11: Burnish resistance -- Passing the Test with 3M™ Ceramic Microspheres

A painted surface that is rubbed consistently -- for instance, by kids or pets -- may turn shiny. This burnishing is very noticeable on flat architectural paints containing a high amount of fillers. Other, irregularly shaped fillers will begin to stick out and reflect light. 3M brand ceramic microspheres, however, help protect against burnishing, due to their hardness and unique spherical shape.
ASTM D6736-08 test yields quantitative estimates of a paint's burnish resistance.
