I never understood how mach this made sense for me until my father passed away. Since I live halfway across the world and already had $10K minimum cash saved up and still has my income from my business and engineering job still coming in. I have a great employer and employees. I know my situation is not the norm but I was able to go home within 12 hours and handled what I needed to handle. It felt sooo good to be able to pause everything for a couple of months and not worry about my money. If you can save whatever you can. Cuz life will still life.

In the mid 90s liquidated a tax shelter I started in my 20s. That bought into new our house. I made way more money in equity. Never spend your 401K monies after leaving a job. I saw that in the corporate world all the time. I rolled my 401Ks into a decent IRA. Speaking of IRA, I'm sick of the ups and downs, no real gains after the Obama years. Nice vlog!

The only investments I have in the markets is in a 403b at my job. Does that count as investing? I know way too little about investing to try to do it on my own! I've maxed my employer match of 10% of my paycheck plus 300 per month into a pretax Ira, and 300 into a post tax Ira. All of this is done automatically from my paycheck each pay period. I'm not putting more in because I'm also building a house cash only, and paying towards buying 3 small apartments at the same time. I'm 59 and plan to stop formal employment at 62.

If you're in your 20 and have a job. I think if you can't save for anything else and able to max out your ROTH IRA each year. I think you will be fine when you retire at age 65 or 55. Of course have an emergency fund 3-6 months of your expenses are very important. Max this out first.

You’re a smart guy, but most 20 year olds aren’t thinking about investing? I’m in my early 50’s, had a 457 through work, and unfortunately got scammed out of 30k. Had a City job, pension is now what I live off. 26 years I put in there. So it’s heartbreaking that I’m starting all over again. Biggest mistake of my life, obviously. Trusting someone I didn’t know personally. Makes me sick now, thinking about it.

Good stuff. I would say tho that just term life isn't enough. A critical illness rider is great to have and is usually only available on whole or universal life. That rider allows you to use a substantial amount of your face value and interest earned to that point in order to pay for medical bills if you're diagnosed with a life threatening/long term ilness such as cancer and the like.

24:03 you lost 1/3 of your money, then tripled it within 18 months? Do you even listen to your own risk advice? Why would you have even taken on the level of risk to triple your wealth at that point, then you’re over here telling everyone on UA-cam that they need to play it safe?
What kind of advice are you even giving? How can anyone trust it? 😮
