  • We get lots of questions on what woods are best for flutes and the differences in the woods we offer.
While specialty woods have their limits and quirks you will find they have a bright and beautiful tone due to the vibration bouncing off a hard surface, you will find that cedar offers a warmer tone being that it is a softer and more adaptable wood.
Small things like the density of the wood can make all the difference in how the flute handles, do you want your flute for travel or perhaps a beautiful piece to stay home?
These are a few things to consider when selecting the perfect wood for your flute. Hope this video is able to help you consider the different woods and their unique properties.

Dear Mr. Martinez! I was blessed to encounter you in 2009 at the gorgeous Native American Art Museum adjacent to the Visitor's Center in Grand Tetons National Park. At that time, I had a most unusual and powerful emotional response to your offerings, and ended up accompanied by your exquisite creation, "Fire Horse", yellow cedar, key of A, that you'd hand-painted in traditional overlaid style. Bison hair, macau feathers at the "bridle". I adore him and have taken him with me on all of my adventuring... he sings his own sweet song, and I am finally stretching my skills to elicit more variety. Every time we play together, it is a Sacred Ritual for me, and I always feel deeply grateful to you for the mindful, intentional gifts that you give to this world through your instruments and teachings. At some point, I will reach out to you to consider a double or triple drone companion! All Gratitude, Blessings, and Beauty!

Very nice Guillermo, thanks for sharing this with us. I really love all the flutes you have made for me. Most of them are Cedar, Red and Yellow that sound amazing and I can take them anywhere with me and not have to worry so much. Thank you 🙏

I need a small but not too small drone flute. Preferably in the key of G. My area is western Washington. It most often is rainy in the fall and winter. Going on this info what would your average to low price be. Im a 65 year old woman and have somewhat a musical background such as piano, guitar, ukulele and my A flute. I love playing and learning new instruments, but my very low income doesn't allow for much, but i can try to save for one.
