I've been listening to several reviews of " Leasure the basis of culture", I think this is the best. Thanks for the podcast.

Thank you, Fr. Blake and Brandon for your Podcast on Leisure. It really helped me understand the difference between authentic leisure and secondary leisure. Even though I am retired, I need to take some time for real authentic leisure.

Leisure the Basis of Culture used to be required reading for incoming freshman at Ave Maria University. I'm glad I was required to read it, but probably need to revisit it.

Leisure is about sight. It's about allowing what is there to be received. Essentially, it means an openness and general orientation toward awe and gratitude. Leisure means looking upon creation with awe and gratitude. With this in mind, we see that leisure is an attitude that can be applied to any situation. It is the rejection of cynicism and sarcasm for appreciation. In Christianity, such appreciation is called worship.

Wonderful podcast- I recently reads Piepers book on leisure and this was a nice compliment and refresher to some of the greater themes in the book- well said and well received - god bless you both and your ministry as this episode in itself was quite leisurely for me :)

Sitting still in the love seat is comfortable, the progression out of the chair to the destination makes the back and kneecap snap, crackle, and pop and is the painful and uncomfortable.

I'm trying to be more leisurely, get more interior castle, but it's not easy and is such a hassle.
I'm trying to be more leisurely, and get increasingly interior castle, but it's not easy, and seems like it is just such one big hassle.
but it isn't so easy? and seems as if it is just such one big hassle?
I'm trying to be more leisurely, and dying to get increasingly interior castle, but it isn't so easy you know, and seems as if it is just such one big, dumb, unfun, surely rigged hassle.
it isn't so easy you do know? Put the "do" in there to make a sound similar to the "you"? Unless there is a word already in it besides 'you' that has that sort of sound which I just missed when going over it to see.
"Mere" to sound like interior? "it is just such one big, mere, dumb, unfun, surely rigged up hassle? "Up" to go along with the others that go kind of like the noise of that other?
I'm trying to be much more leisurely, and dying to get increasingly interior castle, but it isn't so easy you do know, and seems as if it is just such one big, mere, dumb, unfun, surely rigged up hassle.
The bible says knowledge puffs up. So maybe that thing a lot of you smart guys say, or something to the extent of, destroys knowledge, is useful. That deducing or reductionism, wherever you all call it, could be there to crush the puffy knowledge that doesn't know the ledge. Or would true knowledge know where the ledge of knowledge ends and that's the knowledge that needs deflating or to be popped. Or is it the thing it puffs up that will shrivel and shrink and cease to be? Or has it vanquished the knowledge to make the puffed up object lose steam?

If you want comfort, you'll rush through things to get them over with so you can get to the rest. So laziness leads to activity, restlessness.

    • @JosephAJester
      @JosephAJester 11 місяців тому

If laziness is active in you, not dead, then it is activity.

    • @JosephAJester
      @JosephAJester 11 місяців тому

Laziness is at work in me. It's working in me. It's the work that's going on in me. It's not knocked out and leaving me alone, but up and awake and bothering me.

    • @JosephAJester

Laziness is the activity of my will.

    • @JosephAJester
      @JosephAJester 11 місяців тому

Activity isn't a living being. So it's dead, non-existent. Thus it does not work. Therefore it can't get you out of the trouble you are in called life, the path to death, suffering and loss.

Dullness doesn't feel insane. It gets you down. Being overwhelmed, in an exciting situation, makes you feel like you're going insane. You tell the kid to calm down when he's outwardly very overly excited. You say he's going insane, or getting crazy, or being nuts, or becoming wild, not dull and repetitive, like nature, life, the world, the people.
Believing the bad predicament you're in now can't change, or will have to take long to change, changing slowly over time, like evolutionists say things happen, can break you and zap and drain you of your energy and make you give up. But believing a change can come in a flash, that a miracle can occur, gives you vitality and puts some pep in your step.

