Lime (Ca(OH)2 hidrated or pure CaO) is used to stabilize clay soils on road or building foundations. It has to be well mixed to the clay. So I guess interacts and fill that gap between the Aluminium layers in this case. But how does the so called pozzolanic reaction happens?
