Hi Jeff. Glad you enjoyed the video. As beautiful as it is, the Devils Tower is in a very remote location. There are nearby places to stay but I don’t know enough to recommend any. (The Devils Tower Lodge has gotten good reviews on the Trip Advisor website) I drove to Devils Tower from Rapid City, South Dakota (a 200 mile round-trip drive.) I was in Rapid City because it’s convenient to Mount Rushmore, the Black Hills and Badlands National Park. Best - Leo
There are public lands where , if so inclined , and equipped , you can camp out ( weather permitting , of course ) . My son and I did so several years ago . We could not see the tower from our campsite , but while departing , by early morning light , it was a truly magnificent sight !!!
Forgive my ignorance, but I thought the Devil`s Tower was a model they built specifically for the movie for a long time.. I`m from Norway so it was not instantly recognizable as a national monument. If I ever were to visit the States I`d love to go there. The Tower has a really unique shape, and not to mention the cultural importance it holds. Great video!
We went to DT the summer after Close Encounters came out. Had a great time; one of the best family vacations ever. The DT Trading Post (seen at 1:15 and briefly in the movie) was much smaller then. I wonder if people still visit DT mainly because of the movie.
Thanks so much for uploading! I feel such an urge to go there and see this fascinating place myself it almost hurts :D you wouldn't believe it :D maybe one day I'll be there, I hope...
Last fall I was scheduled to do a loop through the Black Hills to Devil’s Tower to Cody WY on to Yellowstone down to DuBois, WY to Kaycee and finally Cheyenne and back to NM. However, some items came up at work. Hopefully I can do so this fall. This video has motivated me to keep my hopes up.
I just wanted to leave you a note to say that I really enjoyed your video. My wife and I are going to try and visit the area this June. Can you offer any advise on other places to see and do in the area? Can you recommend a hotel and or good places to eat? Cheers - Jeff
@@swirvinbirds1971 "debunked" LOL! Saying that is actually less credible than if you said nothing at all. Next you will call it a "conspiracy theory." Try explaining yourself. Irony is, the video is not even a few days old... yup, thoroughly debunked. You know when someone uses the word "debunked" they have no idea what they are talking about, or they would of just said that instead.
I really want to see this area also since movie in 1977 the movie name "Close Encounter of the third kind". You should watch the movie, That's good movie but I like the movie.
it was just plain awesome to see in real life...we were there in September 2015...well worth the drive out

There are many campgrounds around Devils Tower. Devils Tower KOA is probably the closest.
