  • There are trailblazers and then there are trail followers. Limba Ram is one such trailblazer who blazed a new trail for Indian archery. To really appreciate Limba Ram's talent, one should go into his life narrative, the former World No. 4. Using his bamboo bow and arrow to hunt birds was his first experience with archery as a child. Following his selection in the SAI trials, which took place in the Rajasthani district of Udaipur, he was flown to Delhi for a rigorous training camp. This marked the beginning of his ascent in the field of international archery. He qualified for the 1988 Olympics as an Indian archer, had already won National Junior and Senior Championships, and had advanced to the World Archery Championship quarterfinals before turning twenty.
The fact that he was tied heading into the elimination round of the Olympics in Barcelona and lost out on the bronze medal was one of the most painful experiences of his life. By shooting more 10s than he did, his opponent was declared the winner. Additionally, he holds the distinction of having tied a world record at the Asian Archery Championships in 1992. Without a doubt, Limba Ram ranks among the best archers from India that have ever played.
