great video. we have always tied bales down like that with a truckers hitch or as its known where we come from a "sows lug". never lost a load in all the time me and my dad and others round us have done it. Great to see the old school way.
Very well presented and a great way to show the youngsters how to do it properly, ive done it that way all my life and never lost a load in over 40 years. 👍
Thumbs up, nice video. I've done loads of those in my time. Also called a Dolly or Kinch knot depending on which part of the country you are in. The rachet straps make life easy these days.
Your right i have never seen it done like that thankyou for sharing i might need to wach that part a few times but will give it a go its a handy thing to know
Cheers for that gramps 😉😆. Funny enough we usually use them to pull trees or stumps over. Looks like a good stack of straw in and after this last weekends 'showers' I'd say you've done well getting it in.
I thinks it's another one of them dying arts. Less of the gramps, you'll be no spring chicken lol.Sheds full now should have enough, average of 6 bales acre, not bad for spring barley
Very interesting... My grandad drew bags of peat and fert using rope and he always said you can go as fast as you want on the straight roads but know your bends
Great video as usual ,yes i have tied many loads down with ropes using a variation of your knot but basically same as your way also used double loop over if rope was a bit oily ;found with single loop over it could slip so mainly used the double ,all us older guys need to pass these skills on before it becomes a forgotten art .
I've had a few older lorry drivers be surprised when I use a rope. Great video again.

What variety was spring barley you grew this time decent crop of straw for type of year it’s been 👍
Nice stacking
Nice to see the old way of roping down again but as for tightness I'm sorry but a strap will pull way tighter than any rope!
I'd just known them as truckers knots, good to know the proper name.
Great thats how I do them other than rope broke the other day 😬
No one to teach the young lads the knots either as most fellas just use straps now
done many of these nots in my time. also called pigs ears!!!
Where is that field then Geoff? Great drone shots by the way.
