A modern offbeat comedy about a new dog testing the bond of an established marriage, Sylvia emphasizes the importance of hanging onto simple pleasures during midlife. An audience favorite since its off-broadway premiere in 1995, Sylvia is sure to be a bright highlight of Live Theatre Workshop’s 2022 Mainstage season.
Synopsis: Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives.
Sylvia is directed by Lesley Abrams and stars Hannah Turner as Sylvia, Josh Parra as Greg, Jodi Ajanovic as Kate, and Lori Hunt in multiple roles.
Show Dates & Times: The show runs March 24 to April 30, 2022. Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 3:00pm, with a special Saturday matinee on April 30th at 3:00pm. There’s no evening show on April 30th.
