it. Brian May sings the last verse.
Love your channel. If you haven't already there is an official video of Freddy Mercury, The Great Pretender with Roger Taylor as one of the backup female singers (the one in the blonde wig). Really was entertained with this one.
New to your channel...this is pure Freddie genius, so poignant too
Loving your trip thru Queen! Some ideas for future reviews
The Miracle
Breakthru
Too much love will kill you
None of these were performed live but all have official videos. There are SO many more!
Hope all is well with you, missing your reactions. Take care
Yo babe, I get it why words fail ………. It’s beyond words!
recorded in 86 For Dave Clarke album (musical)
they became close friends and Dave visited him until the end
he met the pianist Mike Moran when he was recording this
he later asked him if he wanted to work on his solo album which was put to the side for Barcalona album
I wish he had gone back to the solo though afterwards
the other track he sang for the album was Time
he always manages to sing songs as if they were written by him and personal to him,I guess with alot of songs there's something he can relate, connect to
and he had plenty of practise through Queen!
but it always feels genuine
this song,it's surprising someone else wrote it because it feels like a personal message?
in this video, the blonde woman with bobbed hair he kissed was Mary
the clip where he kissed another woman was from his solo'born to love you' video
the guy who put a towel around him was joe his ex from 78/79
they became friends again in the 80s,he did the tours instead of his pa Peter,Joe was his chef and lived with him and Peter (platonically not relationship)
they all moved to garden Lodge later on in 85
An incredible song , believe me , we understand how hard it is to bring words after listening to Freddie empty his soul on us like that .I believe that was a Freddie single..but it was definitely Brian May on the guitar...his style is unmistakable.
The guitars are were played by Paul Vincent who also played the guitars on Mr. Bad Guy and imitated Brian's guitar-sound on "She Blows Hot And Cold". On this cut, he also sounds a bit like Brian.). His guitar-parts were recorded at Musicland Studios, Munich.
Andy Pask - bass guitar
He didn't need to plead his defence . This was from the musical TIME where Rock Stars having to plead the defence of the Earth to the ''Gods'' ... or higher beings before the destruction of the planet ? But again how very close to home it appears to be for Freddie .. Just as does Time Waits For No-One.
Just a sinner with a melody, help me God with the Holy Spirit Dove transformation
I really love your reaction to queen(freddie the God music) you really love queen and I'm a big fun of freddie especially but the rest of the band are the 👌 but we all know without freddie there's no queen and this song is unic with that insane range of freddie makes me goosebumps and chills all over my body thanks
