This brings back memories! I just made some of these! There was an elderly lady in my neighborhood that would set up a little table in the back alley between our apartment buildings where all the kids gathered to play. She'd sell these frozen Koolaid in Dixie cups for a dime (it was the late 70's). She called them "Ice birds". I never heard them called that since, but I loved that lady so that's what I call them too! She made the hot Virginia summers so much better and I'll never forget her. God bless her soul. ❤️✨🙏✨
I know all my 90s babies remember these summer treats! In N.O we call em frozen cups lol, get two cups for $1 or just one for 50 cents! The syrup on top is my favorite part

We have these in my country, I remember eating them when I was young. I moved to U.S when I was 6 and our neighborhood had a lady with a candy house around the corner of my house, Ms. Johnson, I remember her so well, always gave me a chico stick when I bought 2. First time I saw them I was so happy that I at least got to enjoy something similar from back home.
YES! Those were the days where, we as kids, felt FREE!!!!! We could walk to the candy lady house, other's would look out for us and make sure that we were safe! Thanks for watching! MUCH Love to you!

In Houston Texas we call them Cool-cups. I'm 40 and I still buy them when I want something cool & sweet but they HAVE to be syrupy and soft on the bottom. Thats the only way to eat them without having them melt a little which ends up being a mess. Soft and edible as soon as you purchase them.
Thank you so much for this!! I’ve been craving real frozen cups for years!!! I was about to try to make some myself but I wanted that real soft consistency so I looked to UA-cam. Thanks to you; I’m sure they’re gonna be right. My mouth dropped after you said one gallon of water to all that sugar😂😂. I had no idea that was the ratio I needed be working with! Thank you so much, life’s about to be a lot sweeter😋!

I guess they needed to supplement those Social Security checks. They would sell the little cups for a quarter or the big ones for 50 cent. I remember my cousins would be at our house and Grandaddy would come home drunk and pass out. We would steal the money out his wallet and split it between the five of us. Then we would head to the candy ladies house and load up!!! Flips, ice cream cones, Now and Laters, Chic O Sticks, Blow Pops, Jolly Ranchers back when they were long and flat sticks, Lemonheads, Boston Baked Beans (the CANDY not the actual beans lol), etc.....those were the days. And Grandaddy never found out what we did. He was so drunk he thought he gambled the money away or something. Lol
WOW! THIS literally brought tears to my eyes. WASN'T childhood FUN! Lord, kids today will NEVER know the times that they missed. Thanks SO much for sharing and taking me BACK! MUCH Love!

It's BEST with spring water. To me, Dominoes sugar works best! You can try it first and then compare to others. BUT, I use spring water, even the gallon from the Dollar Tree. Thanks SO much for watching! It's ABOUT that TIME!!!!! Much Love!
I made the blue on yesterday morning. They are blue lemonade; I LOVE the cherry, tropical punch. The yellow lemonades are GOOD. MY favorite is the pink lemonade because it is bittersweet! I don't mix very often; BUT, I love the grape mixed with lemonade. Actually, ANY kind mixed with lemonade is GOOD to me because I LOVE tangy sweet mixtures. The possibilities are ENDLESS!!!!! Thanks SO much for watching!@ MUCH Love!
LOUISIANA CUISINE MANNYS MOM oh okay I just saw in the video you had 3 packs and two was the same flavor and the other one was different. So to make the solid colors you just use 3 packs of the same flavor?
The last time I purchased mine was at Sam's. I purchased a 10 lb bag and was given a 25 lb. So, try your local Sam' club. Thanks for watching and commenting! MUCH Love!
Hi! We had two frozen cup ladies in Abbeville, Louisiana..Ms. Fom and Ms. Mertha... Crazy how they only lived a few doors down from each other, but we loved them both! I'm thinking about starting to make frozen cups...Do I need to secure a permit or any kind of license to sell from my home?
Hi! WEREN'T those the GOOD, ole days. Times were SO much better then. It seems like you had people looking out for you, making sure that you were safe. I did not purchase a license. We had an issue several years ago with people wanting those selling frozen cups to be licensed. But, the municipality decided not to require licensing because this allowed the neighborhood children to deal with people that the family knows. You can check your local office to inquire, though. It may be different in your area. BUT, this little gig helped me purchase my first car. AND, I LOVED seeing the kids and encouraging them. Thanks for watching AND commenting! MUCH Love!
@@mannysmom Thank you for commenting! I am in Houston. Will check into it for sure! I already started working on my business plan. Much love and will follow up with you!!!
I’ve have made these for my kids and told them stories about how we got them down the street at Mr. Henry’s for .20 a cup. He would also sell other things like caramel popcorn, candies apples, etc.. Thanks for sharing this!

