Thanks for this. I'm having the same exact issue with mine and thought it was toast. My local music store told me that their tech wouldn't touch it and I'd have to call Native Instruments. I appreciate this!
I noticed you cant hold them on their sides or upside down, any position other than on a flat surface with the screens and buttons upward as this results in connections not being made internally, which causes the lights or the screens not to illuminate. I had to put it back down flat on it's rubber feet to get my screens to come on and stop flashing. Unfortunately you can't really wear the thing around your shoulder ... best look at other controller options if you want to perform in that way
Any way of knowing the value of L2? Just south of the USB power supply. I don't think I have the power supply cord but I heard it didn't work anymore, and L2 looks fried
Thanks for the video bro. Been having this problem for a long time. Learned how to salder in audio school I guess I'll see if I still have the skills lol.
Hi can you please do one on how to solder the screen back. mk1 mikro still works but the screen got detached by mistake while trying to fix a problem with the pads
I just did this, the problem persist though, the machine flashes all buttons but then goes blank, screens blank too. Any other ideas of where this could be broken? I had assumed it was the issue since it had been intermittent for about a week before it stopped working.
Did you have the Maschine connected to a computer with the Maschine software open? You should at least see the Maschine logo still on the screen even if you don't have it connected to the software so I would check the solder points to make sure they have a solid connection. If that looks good maybe check the board and see if any of the traces are broken. If the traces look good, then it may be a problem with the screens. But if the whole thing is cutting off intermittently, it sounds like a power issue which would lead us back to the power source. Depending on what you're working on (MK1, MK2, Studio) the power source is most likely the USB port, so that is what I would trouble shoot unless it's a studio which has a power supply. Not sure if that helps but those are the next things I would check.
@@JRNobleofficial OH! I didn't see this, sorry. It's a mk1. I don't want to use it with the software, I haven't used Maschine since I got Ableton. I just want it's pads, I love those pads. I'll take a closer look at it. Honestly, when I took the old USB port off nothing looked bad. Had the center piece and nothing looked burned 🤷♂️
I've been meaning to take apart my Maschine Studio because i've got some loose knobs. I'll see if I can make a video when I get a chance to pull take a look at fixing mine.
You can find them in a lot of places. I saw Walmart even carries them but here's a website that might allow you to buy one at a time instead of having to buy a 5 or 10 pack: www.peconnectors.com/usb-connectors-and-adapters/hws10493/
Have you even encountered Maschines with backlight problems? On my MK2 right screen backlight doesn't work, so I decided to take it apart and take a look. I've found out that one of the contacts causes backlight to turn off, but I can't figure out which one exactly...
Hey @Andrii Taran I've seen backlight issues but haven't tried to fix them yet. I believe that it's a problem with the screen and you just need to replace the screen but I'm not certain about that.
Hey @DjCedRva my rate is $75 for the repair and whatever the shipping is on top of that. If you're still interested you can message me at jrnoble@jrnoble.co
Got the port replaced but still no power. It was a gift from a friend, if i could fix it i could have it deals. Do i need the maschine program on my computer for the mk1 to show power?
You wouldn't need the software for it to power on. If you plug it in without the software installed or opened on your computer, it would show the maschine logo on the screen but you wouldn't light up the pads. Did you make sure the connections were soldered on completely? You want to make sure that there is a good connection between the port and the solder points on the board.
It's called a USB B connector. You can find details here in the article I wrote jrnoble.co/free-video-reveals-cheap-fix-for-native-instruments-maschine/
Do you know if all the USB port are the same for every Native Instruments products? I have an audio10 soundcard and the port gor broken. Is it possible to fix it or replace it?
Depends if its a USB A (rectangle) or USB B (square) but most likely it's a USB B port on that device so you should be good to replace it with a USB B port. It's definitely possible to fix. Probably easier just to replace the port if that's the failure point.
@@JRNobleofficial Thank you for your help! I think it is a USB B port. Did you buy it on Amazon? Does it matter the brand of the piece? Or is it just a generic USB B port? Thnx again!