If you want a person to go mad lock him in a room with no human contact.
The mad people in insane asylums aren't sitting around planning for the holidays. They cast all their past off to stick with just their delusion.
The lunatic is obsessed with his own idea that he is napoleon. His idea, his plan, is all that matters. All the rest of us are wrong, to him, when we tell him to give up focusing on himself and his own plan so much.
While the family, and the rest of us are planning for the holidays, the drug addict, and sex addict and mentally ill are on solo missions, planning to get their addiction, their insane thought.
The family is sitting together around the holiday dinner table, all having the same goal, to sit there and eat and argue and laugh. But the drug addict, and sex addict, and mentally ill are on their own solo mission and are dead serious about it, it's a job, not a holiday.

The nuts are not all in an insane asylum in unification, all of them saying the same thing, that they're from outer space; they're all doing their own thing.
The nut is in unification with himself. He doesn't doubt his self when his mind tells him he's a walnut.

    • @JosephAJester

My mind is still in the habit of hearing a noise in the house and thinking it's my Mom. Then it remembers she's not here anymore.
Or I notice my mind doing that and I remind it that she's here in spirit, not in body right now.

    • @JosephAJester
      @JosephAJester Рік тому

You don't rebody, or remind, your body, you remind your mind.
Your mind forgets and you remind it.
You don't remind your body and make it a mind again, you remind your mind and make it the mind it was that it forgot about but that you remembered.

I'm not doing it. It's my insanity talking and eating and laughing, not me, not me choosing to do it.
      Craziness isn't pseudo-science, it's science, making a better world.
Madness isn't imaginary, it's logical. It's putting the words in my mouth. Thus it can make words. Hence it is alive.

    • @JosephAJester

Do exorcists use latin on demons to expel them, and it would be a demons dream for the latin mass to disappear from the earth?
Do protestants go back to the bible but don't go back far enough to the mass that was performed before the bible was put into written form, and the non-traditional mass came long after the bible was around?

Fearing your plans being ruined is sensible. The senseless is freedom from that fear. Be sensible, filled with care. I'm senseless.
It's gonna keep harder and harder to stick to the plan and order.
All knowledge is foolishness. Its just thought, not matter, not the real world.
What I just said isn't knowledge, its faith, senseless, pain, loss, death, things not going the way the mind thought they would.
There's a such thing as senseless. So senseless is sensible.
There is a such thing as nonsense. So nonsense is sensible, not a story.

You have it good in america. That system that came from the mind of the white supremacist protestant made life easy. Are you gonna end poverty? The billionaire goes bankrupt. Did he just need a trillion, and that would of have done the job?
America has gunshots in it everyday. Your neighborhood in america not having gunshots in it is not america not having gunshots in it. Food spoils and resources aren't everlasting, they come and go, so how do you plan to end poverty? America is in debt, so it's below the poverty line. Don't be negative, think about the dying child in the 3rd world. That'll brighten your day up. Think of the 3rd world's problems so we can find a reason to invade it to save it.

Imagine how bad your company would run and how much money it would miss out on and lose if it kept itself hidden away from people and didn't advertise.
People don't trust people who are sneaky. People won't do business with a person that seems shady to them and not open and honest.

Hey, if all are rich, then everyone can pay the judge off and do anything they want and get away with it and you'll have a safe, peace filled, life and world.
So make sure everyone gets rich, not moral.
Everyone should do wrong, so the world becomes more dangerous and you can get a thrill and adrenaline rush from the life they turn into a deadly sport and scary carnival ride, and from the chance of them getting caught doing it and from rebelling against the rules and from getting away with it, and from the big gamble you're taking.
Being negative hurts you. So save yourself, not the world for christ, for doing the latter will get you hurt, that's being negative. Don't expose the evil and bring it out into the light. If you do they'll say you're being negative and hateful and not give you jobs, and by proxy, not give you food. Be about yourself, not others. Once everybody is about themselves it'll be a unified world full of love, the dangerous exciting adventure, not that boring dull hate and drama and cut throat competition.

Play and rest are not work. So they're not of your doing.
God is not a creation, a work. If your god is your creation, he is a work, not play and rest.

