    I was expecting it to be louder for some reason... The loudest parrot I've been around was a Sun Conure.

    For people that want a pionus (apartment)
    I have a blue headed pionus, in an apartment, and ill tell you this video is a little deceiving. This is a bronze winged pionus, which is probably the most difficult pionus to acquire depending on where you are located. A white capped or blue headed is what youll be getting (most likely) if youre getting a pionus. The pionus has a “sun worship” ritual. Around 8:30 to 9 am my blue headed screams (used to be around 7 am). His scream is quite loud actually, it sounds like a siren when he really gets going. In the apartment the sound reverberates and im positive the neighbours can hear him. Strata laws in my building protect my parrot thankfully so they can all kiss my ass. Those people are far more annoying to me than my beautiful bird. Throughout the rest of the day, pionus’ generally are chill birds that observe more than they do play. However, they can have sudden bursts of energy for sure. They are content sitting on your shoulder and just being around you (their flock). You dont really have to play with them and give them hours upon hours of undivided attention like lets say an African grey. And remember thats birds have different personalities like us humans, they are very intelligent. Good luck!

      I am looking into getting a pionus. I live in an apartment also but I live in the city so noise is unavoidable lol. How long does his sun ritual last?

      @@ItsJustPreshus I live in the city as well, in an apartment. Heres how i see it. At first his screaming bothered me, mostly because i was worried something was wrong or my bird was unhappy. Plus noise complaints would be annoying. I would suggest you familiarize yourself with your strata laws regarding noise and animals. Because in my building, sure to someone my bird could be annoying, but its legal. Because he screams at 9 am not 6 am. His fit of screaming could be anywhere from 2 minutes to 20. Usually not more than 10 mins. Now when he screams, its a part of my routine. I get a little worried now when he doesnt scream in the morning because then i know he might be in a bad mood. Parrots dont speak our language (for the most part) so they communicate how they can, and my boy sings to the sun. Who the hell am i or anyone else to stop him? This animal is innocent and has no capacity to hate or betray, hes a loyal friend for life. That in itself is worth everything, and renders the screaming unproblematic in my eyes.
      Ps: remember not all birds are the same. Like people they can behave differently.

    Wow, that's actually a pretty trill of a scream. It could just be the sound quality of the video, but I gotta say, although my Quinn (a BH Pi) generally likes to squeak in a quiet, ramble of a voice, he has this really, really loud and harsh squawk that he puts into play when he's frustrated and/or angry (as when I have been vacuuming too long or, unfortunately, when my parents visit....)! Yours has a lovely scream, in my humble opinion! :)

    I have never had the opportunity to have a Moluccan, but I have had a Macaw and she was loud, but not nearly as loud as a Moluccan. Those are definitely the loudest!

  • @fancigal
    @fancigal  14 років тому +2

    @PBuzo Yeah, I think she just gets nervous when it's windy. But she rarely ever screams like that in the house. The only time she does is when it's breeding season, which only, thankfully, happens once or twice a year. And even then she doesnt scream for very long, only when she cant see me. If I leave for a bit I put on some nature sounds of birds and she is totally fine.

    @PBuzo Thank you!! She is a sweetie. She is about 10 years old, I am not quite sure, her previous owners dropped her off at a bird store so I decided to pick her up... that was about a year and a half ago.

    @susaneharley haha, I figured I would put this up for the ppl interested in a Pionus but never heard them scream (and it actually is that trill)... Sometimes though I think she has a louder one when we dont pay attention to her. I can only imagine how much louder yours is compared to mine! My goodness! Funny yours doesnt like the vacuum, mine thinks its bath time when the vacuum is on! I actually have a video of that!

  • @fancigal
    @fancigal  14 років тому

    @PBuzo Not any that I have found, yet haha. She is a sweet girl, I think though she was raised at a kind of bird farm because she cannot fly properly, she is afraid of water, and she has a hard time trusting people, she never bites though, never, not even complete strangers. But now she is a happy healthy bird, sitting in her make shift nest on some eggs hahaa

      Elise W You don’t even know were they’re from and your accusing them. It’s not like every corner of the globe is jam packed with raptor, falcons, and eagles. Even then he’s a foreign prey item. Most predators go for prey they commonly feed upon. They’d only attack the parrot if it was flying or moving in anyway. Raptors pick out members of the group that show weakness, plus he’s next to a human. They’d think twice about batting some random bird when a humans next to it.
