for anyone who is somewhat confused on the difference between velocity(vector) and speed(scalar) ; here is what helped me understand it:
if you are in your car and you start driving forward at 60 mph, that's your speed. and if you stop then quickly reverse to thirty miles per hour you are going backwards, but you don't have a Negative speed, just a speed, no matter what direction it is in.
however if you do the same thing and plot it in a Position Vs. Time graph you will see it going in a negative direction, indicating it is returning to the direction of the origin.
long story short vector quantities such as velocity help people understand the rate at which something moves, but also its direction and meaning.
I'm still confused but that you
@@a_j_all_day7382 Velocity requires direction (some people word this as "velocity depends on position" meaning the object's point of origin -- imagine a graph and start at zero); speed doesn't. As a result, velocity can be a positive or negative number. Going backwards? Negative velocity. Going forward? Positive velocity. Positive or negative, it doesn't matter because you're still in motion. Speed, on the other hand, is strictly positive. Once your speed is at zero, you're no longer in motion.

Yo this was a school project I had a year ago. I already failed but thank you
I love this guy so much. Patients and persistent. Stop hatin
Keiwan Thomas lol haha
Now I'm that guy on youtube doing the classic "who's got a midterm tomorrow!?". DUDE! .... thanks man, videos have SAVED my ass!

@@almuhandis1359 1 day later I am here to tell you I just started my semester
@@almuhandis1359 lol thanks
Great explanations thank you. I have a great teacher, but due to time restrains he can't teach everything step-by-step, and having Mr. Anderson (sorry if I spelled it wrong), explain why something is the way it is really helps me understand the more complicated problems.
I swear you are amazing! Your videos helped me so much in AP biology last year and this summer i'm taking physics and i'm so glad I get to watch your videos again! thanks!!!
When did you use mathematics in biology.
This guys is the John Green of math and I love him. He does Chem too and he’s like my side guy if Green being weird or for extra stuff. Love this guy been watching him in school for yesrsssssss
i don't know if this is weird but this guys check bones are amazing
Lol
His jaw line could cut diamonds
+Harrison Wheeler Well, if it's weird, we're weird together. I also thought this.
+Harrison Wheeler LMFAO. i almost spit my drink out. you win!
but isnt it cute when sometimes asians have perfectly round faces without diamond cutting jawline or defined cheekbones? sorry if my question is also weird
You saved me from failing IB physics! Now I can really have even some chances to pass!! Thank you :) more people like you, thank you! :)
he explains this better than my teacher
-every student ever
but so true
ikr
+NippleFailure Ikr, my teacher teaches as if we already knew what he was talking about. Gives no time to indepthly explain it.
Hhh
Dezeya my teacher doesn’t explain shit... goes through the slides hella fast and doesn’t give time for questions
I got a 100 on my test because of him
thanks for doing this, im accidently in an honors pyshics ( some mistake in the computers from what they told me) and now i understand this thanks
Anyone scrolling through the comment section while watching??
No, we are learning😅
I love this teacher's voice and tone. Very clear. Sounds like young Matt Damon.
I find it soothing and reassuring!
Thank you soo much for putting this up!!! i been failing badly in Physics becouse the teacher doesnt teach it welll and no one understands it. This made me understand clearly of whats need to be done!! thank you!!
Thank you so much! You explained it more simpler then my science teacher! Your explanation will definitely help pass my test!
Really good, it's important sometimes to go back to basics and learn this very well. Many thanks and greetings from Argentina
You are an amazing teacher, this help me a lot in understanding what's the difference in velocity and acceleration.. Thank you so much..
Amazing videos man! I bombed my first two quizes for grade 11 physics because I was sick for three days, missed tons of homework and lessons. Didn't understand anything! You really helped me out and made me understand what I was really learning thanks alot!.
When objects fall it's not because of gravity. It's due to density. If something is heavier then the air it falls down. If its lighter then the air it'll float. As we've all been taught. Buoyancy, density & water surface tension are very interesting. Anyone who isn't familiar should try to check it out sometime.
