Hello. I understand your point, but I shoud say that in the context of this festival every song has to be live. The video was released after. Maybe, there are some effects added for the video and some sound compression, which is normal in the editing process. Moreover, there are other live performances of this song where he sings it the same or even better. Thank you for your great reaction to our Dimash. Regards from Dominican Republic.

En este festival solo se permitia cantar la canción una sola vez, asi que eso fue totalmente en VIVO...😊Gracias

One of my favorite songs from Dimash. It had to be live for the festival, and since it was the pandemic, they sent their own crew. According to the Japanese cameramen, it was not playback. I know it's hard to comprehend for singers, that he even exists among us. lol. To me it makes no difference, I still love this song. You do you.

I appreciated your reaction and subscribed. The bottom line for me is that you appreciated Dimash's extraordinary abilities whether this particular video was live or not. His is a talent that comes not even once in a lifetime. I feel so fortunate that he is in my lifetime. Enjoy his music and keep reacting please. A Dear from Maryland, USA.

Hello, sing live. The Tokyo Jazz festival was stopped live due to the pandemic. A very clear rule is that it has to be Live. From what you can see, there must have been some artist who, although he sang live, did it in two takes and they said that the entire song was performed live from beginning to end in a single take. Dimash told them to send to record it live so they could see that he wasn't cheating (he doesn't need it) to two of their Japanese cameras and they are the ones who recorded it LIVE!!! He sings the same in the studio as he does live and I think better live. Many times in concerts and other performances, when he is singing a long note, he shakes the microphone, takes it out of his mouth, puts it away and puts it back, the effect suits him very well, they look like stumps, but he does it precisely so that See that he is singing live. He sings with such perfection that many say it is a playback and they don't like it. If he has ever sung in playback it is on some television because they don't have the equipment for him to sing live but he doesn't like it at all. He has some values and principles that he says he doesn't like to do, first because he doesn't need it and for him that is cheating. Mislead the audience. A cordial greeting from Malaga, Spain. 😘

Dimash has used many normal "filters" to enhance his songs.. He is not cheating, he is just human.. The most common to hear is the echo effect which sometimes is just him doing his own backing vocals.. The Tokyo festival was not a competition.. Many artists us tech to enhance not cheat.. El Amor En Ti is the most obvious.. Performing a few songs is easy for him, but when he is performing a 3hr live concert he does use normal professional tech-tricks to pace himself.. Since 2017 when I first listened to him, to standing front row at his 2018 O2 London concert and then in 2022 in Prague.. I can hear the differences when I have the opportunity to listen to each performance on repeat.. I can hear these differences but I do not speak vocal techniques terminologies. Peace from SE England

@@ericdotd69 echo is an effect used in live singing as well. All those effects like echo are meant to imitate singing with good acoustics, which is often absent in the kind of venues and conditions those artists perform. In the past people performed in churches, now they perform in opera houses or concert halls that have been especially built to create great acoustics. Echo is always present as a natural sound for such venues. Not having echo is the not natural situation and it dulls the sound. So echo, reverb and similar effects on the mike are an imitation of the echo that is produced with good acoustics, that's all. When Dimash performs concerts in arenas and stadium, sometimes echo is added for these purposes. This doesn't affect or change the voice. In London Dimash was really sick, by the way, he didn't sound like himself, especially in his chest voice. I have been to 9 solo concerts already, and I know that his vocal condition, although he is always great, is not exactly the same in all concerts, and it's natural. He is only human, sometimes he is sick or tired, sometimes it's just not the best vocal day. So he often sounds somewhat better or worse compared to himself. But it's beyond the point. This specific performance is most probably prerecorded or done in more than one takes, but it has nothing to do with the echo effect and echo has nothing at all to do with cheating, of course.

Thank you. This is Dimash's 1st Japanese song. Although he has sung the Chinese version of this song: "Late Autumn" . The story is true, but the lyrics are different because the 2 songs tell the story from their side of the story. This is so incredibly gorgeous. I appreciate your observations and the sharing of your expertise. Dimash is the best of the best. I am in love with the humming at the end.

So glad you did another Dimash reaction! It's hard to believe but he is actually improving. I hope you react to some of his newer pieces. I think you would really love Omir. He wrote the song and it is a more scaled back vocal than what we are used to, but still incredibly impressive. The song is his reflection on his life and career to this point and was a birthday gift he gave to us Dears. (Yes, he gave other people a present for HIS birthday!) Anyway, it is just beautiful. Of course, his opus magnum to this point is The Story of One Sky, which he said took him 3 years to write. He also developed the script for the m/v, which is actually a very deep and moving mini-movie. Finally, I'd like to see your thoughts on his most recent, Dudarai. It has jazz in it where Dimash shows us another side of his talent. (I won't spoil it for you, but I think you will be a little shocked and impressed.) Again, good to see you visiting Dimash again. Hope you stay a while!

I had read that the Tokyo Jazz Festival sent people to film this as he was singing. Also, there have been some other reactors who identified that microphone as being incredibly sensitive and could be blown out if too loud. That's why he moved back when he got loud. I am not knowledgeable about mics but these comments seemed reasonable to think he was singing live.

