In the Spanish army, since the fifteenth century the passage of the troops is marked with drums, and the Holy Week processions copied the system, although with a slower rhythm than the army. The rumble of the drum marks the rhythm and corresponds to the foot left.

I absolutely love the traditions that are honored and respected. Can't wait to be there in the Fall.

The appealing charm of Spain for us is the relaxed lifestyle, combined with the great weather and food. We are looking at taking early retirement within the next three years and settling in Spain, looking at villas in Almeria. Brexit/Covid has certainly complicated the process of permanent residency, but it's still possible hopefully! Great channel by the way!🙂

The procession on Good Friday is amazing.
    So somber and moving.
You certainly know it’s Easter in Spain.

The Holy Week it's not only in Spain, started here and it's celebrated in a lot of countries like México, Guatemala... Even in the Philipines.
The heart of the Holy Week are the Brotherhoods. The first ones were created during the Middle Age, some of them associated with some professions, others, with a special task. In an age without a social care, they were a big help for centuries.
The Holy Week parades started officially when the Catholic faith decline during the first of the XVI century, the Catholic Church decided to moved the statues from inside the churchs to the people in the streets. And, who were the ones to had to organized, moved and protect the statues? The Brotherhoods.
Also, all the Brotherhoods had their "sacred holder", a statue of Christ and other of Mary usually, sometimes more. It are the ones that you can see in the parade. Despiste we can see the Brotherhoods in the Holy Week parades, they are working all the year, because they must to follow their original purpose: help to the society.
If you want to know more about the uniform or others things, ask me.