Sir, u have explained the concept of velocity with very nice illustrative example - Mr Usain Bold superb u have creative mind in teaching the things to the persons who are NOT aware of the knowledge about velocity in Physics .
Thank you so much for also making a physics section on your channel. I really enjoy all of your videos.
Haha, i can honestly say these videos are more productive than my physics lessons at school
This is very helpful as I love to refresh my memory. Love the sciences. You are an excellent teacher. Your style is clear and concise. I watch a bunch of videos throughout each day. They are especially great since I have a two year old and I can still keep up as I love to read and learn. Thanks so much!
wonderful videos by Mr.andersen on AP-chemistry,physics.but didn't yet seen biology
Another great video from Prof. Andersen :) His videos have gotten me through my Biology; Anatomy/Physiology, and Physics classes...what would I do without him??
Great Video, so helpful, thorough and clear. A nice perfect pace as well.
Hi, love your videos. Can I ask how you make them? Do you use a tablet or stylus?
That was extremely helpful. I've been trying to find out for weeks why velocities are squared. Now the kinetic energy and Einstein's E=mc2 equations make perfect sense. So 1m/s^2 = 1(m/s)/s. Thanks for elucidating that for me.
You are honestly an amaaaazing teacher.
Now i'm in love with physics! you are one in a million! i can now understand what this whole thing was about :D thank you so much! wish u could teach at my school
You Mr Anderson just made it easier for me .. you sir is Awsome ;D
I always failed my Pure Physics exams like 3 exams straight from January till now without a single exam passes... Until I met ur channel through my chemistry teacher whom showed us ur video on calculating moles and here I am watching this physics video on velocity which I sucks the most and guess what?! I UNDERSTAND so much better than my teacher and plus my mid-year exams the 1st out of second most major exams is around the corner like next week, makes me well prepared after watching ur videos
i like this. i was a bit scared at first approaching the topic and now its fine
I LOVE U BOZEMAN U ARE THE REASON I SURVIVED AP BIO AND U WILL BE THE REASON I SURVIVE AP PHYSICS 1AND 2
Rohith Raman simp
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH! this helped a bunch, and you had awesome visuals too! Really appreciate it Mr. Anderson! :D
Thanks a bunch! It was EXTREMELY helpful
Hello Mr. Anderson, it seems in this ur examples of velocity is like u ar talking about speed and distance which are scalar but u keep on talking about velocity which goes with displacement. I really respect u and ur presentation please I need clarification on this matter. You are really one of my mentors
This was well done. Thank you.
Its a very good way to learn about speed velocity and acceleration
+Bozeman Science correct me if i am wrong but i think i can see two problems here one your saying V equals acceleration which i don't think is correct and 2 metres per second should be metres per second SQUARED since it is acceleration
Thanks for the video, helped to reinforce and review my knowledge on the topics.
Hi Mr Anderson! I'm not from the US but I find all your short videos helpful with revising these basic first-year university concepts. I know you're doing videos of physics topics (like this one) but are intending on publishing videos about electric fields, capacitors and lenses?
i got a question. According to the question at 8:20 ,what is the direction for the velocity?
if an object is move at a=0 ms-2, is that object stopped moving? and how about v=0
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! You explain everything so well. You're so amazing, I'm incredibly jealous of all your students.
Would it be possible to do a SAT Subject Test review for Bio and Chem? Thank you so much!
Really Helpful!! I just started to study about physics in school and i dont know whats velocity and acceleration is!!! THANKS!
Thank u for this great video its really superb
thank you sir. much appreciated! you have a gift! you're a great teacher
Thank you so much! my physics teacher forgot about giving us some background about velocity before she gave us the homework but it was already time for the next class so she just gave us the homework and say it's due tomorrow. At least this helps me out a bit to understand the homework
Great video, was very helpful before an exam :)
very nice teaching ways... keep it up and upload more and more.....
You are a god. Thank you so much for making these videos
Mr Anderson you truly are a really great teacher but if the object is moving downward isn't it a negative sign and a positive for the opposite?
