Cool concept and will be interesting to see where they can take it! The guy is passionate! Thanks for sharing. The street rod and hot rod market could be a good spot for this.
We would love to see a plug-and-play chassis/powertrain solution used by shops all over the world to keep classics running reliably for generations more. Adam is a firecracker and meeting him was a highlight of the 2024 Electrify Expo for us. -Producer Tim
This is awesome. As I go through junkyards I said to myself “if there are electric platforms to put some of these old cars on that would be nice”. I can see how this is possible for body on frame, unibody’s seem a bit more challenging. If I’m not off didn’t many OEM used a specific frame/chassis setup for multiple vehicles. I saw a 50’s-60’s Thunder Bird and imagined how nice it would be if converted to an EV. Those older vehicles seem like ideal candidates to me. I would love to see this be an option. Thanks for the info.
Interesting. So this guy wants to essentially make and sell electric "crate chassis-powertrains" for converting legacy ICE collector cars. Kind of like a "crate motor" but the whole undercarriage, suspension, battery, motors and circuits. Seems like he has a grasp of what's needed and how to meet the needs. 1st challenge is repeatedly referring to "x billion cars on the road" as market potential; >99% of those will be crunched, recycled and in landfills. Even though Toyota has long-lived cars, nobody is going to spend ~$35,000 to electrify a 10~ 20 year old Camry or Celica, Lexus, or the vast majority of the cars in existence. That applies to most vehicles, even beloved family heirlooms. How many people actually buy a new engine or transmission to fix their "old faithful", which would cost ~10% of what he's talking about? Sorry, but the potential market is only the "collector cars", which is quite small. But even collectables are split into Restorations and Rest-o-mods. The Restorations want nothing changed, even the screws and bolts, while the Rest-o-mods vary all over, but realize that it's just a fun hobby car they can show off and they'll never get the $$$ they put into it back. They can't exactly "show off" the chassis, battery and electric motors, though. Maybe... Has he talked to eccentrics like Bricklin or Fisker or one of the "car guys" like Leno? Maybe one of the Rap-Hip-hop millionaires, they have a bunch of $$, and like to show off. Good Luck.

You're thinking about cars that already have good suspension, engines & trans. I'm thinking about cars/bodies without. There are a *lot* of people who *ask* their local custom shop about doing an electric resto-mod, but most shops simply won't touch it. Ones that do will charge $50k or more. I'm guessing he wants to get these chasses to shops for $25k or less, meaning the shop can charge $10k for the body swap and keep it close to $35k. The performance they get (600HP instant torque, regen brakes, adjustable suspension) would cost more to deliver in ICE engine upgrades. Globally, this could grow to 20k to 50k chasses per year. The beginning of volume manufacturing. The Former "Big 3" need to convert an old factory for this company. There are already factories making body panels for certain classics. I can see a guy in his 20's spending $70k on a vintage-looking Mustang with all new safety & drivetrain. Give people car loans for these.
@@Nphen Sounds like you think you've got it "figured out"...so Go For It! Minor problem about those 20's guys: they're barely making payments on their games and internet connection bill.
Send this guy to Sandy Munro! Get Chrysler, Ford or GM to convert one of their closing factories into a joint-venture that produces "new custom classics" using new classic-styled body panels right on top of these chasses. Folks mad at the Mach E can get a '69 Mustang with no smoke & no noise. Okay, I know those guys like smoke & noise for some reason, but I love classic styling and value my lungs, guys! If you talk to them, a lot of those old guys realize that pollution is bad and that it would be nice to have a classic they can just jump into and drive off, no worries about carburetors or breakdowns.

Edison motors competition or collaboration? One major scale issue is legality of making a quasi new car without airbags... This will limit scale unless DOT cooperates.
Thank you for this content. Interesting how Zero Labs custom-makes the batteries.

Thanks for great content. Wonder if such business is possible in Europe with stricter regulations.
That is well beyond our area of expertise. -Producer Tim
Love this!

It'll be interesting to see how this developes.

Maybe with more subscribers you will be able afford new pants.
Maybe. -Producer Tim
Cool, but some of the rhetoric was ridiculous e.g. the government is not going to stop you from driving an ICE classic car.
