*ALMOST* PERFECT? - Mazda MX-5 Miata - Review

- The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a living legend. A nimble, lightweight, two seater roadster that clocks in at a fairly affordable price is almost impossible to make in the year 2023. Yet, Mazda keeps up with tradition and offers one of the best sports cars in the world for enthusiasts to buy. With 181 horsepower the Miata might not impress on a spec sheet, but step behind the wheel and you will enjoy one of the most dynamically engaging vehicles to ever grace the roads.
But even the Mazda Miata isn't safe from inflation. This mid-trim soft top GS-P Miata clocks in at $44,465.00 CAD here in Canada. At such a price-point the wonderful steering, fantastic 6-speed manual and carefree roadster experience can't negate the drawbacks that come with the Miata: It's loud, small, and anything but practical. So, does a $45,000.00 Miata still make sense in today's economy, or do more practical choices such as the Hyundai Elantra N prevail over raw driving fun? Find out in today's review!

The Miata is back! Does the iconic roadster still make sense at today's price, or does the need for practicality make it less appealing?
I love the red....but come on Mazda, bring back a green or a yellow!
@@fortheloveofnoise More cars need to be available in yellow!
Some dealers marking them up to 38k isn't very appealing
@@woooose I bought one that's a little over a year old.....hard top, grand touring top of the line and paid $29,500....about $10k off MSRP. Had like 10,000 miles but looks brand new.
I'm on my 4th ND now. I started with the 16, didn't care for the color so went for a 17, the 19 came out with 181hp. but when the 23's came out with Napa leather, I had to have a 2023. With the 3 previous ones, I put a little over 80Kmiles on each with zero problems. You need to touch on the high dependability of these cars.
We generally don't talk about reliability unless we notice issues within our one-week test period with a vehicle. We want to ensure to give accurate, first hand information instead of sharing information that we cannot reliably check for accuracy ourselves. That being said, we do recommend that people check out sources like Consumer Reports if they have questions about the reliability of a specific model.
But we're glad to hear how much you love the ND! It's a fantastic car!
Nice review, but you left out a few key features of this car (and I own one of these): 50-50 weight balance , rear wheel drive, Bose speakers in the headrests, and note, the Brembo brakes are front wheels only, and superb, supple multi-link rear suspension and double wishbone front suspension like you find on some of the other best sports cars in the world.
I own a new Miata and it's the same one as in this review.I looked at the Rf but at that price of about 50k Canadian it just doesn't make sense when you can get a Toyota GR 86 for 35k Canadian.
Totally agree! The RF really doesn't add much benefit for a lot more money. Soft top is the way to go!
I'd have a used miata in my driveway right now if I could fit 😂😢
That's a bummer! How tall are you if I may ask?
@@GCCarsCA 6 5 worst part is I can squeeze into my buddy's one and got to witness it's glory on some mountain roads
You kids have no clue what 53 will feel like. But keep at it.
I’ll let you know how it feels in 20 years haha

A truly rigid coupe would make it perfect.
It’s pretty rigid. Use it as my daily. Drive it over my Porsches regularly.
A hardtop Miata would certainly be an interesting idea
@Rocketman200mph not rigid enough. I've owned a 997/993/Evora & 2 Elises. There's a very good reason some of us prefer the rigidity of a fixed roof. Can't stand boy flex. Every MX5 suffers from it.
You’re either:
- flexing that you’ve owned the cars you listed
- you’re forgetting the fact the Miata is the most raced car in the world (meaning, it can be stiffened enough for racing)
- you’re forgetting the point of one
- all of the above
@@carloscanizares4699 nah. You're just annoyed it doesn't have serious rigidity. That's the compromise with a vanity drop top. Mx5 coupe would be a lot more serious of a driver's car. Your ego got bruised by facts.
Its nice too bad its not in automatic
You can get the Miata as an automatic!
Aren't there already enough Canadians doing car reviews.
Aight sorry let us move to Mexico. Like what kind of comment is this? 😂
Aren’t there already enough negative people making negative comments on UA-cam? 😂🤦♂️