I really enjoy your video they explained this better than my physics teacher
Hello, just a quick question how come you didn't get 16.6 m/s for the last question and you said it was 26.9m/s (the conversion of 60km/h) because didn't you have to divide it by 3.6? I am probably wrong but just asking.
Thank you so much Sir. it helps me a lot in my physics teaching.
Your video was so Helpful , They are really good, Finally Understand :D
Instantaneous velocity is impossible because change is measured by a finite change. Therefore, instantaneous rate of change or velocity does not actually exist.
I LOVE YOU MR. ANDERSON. I WATCHED ALL YOUR AP BIO HELP VIDEOS TOO. YOU'RE AMAZING KEEP ON MAKING VIDS
Speed is a scalar quantity(These means its just a magnitude)
while.Velocity is a Vector quantity. Velocity=Speed and its Direction. Here we are just assuming we are moving in a positive direction
my textbook has the example of Usain Bolt as well 😂
i thought your name was labia 👌👈
Dr. Donald J. Trump MD, MscPussy haha
awesome! finally I can understand. thanks for your help
Great videos!
Good explanation! what if you have a function instead of numbers?
and the best teacher award goes to.......
Nice video very informative as well as easy to understand
Very well explained.
YOU'RE AMAZING :O MIND=BLOWN Thankyouuuuu! xxxx
you are a good teacher. .
Best teacher ever:) thanks a lot:)
Thank you for this great video :)
you are simply just thee best
Thanks sooooooooooooooooooooooo much ...helped me a lot
Wow man I had never understand better than in school
A few years back, an American spaceship to Mars, had failed just due to poor synchronization of metric and imperial measuring systems ... very sad indeed ! And yet its is mind boggling why Americans even today are still so adamant about not making peace with the metric system !!
Why when he uses the definition of velocity he isn't using mf-mi, why x instead of just m of meters? Also, are formulas dependent variable divided by independent variable?
Mr.Anderson where did you get the results for each segment of the 2008 olympic 100m finals? I wanted the same breakdown of the 9.58 race?!...its for a physics project on motion and Graphs
Helpful! But on the car problem, how did you convert 60 to 26.9 m/s?
+Elizabeth Barron He used the conversion miles to hour to meters per second. First start with what your given 60miles/1Hour then using the conversion 1mile=1609.34meters get your meters value. Next convert with 1Hour=3600seconds. then simplify the fraction 96560meters/3600seconds and you get 26.9M/s
Thanks for posting videos for stupid teenagers like me,slacked in highschool and managed to get into an engineering school..I don't even study physics in highschool as I took biology
last minute studying, thanks dude :)
u are the best teacher
where do u teach...
Im just learning this for fun but how did you convert miles per hour into meters per second
km/ hour divided by 3.6 gives you m/s
m/s multiplied by 3.6 gives you km/h
Allie R after the video I found out for every mile it is 2.6.... Metere per sec
Oh sorry, I gave you km/h! Not miles, sorry!
Yeah lol
with what program do you film what you are doing? with what program do you draw with the blue paint?
Thanks man, really helped me understand!
when you had the table about bolts record were you figuring the specific equation?
I have a question how do you get the 26.9,m/s?
What app do you use to create your videos?
Hello Mr. Anderson- The Matrix
In aviation, velocity is expressed in terms of Ground Speed. I suppose True Airspeed is an expression of speed.
oh how i've missed you mr. anderson. =)
time to study physics again.
How did u get meter per second from the mile per hour in the last par?
Hi sir,I've been watching your videos for a while now, but i think i am lost! Can you arrange the videos on its proper sequence? Well still thanks
how did he get 26.9 m/s out of 60 mph
Thank you so much! Very helpful :)
I was here from Mrs. Sobas' class
Amazing. Helped a lot. Thanks :)
How does 60mph convert to 26.9 m/s?
+Brandon Kelly
60 mi/h (times) 1 h/ 3600 sec (times) 1609.34 meter/1 m = 26.82 m/s
really good. respect. and thanks
12:36
That acceleration will only apply until you hit terminal velocity then your speed will eventually stay constant
Sorry my English is not so good, what is the diffrence between speed and velocity?
great explanation. thank you. :)