So do i just put in the port regardless of them touching the circle or do they actually need to touch the circle for the tracer to receive power from the port
+J.R. Noble yeah when I replaced the USB port , but at that point , the trace was touching the hole but still peeled up so i have to repair the trace and run it to the hole nd the keyboard should work again if i am correct
+Unknown User yeah that should get it working. have you tried reconnecting the two with some solder? It's a quick fix but might get things working sooner than later.
When i start up my MK2, on my laptop it goes right to preference, then remain stuck there. How can i stop it from going to preference and go right to MASCHINE and open up.
Jonathan Michie it's hard to give an answer without knowing more about the problem. Mac or PC? Does it only happen when opening maschine in stand alone or have you tried it in a DAW? Have you tried opening a session and it still happens? Have you checked for updates to the software? Have you checked the NI forums yet?
@kNCPT rec it sounds like the USB port could be the problem. If the port is really loose when you connect a USB cable then the connections might not be getting made in order to power it up.
Hey @ticnology Here's a link to the blog post with all the links. I updated the description with a link to the blog post as well. jrnoble.co/free-video-reveals-cheap-fix-for-native-instruments-maschine/
So my Maschine to begin with would light up extremely intermittently not even a half a second but still noticeably does something. I bought a replacement USB port and took my Maschine apart today. Everything went very smoothly until it came to taking off the original port.. I tried my best to desolder the port but will admit i did a little sketchy of a job. it wasn't easy. Did eventually get it out and replaced the piece and did my best to solder it back in. Seemed to be good and then i plugged the power chord in and it's the same extremely fast turn on off.
No traces seemed to be damaged expect maybe a scratch over a line or two. I could take a picture of the work i did. it doesn't look that messy of a job compared to others I have seen on youtube.
I'll be honest, I made this video so I wouldn't have to fix them for other people. I do repair them but my rate is $75, parts included with a fast turn around. Shipping is extra
While I appreciate your skills and efforts behind making this video... Another part of thinks... if this is what I have to do to make a manufacturer's piece of gear work... All the more reason to NOT use this platform. I recently cancelled my Order at an online retailer to pick up a Maschine Mikro, and returning the other Maschine I picked up elsewhere. I never plan on wasting my time with anything Maschine related again. Ableton and anything Novation Launch products line never gave me this issue.
I picked up a Novation keyboard. It's way better than the Akai MPK that I had before. I still like my Maschine studio but I've heard a lot of complaints about NI from other producers.
You shouldn't be giving instructions on soldering, you mangled that repair. You have cold solder joints which are brittle and wont last. Hopefully people watching this aren't ruining their gear thinking they can solder after watching this.
mozman98 I'd love to see your video on how to properly repair the USB on a Maschine. All the other videos I saw were pretty useless. I've repaired quite a few of these without any problems doing it this way.
Me repairing a Maschine has nothing to do with your soldering technique in this video. I've been soldering for over 30 years and I can tell you that you're doing it incorrectly. For one thing you're applying too much heat, you don't want to heat up a PCB that much, 5 seconds should be all you need to make those joints. You could have finished that first joint in one pass, instead you hit it again and possibly a third time judging by how it looked when the repair was finished. In your finished repair the solder is dull, not shiny. That means the joint is brittle and weak and wont last. Reading through the comments it already looks like one person has ruined their gear by watching this, hopefully others wont do the same. Your video has value but I hope people practice soldering and learn proper technique before attempting this or any other repair, especially on a PCB. For those attempting this please practice soldering before attempting a repair on your gear. A 25-30 watt iron should be all that's needed to make this repair or any other small PCB repair. If a higher wattage iron is used you risk damaging the components from too much heat. Make sure to keep the tip of the iron clean at all times, use a small wet sponge to do this.
Thanks for this. I'm having the same exact issue with mine and thought it was toast. My local music store told me that their tech wouldn't touch it and I'd have to call Native Instruments. I appreciate this!
