  • Want a practical vehicle with a serious fun streak? Say ciao to the new Alfa Romeo Tonale. Plug it in and it’ll go 33 miles on electric power (that's an easy 10,000 miles annually). Quick and agile, Tonale can take on 50 cubic feet of cargo. Looks great too, though it will be mighty familiar if you’ve visited a Dodge showroom lately. Tom Voelk checks out a top spec Tonale Veloce with eAWD (because it’s the only way Alfa makes it.)

Great review - as always. I had a Stelvio for about 5 years and had literally NO problems with it. Even I was surprised. I finally parted ways with it because the dealer/service infrastructure wasn’t nearly as reliable as the car.

Yeah I know what you mean. It’s not necessarily that they are poorly built, more questionably engineered- such that if something does go wrong, it becomes unrepairable (e.g. having to pull the engine to change water pump and timing chain).

Well, at the time when I called it the "tone-al" it had just dropped and there were no resources like YT videos and such to reference. My calls and emails to FCA (at the time) went unanswered and I had to post the video. I had actually tracked it three different ways. I lost. These things happen.

I appreciate this Tonale review, much more fair than some others who dismissed as the toenail. Thank you, Martin and Tom! The quality of your videos is amazing. It helps me enjoy the PNW in general and Seattle specifically, all in 4k.

Thank you, Tom and Martin! Big fan of PHEVs here (I currently own Kia Sorento PHEV and Hyundai Ioniq PHEV), so this Italian PHEV package is quite appealing to me putting questionable reliability aside.

Thanks to Martin. Very well done as always. Off topic perhaps but I would love to see some content about rain sensing wipers. My very limited experience with them hasn't left a positive impression (Toyota and GM). They seemed to have no rhyme or reason to the logic. I wonder if there are some companies who do this better or worse than others. How well does the vehicle sense and clean a windshield on a car that's been sitting out in the rain? The toyota system often had false positives in infinite delay but then there were also times that, while raining, it seemed out to lunch and very nearly created a dangerous situation. The northwest seems like the ideal place to test this feature. Just a thought. Keep up the excellent content, I've yet to see one of your videos that I didn't enjoy.

A small request for those of us who live in the metric world. While the TP pack is more or less understandable - especially since you pointed out the size being similar to a carry-on suitcase, any reference to cubic feet leaves me perplexed and occasionally going to the web to translate into liters which is pretty universal outside of the US of A. Subtitles would more than suffice. Same goes for car dimensions, as the olde world or Asia have smaller roads and much smaller parking spaces which can be a make or break matter for many, i.e.,, here in Japan.

I was tempted but the nearest dealership is an hour and a half away from me and I don't want to have to take a day off from work to get the oil changed at the dealer and waste 3 hours driving there and back. I bought a Porsche Macan instead.

I love my Stelvio and also have a Hyundai Kona EV. The range of the EV is too variable. On a cold day, with heating, I lose 40% range. That crap! The Tonale seems to be a good compromise. Also, my Stelvio has been very reliable. I had a MK7 Golf, the Stelvio is definitely no worse than the Golf and drove a whole lot better despite the weight increase (Golf and Stelvio not in the same car segment).

front and rear light design is great. but, that's where my preference ends. think they still behind what toyota does with rav4 and their prime line. Am curious if you'll get the dodge to compare and if you do, make some references back to this.
enjoy your fact at the end of your videos.

We strongly considered one of these. Took a test drive where the salesman drove it super hard to show us how it handled in the twists, etc.. We of course drove it as well and he implored us to drive it hard and we did and we were impressed. Regardless, we didn't go with it because the dealer was somewhat unresponsive, had very little supply now/in future and we hate black interiors and that's effectively all you can get with it. I'll never understand "luxury" brands that either don't allow me to get something other than black for the interior or make their "performance" models only available in black...makes me feel like I'm buying a Nissan (sorry to offend the Nissan buyers).

The nearly identical design to the Hornet is a turn off. It dilutes the Alfa Romeo brand, demonstrates an attempted money grab by management. This reminds me of GM in the 2000s.
