Amazing Documentary, I love my darby Raygun, great form and function, great to see RAM making functionals now, and guns at that. He's really forcing himself as a person out his comfort zones, much appreciation. Maybe one day we'll see him taking a dab and shooting an ak-47 at some targets !! =)

as a lampworker and a fire arm lover this is so amazing if I could do sculpture like this its all I would do in fact I know what my first weapon will be. However it is continually called a weapon when it is however it really is a tool like a torch or a shovel. how you wield this tool is what classifies it as a "killing machine" or a paper weight.

I think the older guy's a bit confused.... As a gunsmith/aspiring glass blower/former Infantryman/conceptual designer, maybe I can shed some light on this for him...... The strangest thing about firearms isn't their deliberate aesthetic beauty in the face of their intended purpose.... Instead, it's the aesthetic beauty our minds create around an object that specifically throws aesthetic to the wind in order to provide more efficiency... After all, the ornately-carved and gold-encrusted firearms you see today are doomed to a life of mediocrity, sitting on a mantle or in a box all their life, until the collector sells it to another collector who will in turn place it on a mantle or in a box... Firearms are NOT designed to be beautiful; they're designed to be tactically proficient.... Thus, instead of any sort of beauty being purposefully added to a design as in almost every other object designed today (pretty cars sell better than ugly cars, etc), the beauty is only a side-effect of our human minds creating an aesthetic preference between configurations. An AK is steel and wood, an AR is mostly aluminum and plastic... Kel-Tecs have a hideous waffle pattern to their grip areas, where Glocks and most other pieces use a tight checkering pattern (those tiny pyramid-shaped bumps)... Some manufacturers use a picatinny rail system or keymod/m-lok on their foregrips, others use slick-sided wood, plastic, aluminum, steel, et. al., and it's the end user who chooses which firearm they like best... The Winchester 1894 was designed first and foremost as a hunting/ranch weapon, something to put food on the table, scare off intruders, and kill anything/body trying to mess with the livestock... Today, it is seen as one of the most beautiful and sought-after lever-action rifles ever created, due to its design, durability, and accuracy. The rifle was one of the most celebrated deer hunting rifles in America, and even over 120 years later, is still one of the best deer rifles you can find... The 1911 pistol is also one of the most sought-after handguns in the world, spawning an entire industry behind it and thousands of unlicensed third-world copies produced daily. It is still in service with many NATO militaries around the world. It was designed for .38 Super, but had to be redesigned for .45acp, as the latter provided more knock-down power from a single round. Today, just like the 1894, the 1911 is still carried by a plethora of concealed-carriers and open-carriers. Again, over 100 years have passed since its design, and the 1911 is still a very viable weapon... Although your knowledge of firearms is obvious, I fear you've missed Robert's point. You mention a bunch of jargon about different firearms, yet your point didn't seem to be clear.... He said himself that they're designed to kill other individuals. But he sees the beauty in them. Your point seems to be that guns shouldn't be made pretty. I don't think he's saying that. I think he's saying he can see the lines, the "Architecture" if you will, that attracts people to guns so much. So, I guess I'm confused at your point. Thanks for watching!

But, he said something to the effect of "what is it about human beings where they make these objects to kill other human beings with, yet they make them beautiful...." My point was that they're never meant to be beautiful, and in fact there is almost no aesthetic put into such designs, unlike most anything else humankind produces, a most glaring comparison can very well be made versus this very glass piece - the design is 90% aesthetic over quite rudimentary functionality... I agree with him, firearms do have a certain inherent beautiful aesthetic... But, I am not certain he realizes how little aesthetic is intentionally put into a firearm design... As for the "beautiful but deadly" thing, a well-kept patch of nightshade is far more "beautiful but deadly" than a firearm, mostly because a firearm cannot harm anyone or anything on its own... But, that's just my opinion...
how much did this piece sell for im thinking above 30K all these new star ships and such which are nice but nothing like this and those star ships are selling for over 50k which is kind of shocking if this piece is under the price of the mother ships.
