How to install correctly the Aquila CD and CDL lute strings

  • The CD and CDL strings are made using a special synthetic rubber charged with thin copper powder.
    In order to install them properly, one should remember that a rubber always sticks on the nut and behaves in different way than a wound, a KF or plain gut string, that are stiffer and slippery (not for nothing do they make shoe soles out of rubber).
    The right procedure is to tune the string out of the nut-slot, stretch it and then, after stabilization, put it in into the slot and then tune the string.
    For further practical details follow this video and remember: on the very few cases of broken CD and CDL strings, almost 90% of them are due to wrong installation.
    Single strung theorbo: 5th, 6th; 7th strings: only employ the CDL types.
