    Nice video! New subscriber, I've been having problems with my two Boas with mites. Ive treated them with reptile spray and the glass cages as well. I've thrown away all the decorations and they're on paper towels and hide and water bowl are plastic. Everyday I check on them and I always notice 1 or 2 mites. I'm gonna try that olive oil truck, hope it works. Little by little they are going away but now I'm gonna order the Provent A Mite and I reall hope it works cause I wanna get 2 more snakes! Great channel (:

    Great vid . Also would like to add if you do get a snake in from a breeder, pet store , etc. and it does have mites don't go off and bash them . Shit happens . Mites are so easily spread it's near impossible to never come across them . Also remember they are harder to see on darker snakes . Great vid. I subbed as soon as I saw the olive oil lol

    I know this video is older but I have a question. I’m a newer snake owner and it’s a banana Bp and he has similar black spots that the snake in this video has and as he’s grown he’s gotten more. He’s been to a vet and the vet said he did not have mites but another fellow snake owner said the black spots are mites is there anyway I could email you a picture and you verify that my bp is the same as yours with the black looking scales?

    • @Balls2U
      @Balls2U  2 роки тому

      All bananas get black spots
      If the vet says they are not mites, then your safe.

    Gavin, another great video!!! I would have never thought of this as a prevention technique. Its ok to add the snake to the tub with the pest killer? I assume so since you leave 15 min then air out for 15 min? Also does the olive oil just disperse over time?

      I put olive oil on my beardie to help with mites, and after about 2 hours he still felt a bit oily, so after about 20 minutes I would recommend just wiping it off. Hope this helps! 😁

    Treating my new snake for mites now as it was delivered to me with mites in the bag! As she's my only snake I didn't need to quarantine but I have been soaking her in warm water for around 10 minutes and using the olive oil trick and they seem to be coming off! Have just ordered this spray treatment and will be arriving in a couple days, hopefully this solves my problem!

      Put a drop of dawn dish soap on water and swish it around.keep it at 85 degrees the snake should not be swimming in it.

    Hey! Loved the video new subscriber, I have recently bought my 1st bp hes a banana lemon blast an I saw some small brown/black dots on him so I soaked him in warm water. What came off him really just looked like the coco fibers I have for his bedding and nothing was moving on him prior when i was rubbing the area.
    I want to try the olive oil trick but I dont want to stress him out to much. Should I give him 2-3days to let him relax before attempting?
    Hope to hear back soon!
    Thank you!

    • @Balls2U

      Mite move over the body of the snake so this will work..... However I find frontline works a lot better and quicker

    • @hatembenrais
      @hatembenrais 4 роки тому

      Balls2U so I ran my quarantined BP through a paper towel with olive oil and only a little black bug came off his body. A tiny one, the size of a flea. I squished it and there was no blood. Just a black thingy that came out of it. Do mites show blood when squished like dogs ticks?
      I had a doubt this morning as I saw that black bug as well as a tiny other one, like a very little black dot moving on the paper towel. I’m not sure they are mites, nothing else on the paper towel, nothing in the water bowl. The tricky part is that the BP is quarentined in the porch where we often open windows to ventilate. So I don’t exclude the fact they could be just small insects that sneaked in thru the tub’s ventilation holes.
      How likely is it to be a mite? That’s the question. What do you think about soaking the snake in soap and water? I’vs see that on YT as well. Thanks.

    • @Balls2U
      @Balls2U  4 роки тому +1

      @@hatembenrais when you squeeze a might then tend to pop... If it's been feeding from the snake it's blood is red, if not then it's more black.... I would keep a eye on it just in case

    I recently got my first ball python, I've had her around 2 weeks and today realised mites all over her! She is about to shed too. When quarantining a snake how do you regulate the temperature of the container? Do I keep the heat mat under one side of the container to maintain a warm side? I bought a new viv, she is obviously not in it yet and will not be going in until I know the mites are gone. With the viv she is in now I will gut it out and disinfect, can I keep the quarantined container in the original viv on top of the heat mat? Very informative video by the way! Thank you

    Hey up.
    Just wanna say liked your 1st video. found out my new royal python has mites after she stayed in her water bowl all day and just rang alarm bells as she don't normally do this. took a quick look in it and there was mites at the bottom all over he place.
    took you oil treatment on hand and wow what a result I have had to get just a few more mites off.
    have some mite spray called callington paid 27 pounds for 100g spray bottle and Al ready seen tonight a few dead mites on the white paper towl so hope time will tell that these treatments will work.
    my main question is with the oil treatment how often do I do this is it a one off or can I do it every day or every other week.. .. :-)
    thanks again

    Excellent video! I use this exact method for controlling mites. The olive oil works great. We've had issues with natural bedding like cypress mulch coming in from the manufacturer or retailer with pests so anyone that uses nature I recommend 2 hours of baking at about 300 degree and Prevent-a-mite treatments for that as well.

    I just noticed some tiny tan colored bugs I guess are mites in with my BP so I need to treat her. My question is though, she's still healing from a burn a couple of months ago (heat pad went crazy and burnt her pretty good) She's shed and the wounds are very small but technically open. Would the olive oil treatment be okay for her or could it bother her injuries? She's about as big as the banana in this video actually lol. She doesn't actually appear to have any bugs actually on her that I can see, she's a very bright white and yellow bumblebee so apparently they aren't bad. Please advise?
    Love your channel by the way, I've gotten the best information watching your videos!

    Nice video for treatment against mites. But one tipp about using ardap. Please let the water bowl for minimum 48 hours out of the tube. The aerosol in the ardap can go in the water and you can become a critical conzentration off this for your animal. I hope you understand my english. Regards from Germany
