This was priceless for me. The only video of the refinery on PA Route 8 in Rouseville I hav ever seen. My grandmother lived in the second house up the hill and we were always down by the tracks in the early Sixties, watching the Pennsylvania Railroad EMD "covered wagons" hauling freight between Buffalo and Pittsburgh. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Sam Gordon. He was a familiar voice in the area for a long, long time. His brother had a Tradio shirt on. You used to hear some interesting things on Tradio sometimes, Lol. Good memories and good times.
I was wondering that too. Haven’t seen a train on south side in years. Pennzoil was still in operation so prior to 2002 I think and the sidewalks don’t have the brick in them and street lights can’t remember what year that was done now.
No. This starts out on the South Side basically across From the post office toward the Allegheny. We crossed the Wye Bridge into Sivert and proceeded Northwest toward McDonalds and the Holiday Inn. Continued North and across Oil Crewk and into Rouseville and the Pennzoil refinery. We then proceeded back to where we started. If we had continued west under the Star Street and Veterans Bridges and past the Oil City Marina. That is area that is the Justus Recreational Trail heading south down the Allegheny River Valley past Franklin, Kennerdell and Emlenton.
Part of the rail line north of the bridge over Oil Creek ( by Dollar General ) is a paved bike trail. It is paved up to the Mc Clintock #1 well, then becomes gravel / dirt road till it meets Rt. 8. north of Rouseville.
I loved the train master interview. Classic happy excited guy talking to the guy that wanted to be anywhere else

Sam was a “one-of-a-kind” - a true broadcast professional. Miss him.
The history we have in our area

The engineer said the engine was 26 years old, built in 1972, so that puts it at about 1998
back when Oil City was proud place to be.
Did they run out of oil in the city?
Is any part of this video on what is now the bike trail?