Being upset that life, with or without me, pulls you off your plans as if it's forcing you to do what my plan is for you, which is your destruction, is not what is zapping your motivation to live and draining your energy from you, and by proxy, stealing and sucking away your health.

The living die. The dead are already dead. They don't die. The moment you die you'll be dead. And only the living die. So you'll be alive that same moment, the moment you die. Thus you are dead when you are alive, a contradiction, not sound logic like a being who is only alive and not dying is.
You don't die when you're dead, you are alive when you die and are dead. You're not the dead that dies, but living while dying, while having died you will have been alive. When you die you are dead, and the alive are the one's who die, so when you die you will be the dead life.
A being that is alive and does not die is reasonable. A being that dies while it is alive is a contradiction, nonsense, the living dead, foolish. You won't be dead and die when you are dead, you will die when you are alive, and be dead as you live.
A dying god can't be in my mind, for then he would be not in time, and have no end time, no dying time. The empirical evidence proves a dying god in a mind, a dying god that never began at any time and who will never be finished at some time. He's dead to dying.
Facts are outside mind. A dying god that is a contradiction is a fact. Facts are fools, not reason. A dying god that is not a contradiction is a fool, a fact.

Your job isn't to rest. The rest will come naturally. It is the work of nature. So rest is work.
Rest doesn't magically appear. It isn't magic. It takes work. It's hard work! Is gravity working and pulling you to the bed?
Is your hearing working, or away on vacation, or playing a fool, or conjuring a spell?
Is the lifeless medicine doing it's job? Is the dead pill working?
Rest isn't the stone's job. The stone doesn't work. The stone is not working. The sky is free from responsibility. The wind is taking a break. So rest is god's job, or the task of the labor and play; it's their duty to perform, wearing you out. They put it into action. They play wargames against you. God, fun, movement and thinking brings it into play. They initiate and install and produce the sleep and dreary weariness for you to wear.

You take a rest to get your bearings about you, to gather your thoughts, to regain your senses. So work makes you lose your senses, therefore it is senseless, and it does the job of making you senseless, so it works, thus it's makes sense and is sensible.
      passive passion
Sense isn't a living being. Hence it's passive.
The words "being passive is senseless," are not alive or physical, and are not doing the job on me, so they're passive, senseless
Man is not an action. He's passivity. So the passive, passivity makes a job and does the work.
Look, he won't partake or engage in being passive. See, he's passive.
You work for sense (not for nonsense), you don't sense for sense, so work is senseless, passive.

She does good for her husband all her life. She is always gathering wool and flax and enjoys making things with her hands. She is like a ship from a faraway place. She brings home food from everywhere. She wakes up early in the morning, cooks food for her family, and gives the servants their share. She looks at land and buys it. She uses the money she has earned and plants a vineyard. She works very hard. She is strong and able to do all her work. She works late into the night to make sure her business earns a profit. She makes her own thread and weaves her own cloth. She does not worry about her family when it snows. She has given them all good, warm clothes. She makes sheets and spreads for the beds, and she wears clothes of fine linen. Her husband is well known and sits still with the elders in the center of town. She makes clothes and belts and sells them to the merchants. She oversees the care of her house. She is never lazy.

Practice is practical. But actually playing in the game is serious business, go time, playful, taking place on your day off, no big deal, not a job, no work.
If you're in the habit of going slow you'll spend slow and not make rash rushed financial decisions.
If you're practiced in going fast you'll be in the habit of spending your health, wealth, intelligence and love fast in a mad dash.
In a race there's a finish line. Is death the finish line you're trying to beat everyone to?
There's a finish line in a race. Is racing the reward you're trying to get in first place for and first in line for?
Money comes and goes. So how can it be the end goal? I got money. I got a penny. Is the race over for me now, or is money a finish line and trophy and victory story that can be lost and taken from you and spent up and wasted away and not a practical thing to make the finish line you're trying to get to first and is what you can take your time getting and go to slow and spend wisely, knowing what quality is as well as quantity and understanding what is just garbage and practical and going to chase you around and hunt you down to get you to pay and beg.
If it's draped and covered in bright colors that doesn't mean it's not junk, and if it's plain, not a party and dying down, then it's like peace, sustaining, what you're looking for, not fast furious noisy fiery life taking complex war.