ABSOLUTELY Nothing! It forms when it is frozen! Isn't that AWESOME!!!!! See, I use 3 cups of sugar to 1 gallon of water for this recipe. It creates the syrup on it's own. They are AWESOME! I am actually making some this evening! Thanks SO much for watching! MUCH Love!!!!
YES! DOESN'T it remind you of the GOOD ole days where you played until you were tired, stopped by the candy lady "store" and got a few snacks and this delicious treat ALL before the street lights came on! I’m in middle school in Louisiana and sometimes during the end of school they sell these even tho it’s mostly for some fundraiser but I love them and I wanted to make some so I looked on this video
Going to make these today for the kids at my home daycare. Does it matter what type of cups you use? Like paper or plastic? Also do you ever cover it in aluminum foil while freezing?
HI! I prefer the plastic cups. It appears that the Styrofoam cups make them get too hard. I don't place foil over them when freezing. If you have a lot of items on top of where you are freezing them, you may consider covering them. The kids will LOVE them, especially after playing outside...
Aren't they good? And, the thing is, we control how much sugar they are consuming! It seems like a lot, but look at how many you make! AWESOME treat!!!!
WHAT! Like the jaw breaker gum? I NEVER thought of that. Hey, I might try it when I make a batch! Thanks for commenting, sharing and watching! MUCH Love!

LOUISIANA CUISINE MANNYS MOM haha yes! Spent a lot of time in Georgia heat where these saved me and my boys. God bless you 🥳🥳😀😁😁
Question is that a gallon or two? Mines is the same but it’s two gallons I just want to be for sure!?
Hi! It's a gallon. Where did you find the 2 gallon? I would love to have one. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. MUCH Love!
Omg I love these here where I live we call them lily dilly’s
Thanks! They bring back SO many childhood memories, for me! Thanks SO much for watching and commenting! MUCH Love!
Do It Matter What Kind Of Water You Use ?, Do You Have To Use That Kind Of Brand For The Sugar ?
It's BEST with spring water. To me, Dominoes sugar works best! You can try it first and then compare to others. BUT, I use spring water, even the gallon from the Dollar Tree. Thanks SO much for watching! It's ABOUT that TIME!!!!! Much Love!
I want to start making them what is the best flavors to mix together. I want to make the red ones, pink, white,& blue ?
Yes!!!! I OFTEN mix lemon with ANYthing because I like tart, sweet taste!
@@mannysmom I'm going to try this too. Does it matter the type of cup? I want to use a fancier type since it's for a party. They boogie. LOL
@@sharon4951 Hi! I just don't like styrofoam. BUT, for a party, YES, jazz them up, honey! Thanks for watching! MUCH Love!!!!
OK I would like to know where do you purchase the domino sugar? I see a lot of people using, but haven't seen it here in stores in Texas.
The last time I purchased mine was at Sam's. I purchased a 10 lb bag and was given a 25 lb. So, try your local Sam' club. Thanks for watching and commenting! MUCH Love!
@@mannysmom thank you very much.
Last time I had one is when I was 3 but they were amazing though
YES! They bring back SO many memories for me!

I have heard hot water makes it sweet is it true
Hi! I KNOW that hot water makes them freeze faster; but, I'm NOT sure about making them sweeter. I WILL try it next time, though! You JUST have to make sure that you are using Spring water, though. I FOUND that it makes them taste SO much better. Thanks for watching AND commenting! MUCH Love!
Question what do u use for the syrup to place on top
ABSOLUTELY Nothing! It forms when it is frozen! Isn't that AWESOME!!!!! See, I use 3 cups of sugar to 1 gallon of water for this recipe. It creates the syrup on it's own. They are AWESOME! I am actually making some this evening! Thanks SO much for watching! MUCH Love!!!!
memories
YES! DOESN'T it remind you of the GOOD ole days where you played until you were tired, stopped by the candy lady "store" and got a few snacks and this delicious treat ALL before the street lights came on! We weren't rich, BUT, I wouldn't trade my childhood. We had SO much fun!!!! Thanks for watching AND commenting! MUCH Love!

How long do u keep it in the freezer??
Hi! I usually freeze them overnight. BUT, it just depends on how long you can WAIT on them, LOL! Thanks for watching AND commenting! MUCH Love!
LOUISIANA CUISINE MANNYS MOM Thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much! They're in the freezer now😊
Let me know how they came out! You're REALLY started something with the kids!!! AWESOME!!!
mannys mom omg they were so good! They ask for one everyday!
Aren't they good? And, the thing is, we control how much sugar they are consuming! It seems like a lot, but look at how many you make! AWESOME treat!!!!
Thanks.
I JUST made some last night, Tropical Punch!!!! They're GOOD!!!! Thanks for watching!!!! MUCH Love!!!

DON'T they bring back memories of your childhood?! I remember those steaming hot summer days and our walks to Mama Sista's house to get them. She used to put little pieces of candy at the bottom, too! Those were the good ole days, for sure! Thanks SO much for watching and commenting! MUCH Love!
My hero...but I need to know about egg custard?
