Holy smokes. That green, intense blue and ultraviolet looked so incredibly vibrant! Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video up for all us cordovan geeks, Phil! I especially appreciated the explanation of grain/fiber directionality. It’s one of those shell characteristics that makes it’s coloration so dynamic and captivating.
Thanks so much for taking the time to do this video Phil! I absolutely love my all reverse #8 shell cordovan Fat Herbie and am working with Matt on a custom piece, so seeing these colors on video is super helpful! I know you showed the reverse on a couple, but would also love a video of all the reverse colors since you guys do so many reverse shell products now. Thanks again!
Ashland Leather Co. hi, you work with the best leathers no doubt! But why don’t you work with the designs and functionality like minimal design, thinning and softening the wallets etc.???!
Absolutely agree. I am also currently obsessed with natural shell. It is very similar to the whiskey but the whiskey has more of a golden yellow-brown tint.
Real nice video Phil! I didn’t realize that Shell Cordovan came in so many different colors. I do think that most people think of Color # 8 and perhaps Black as the only two colors that Cordovan comes in. I learned a lot as to the variety of colors that are available in the Shell Cordovan. Keep up the good work. Very interesting stuff. Ed
Hey, BravoBear -- The black shell cordovan does not tend to fade and change green. This is probably the only shell color that does not change much at all. The reverse side of the black shell does have that green color but the reverse shell tends to develop to be darker in color and more shiny
We are always trying out new colors at the tannery but we don't ever announce anything until they are reproduced on a production scale. It takes us a long while to develop new colors so don't hold your breath!
The marbled shells do patina but not as dramatically as the natural shells. The luster develops layers but the darker shades do not change as much as the lighter undertones.
These are so amazing Phil ! You can also send your wallet samples to few influencers like Robert. When those influencers make a video of it and write a blog about it, I think it would give your website valuable traffic and sales. I see abt 10 influencers/ users talking about Ashland products.

Thanks, Stephanie! The color directionality is freaky, huh?

Hi Mike -- Great suggestion. I'll make some more content on the reverse shell stuff. It is awesome and gets SO nice with regular use

The whisky color is absolutely gorgeous. I wish Allen Edmonds had this color for their Shell Cordovan line of shoes.

Hi, Ed! Glad you were able to get some info out of this!
That black marble is amazing! Thanks for the vid
Thanks for checking it out, Dixie!
Beautiful pieces. My whiskey wallet got real dark real fast, its got good patina now. Can you explain how the marbled color is created?
The marbled effect is achieved by layering many stain coats of finish then scraping away randomly at it
Wow. Thank you. Lovely snippets of information. Hopefully sometime we'll get a longer, more comprehensive video.
Glad to hear that. I'd love to do another video -- what would you like to see in that?
@@AshlandLeather If it's not a trade secret, would love to see how they get down to the "shell" .
Will black age to look a little green? Old boots used to age like that and I’m looking to get that effect

Amazing! I love my black marbled cordovan
Thanks, Benjamin! They are all so nice...particularly the marbled
Hi... how it's smell? Could you describe it?
Will shell cordovan lose wax and dry out over time due to bloom?
In my experience, no it doesn't.
Wow color 4!
I just got on the notification list for "Mahogany shell cordovan reverse" in Johnny the Fox. Any idea on the wait period? Please let me know.
Disregard that, I changed my mind by the end of the day and chose the Johnny the Fox in full cordovan! Absolutely excited to see and hold it!!
Very cool video!
Thanks, Joseph!
You should call the green shell "Peacock". Amazing work man!
Awesome video! Love the ultraviolet and amaretto shell. Do you know if any new colors are in the development pipeline? Can't wait to see!

Curious the marbles shells as they patina would they darken similar to a natural shell?

Ashland Leather Co. Appreciate that info it’s good to know!
OMG. Intense Blue.
It's even better in person. Truly stunning.

Thanks for the encouragement, Rohit!
color 8 marble?? man that's a beauty, really!
It's spectacular. I have a new special color #8 marbled we just finished up. Video of it coming in a few weeks
Amaretto 👌
I always wondered why my fat herbie outer shell was a different shade than the inner shell at the same angle. Now i know haha
It's trippy!
Superb