The dust doesn't work. the sky isn't carrying out a duty, the puddle isn't doing a good job. So nature is not practical, a practitioner of religious rituals is. The dead aren't laboring. The night isn't at work. The moment doesn't have a job to get done before it's too late. Performance is for actors, tasks are set by spirits. Miracles, not miles and oval and green, operate and are functioning. Pebbles aren't building and planning and civilizing and inventing and selling and figuring and directing, delivering, activated, engaged, toiling, striving and hustling or in training and practicing.

The universe is God's work, not mine, Propulsion isn't money, a company, or commercial, the practical, it's a curse, practically impractical.

Being alone is boxing yourself in. People out and about, having not painted themselves into a corner, get things.
      Global Trade takes human interaction.
The hermit living alone in a cave with no community to communicate with starts acting a little goofy and somewhat off.
Sales require some sort of socializing.
Ancient nations prospered trading goods on the silk road.
Not all are cut out to be cloistered nuns. Many will crack up under the pressure.
They haven't been well prepared to be purged like a lone monk living stranded on a deserted island isolated from the towns social life, not socializing and involved, watching life pass by and slip right through their fingers.
The tv and schools got the prisoners and poisoned poised to toss themselves into the hole and locked down pow concentration camp.

If boys are initiated into manhood by culture then culture existed before manhood and wasn't made by manliness but by catfighting and jealousy and old lady gossip and the burning of the ex-boyfriend's property. Should women get a free pass and boys need to be suppressed and repressed? Does nature initiate girls into sex toys and boys into worker slaves?
Nature is wild, a boy. A magician's trick is thought out, civilized, a hoax.
Did nature make the queen bee and biblical culture made the worker bee protect her. Or is there no schizophrenia and nature made them both the women the way they are? If before culture boys were wild, and it takes a tame man to get a woman to not reach womanhood and go to prison but to reach it and be civilized and create culture so the culture can domesticate and break the boy, then he couldn't have become the man and put eve in her place and make her start a culture to train him to keep her insanity and fantasying at home.
There's women in prison. Did they not naturally reach womanhood? Or is it men, not nature, that stops the deceived eve from being a lying serpent and appearing as an angel of light?
The wild animal is innocent, not tame.
      Insanity is wild, the natural.
      God wasn't trained, he's wild.
Nature is wild, insanity. Sanity isn't natural, it's man made, unnatural, a distortion.
Women are natural, nature. Nature initiating itself is circular logic.
If the reason she is not good is because he is not tame, and the reason he is not tame is because the culture is not good, and the reason the culture is not good is because nature is not tame, then the reason nature is not tame is because god is good and untamed.
Was the culture that failed to make boys into men made up of men, and men were made into men before culture was made, or is the culture that fails made up of girls and women, and if it was made up of boys who made that culture, a wild off the wall man-god?

8:15 - You state that 'Communists' and 'Marxists' think that work "is the main thing". Sorry, isn't that the opposite of what they think? You just described the importance of leisure and the importance of meaningful work and then said this is what communism supports when that's what they oppose. Leisure was central to Marx's thinking - he believed people should be engaging in literary criticism in their evenings but they cannot - hence his criticism.

God made the world go crazy so you can't really take it seriously and be serious about it but only loving it.
You don't love problems, you get serious about problems, not happy with them. Are you serious about this life, or about her or him, and see them as a problem?
I'm a problem, a serious thing, god is being happy, the answer to the problem.
Happy is god, what you don't have time for. You have to get to serious things, the problems, your pleasures.

Why would I join a catholic church that attacks and abandons at the cross it's own kind who are traditional or who question the holocaust, and the whole victimhood narrative, and vatican 2; but a catholic church which at the same time stands up for the illegal aliens, powerful rabbis, and seculars? Why not just stay secular and protected by the catholic church?
