Massey Harris 90 combine with International WD-9 tractor

- We were fortunate to have gotten all caught up that harvest and actually had some spare time for a project. So we were able to combine some wheat that we had left for the old girl. Commentary creds go to the old man! Then to really get all the old stuff going, we use an International WD-9 tractor to pull the little hopper wagon. Like the video says, we just go the tractor running that summer.

That old girl is a beaut. We had one just like that when I was a kid back in the 70s. I can even remember the straight cut kit that came with it. Just drop the pick up and add a batt reel and a few twisty belts and bob's your uncle you could straight cut. Back then my dad would seed wet spots later in the spring when it dried up more. The low spots would be too green to swath so they would be left standing and then cut straight later with the 90 special on straight cut detail. Man the memories that vid brought back. I can't believe that thing still runs - thats a special piece you have there.

That looks like a pretty large combine for it's day.
At one time I believe Massey-Harris was the gold standard for combines, I have a Massey-Harris self-propelled Clipper I hope to get operable some day.
That Chrysler industrial engine was a thing of beauty to listen to . I don't remember having to watch the fuel use as much as later on machines that replaced it .
I got that one beat, bought back my grandfather's farmall for $5 from the scrappers. Got it 90% restored.
Loved listening to that Chrysler Industrial bark at the load! Man, what can you get for even a hundred bucks these days, but a working combine for 25?! Awesome, and thanks for not letting the scrap guy take it.

Boy did this bring back memories. My dad had a Cocksutt Sp112. Bought it in 1956. Combined till he passed away. Straight pip. no muffler. i loved that sound letting her buck...Thanks for the vid
what a super display. I grew up on a farm and raised by my grandparents. he was a manager so I got to do lots of things.
I left the country in 1957 for the big city but I remember one time I got to run a combine for a few minutes and as a kid it was fun.
I know it was a massey Harris but have no idea what year but it was only a couple years old.
They used to put me on a small 4 cylinder case doing raking on the hay. The only one I could run because it was the only one I could reach the pedals.
I know there was a couple WD9's on the farm. lots of memories.
We used to have an old 90, but alas, it was destined for the scrapper. Very cool to see it running!
Growing up on a farm in South Eastern South Dakota my neighbor had one of these, we had a John Deere 55. Memories.......
we had the same combine and we used it till the early 90's nice video! brought back a lot of good memories
ditto - first combine I ever drove as a kid.....don't think it was used beyond the 70s. Someone did a great job of keeping that old girl maintained - can't believe it still runs.

As a kid growing up in northern Alberta, we used super 92's, great little combines.
I left the farm in 64 at 16 and never saw either of these machines. I am from SE Missouri and we had a few MH tractors around but not combines and lots of Farmalls but no W series. Lots of Ms, Hs and 400s. Lots of JD combines and I never saw grain cut and windrowed we just used headers and cut it as we gathered it. Thanks for the video it was great seeing those machines working.
Nice, I've got a 1959 MF 82 special. It always did produce a cleaner sample than the new combine.

Great , bought back some good memories, I ploughed a lot of acres on a SUPER WD9 INTER, could really pull hard and cheap to run .
We had one like that in n day in the 60s we always got the crop harvested
We took off 605 acres with a Massey 90 on year. Took some long days. Sure liked the sound of that Chrysler 6 snarling through a straight pipe. Sounds like yours could use a tune up, but it's running pretty good just the same.
I love the sound of the old Massey's. We used the super 92's.

My grandpa had one of these back in the 50s as well as a John Deere Clipper. First combines my dad and uncle ever ran as kids. Upgraded to a Massey 410 later on and I believe that was the first combine they had that had a cab of some sort on it. A lot different than the 2388 and pull type 1682 I run today. People say the 1682 is outdated but with the 7140 Magnum running it, it'll keep up with the 2388 easily. Simple and easy to set too. I swath all my crops, so I don't even mind the fact of having a pull type. You in Saskatchewan too?

We had a 1482 that a snoopy or "anteater" pulled it with and then later on a 1680. The reason it'll keep up to a 2388 is axial rotors. The rotor size really didn't change much (if you were on an 80 series). the pull-types also had more grain capacity than the self-propelled ones. As long as you had the PTO power to feed the pull-types, they'd hammer the product through. Especially for malting barley, nothing comes close to axial-flow. The new stuff though with twin rotors and all the bells and whistles; yah, those are some nice machines. Expensive though...

My grandpa had a super 27 MH similar to the 90 MH . The electric header lift was a problem though ,

@@farm3067 I don't know if you have it but if your covered machine shed has space that old girl deserves a spot out of the elements.
Would this model have been in use in the early 60s? My Uncle had a combine similar to this but I remember it as an International Harvester or McCormik. Is it possible there was a brand similar to this but not a MH ?

@@farm3067 My dad used to have [i think] a Case pull type with it's own power and a WD-9 but it did not have power steering.
