Om¡.
I am B. Suresh Kumar, Director of the above shared Sitar documentary "GOURD TO CHORD." Actually I am surprised to see my film here. Firstly, I thank Xavi Ganjam from the bottom of my heart for sharing this Documentary Film. I made this film in 2016 and till date there was no such recognition or appreciation. But, I am very confident about my film that, it will get noticed one day. I thank MITA NAG, BISHOKE SIL, TROILEE DUTTA for their extraordinary support in the making of this film. I thank my organization FILMS DIVISION , GOVT OF INDIA for having faith in me and producing this film.
I DEDICATE THIS DOCUMENTARY TO ALL THE CRAFTSMEN, WHO ARE STILL IN THE PROFESSION OF MAKING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, BUT NOT GETTING WHATEVER THEY DESERVE.....!
Best Regards
B Suresh Kumar
Namaste ¡¡ You wellcome

“You know the Bengali language is sweet and so too their sitar play. I guess you would have heard the sitar play of the great Sitarist Pandit Ravishankarji. I heard the star concert of Pandit Ravishankarji at IIT, Kharagpur (West Bengal) when he played for the IIT Students. Everyone should hear Pandit Sri Ravishankarji play. Grand is a quite a smaal word to describe his sitar play.” So too when two Bengali women speak it looks like that they’re singing. So sundar. -- “M.K.Subramanian.”
love it ¡. Salutes.
love it¡
I have loved Indian classical music all of my life. Ravi Shankar at Monterey may have been the first exposure! I first had the album with L. Subramaniam on violin and Ali Akbar Khan on sarod when I was young. Ravi Shankar and Yehudi Menuin on violin was next. Both amazing records.
I saw Ravi with his daughter in S.F. which was very special. I have been blessed to hear Ali Akbar Khan a number of times even experiencing him teaching at his school. I saw Ali and Ravi together in Alameda, CA. I said hello to Ali back stage he was so sweet and friendly., just wandering by himself while Ravi was surrounded with people! L.Shankar on violin with Zakir Hussain. Niladri Kumar on sitar with the Rhythm Experience of Zakir. Shiv Kumar Sharma on santoor. Hariprasad Chaurasia on flute.
As you can see, I have been blessed by the music of India both in performance and recordings.
I am grateful to see this video about the creation of these wonderful instruments. 🙏
All love and gratitude to all. 🕉 🙏
and to Mother India.
Love & Music 🙏
A very educative n a eye opener the govt should certainly do the needful
yes.. i hope so.
I play sitar, only knew the gourds came from Miraj but had no idea the efforts gone into its making. Truly indebted to the artisans and the farmers.🙏
Hey , wanted to know about the cost of a sitar as I want to learn it soon
May I request the authorities in the central govt, as well as the govt of West Bengal, to come forward to extend adequate financial incentives to the musoc-loving makers of these istrumebts, who are no less than the musicians playing these instruments, since their knowledge and expertise in creating the instruments are no less than the creativity of the musicians.
thanks to come ¡¡
Govt of West Bengal is a joke, they won’t do anything.
While this is a good sentiment, posting your comment here will serve absolutely nothing. I doubt that the government of West Bengal is looking at UA-cam video comments to determine where to allocate their financial resources. If you are serious about making a change, then please find a better way to get in touch with that government.
Hello from America! I am a Sitar player of 2 years so far. This video was magical.
You wellcome 🙏
Utterly fascinating. How devoted these sitar makers are. And the music it produces is heavenly. Both sitar and sarod truly represent Ma Saraswati. My heart just melts.
It is 🙏
Thanks a lot for Your Comments
Please tranlate in Hindi and English.I don't understand Bungla language, but then also I love this documentary Thanks to all staff members and produser.

Om 🙏
Thank you for sharing this beautiful documentary. We rarely get to know the unsung heroes of the crafts. These artisans and craftsmen are no ordinary souls. These are masters of the art who are now here to facilitate learning of the art by others. My heartfelt gratitude to these masters.
Thanks 🙏
Great documentary. Thanks for making this available. I'm very much aware that the craftsmen do not get the proper reward for their work. I build instruments for myself and repair for others. People ask me to build, but they don't want to pay. The game the young people play with hoops was also played in Scotland, many decades ago.
Well said!
A beautiful and sad film. Indian instruments are perfect and it is because of the traditional makers that they stay that way. But even with all the nationalism of the BJP etc. nobody will lift a finger to help these treasures of Indian culture and society.
thanks for your words Om.
The most wonderful documentary. I thank the whole team from the core of my heart.
Namaste ¡¡
Thanks a lot for your Wishes.
Excellent little documentary on the plight of traditional craftsmen vs. the modern age. Why not establish a website to sell directly to the many interested people who would love to support these craftsmen. Check out the 'Fair Trade' movement; they work with tea growers and help them both in Asia and Africa. I was amazed at some of those lovely instruments; I particularly liked the one at 6:25...it seemed a very 'modern' interpretation of a classical instrument in its structure. Cheers!
Excellent and very informative❤❤❤
Glad you think so!
Correction: it's Saangli District in which Miraj is situated, and Gourds are cultivated in the area around Pandarpur !
Some fermers of West Bengal also cultivate Gourd like us...
That's the reality which i wanted to convey in this Film which you correctly pointed . Thanks
Very informative documentary. 👌👌
Glad you think so!

Great Find!

Excellent
Thank you so much 😀

om ¡¡ :)
REALLY IT IS EXCELLENT INFORMATION
Thanks and welcome. Om¡
If the craftsmen are getting only ₹10,000 per sitar and the shop owners sell it for 1lakh rupees then Government should intervene and fix the price at least ₹50,000 per one Sitar for the craftsmen.
That’s the point in my mind too. Straight forward solution.
Need information on how to place order for instruments directly from these manufacturers..
They can't speak in english.....so you need a translater
They do speak a little hindi