Sam, you're back! Missed you! Don't listen to the haters who put Dimash on the pedestal he never wanted to be on. Dimash is a great artist. We all know what he is capable of live, but he is also a pro when it comes to using tech that is there to support the artist. He often sings along a prerecorded track to feel it and make it look real. People who deny lipsincing even though some TV shows on Russia etc have it in their public rules to use prerecorded tracks are clearly denying reality. I wish we could normalize lipsincing and admire him for his abilities nonetheless instead of coming across like stupid admirers who deny facts just because it's Dimash. At some point he sang it live, and he sings at least half of his concerts live, and he is AMAZING, so who cares about LS 😅? Just enjoy this beautiful man and beautiful music ❤

  • @skirk9184
    @skirk9184 11 місяців тому +30

Dimash has power. He can easily be too loud. Sometimes he'll hold the mic a foot or more away. And he controls the level as he thinks best. His instincts are so vigilant and musically attuned to expression . Because he immerses himself and identifies with the emotions. He's fearless in letting it show.
I think might be the greatest singer ever recorded or noted in history. Because it's not just his techniqual skill....but the human element. He's charismatic and stunning to look at. Standing 6'3" he has a the physique of a swimmer. His breath control is amazing.
    I could go on.
As for him lip syncing I can tell you Dimash didn't study for years to fake it. He loves to sing. In these videos he has time and rest to prep for his best vocals. He isn't trying to sell an image first. Most videos....Like Fly Away are live. His sound team know how to capture his voice. If it looks like his movement doesn't match up it could be in the editing. And often...he shows very little obvious mouth moves. Dimash controls are primarily in his center deep in his body. He's very aware.
Thanks for your candid reaction. Appreciate your support of him He's a damn legend.

Soon, Sam will realize that this was a "LIVE" recording. I watched the Tokyo Jazz posted on UA-cam. The fans were impatient and restless all day, waiting for Dimash to come out and sing his piece from the other side of the world. It was broadcast live from Japan. The DJ was pissed off with the fans, of course. Alas, the Dimash segment finally appeared much later in that late evening. But everybody was happy and satisfied.
    Immenso Dimash.

The word is that this was recorded live for the purpose of showing it at the 2020 Tokyo jazz festival. (Pandemic time.) He's using an extremely expensive microphone and watching his performance you can see that he is clearly still using his mic technique when he gets in closed and when he pulls back. You may have to get that close to your microphone to hear those aspirate sounds but that microphone is picking that up and still he's only a few inches away from it. Did you not hear his breath right directly into the microphone at the end when he was only a couple of inches away from it?
There may have been more than one take given that you can see a few edits.😅

Well, the video which was originally broadcasted by Tokyo Jazz Festival was removed from UA-cam later and replaced by this one. In the first video the camera angle switched so often and so quickly that it wasn’t a pleasure to watch.
Dimash has sung the Chinese version of this song quite often. It’s called „Autumn strong“. At one of his concerts after the Tokyo Jazz Festival he asked his listeners in which language he should sing the song and then decided to switch the language back and forth in the song. For sure not a pre-recording but just as beautiful as here in this video. I‘ve been at that concert. ua-cam.com/video/PDtQV2BEXH0/v-deo.htmlsi=6A2C5xnjgo0WrJlk

Just before you started second guessing whether this was a prerecording or a live performance, in my opinion, Dimash involuntarily gave charming confirmation that this was live: at 3:33 minutes he forgot the words - he hesitated for a split second and mumbled the word before finding the right place in the text. It is very natural to forget the lyrics when performing a song in Japanese for the first time, especially considering that Japanese is already in the second ten languages in which he sings. He handled the situation flawlessly and at the highest professional level. But if it had been a recording, I don't think he would have allowed it to air. Maybe I'm wrong about this fragment - no one has ever mentioned this in many reactions. But I perceived it this way and it fascinates and touches me: Dimash is not an alien, but a human who can (extremely rarely!) make a small inaccuracy in his performance, but, as a professional of the highest class, will come out of the situation brilliantly! This gives me even more admiration and respect for him, if that is possible.

I’m sorry but you can clearly see Dimash’s tongue is vibrating, his neck veins are obviously engorged, and his breaths perfectly match the sound, he also moves closer and further from the microphone, you can also see his larynx moving up and down; not lip syncing for sure.

I also watched a Japanese reactor comment that the 🇯🇵 language is usually pronounced wrong with a hard consonant sound of most western speakers. He said that it’s different and should be weaker to get it right. He was so impressed with Dimash getting the enunciation correct ❤️🇯🇵

Space ships can sail if they have solar sails, which can have augmented power by big space laser. They lose thrust a lot in the dim outer solar system and have no braking, so you have to plot position and velocity really carefully and use delicate gravitational slingshot maneuvers.
You should ask Dimash, as he is likely the advance ambassador from the Andromeda Galaxy, sent in advance of our (Milky Way Galaxy) future meeting and thus would know these sorts of intergalactic things. He's their way of breaking it to us gently.

I love this live-prerecorded discussion, it's funny, because actually both opinions might be right. The video looks as if it as shot twice: The light is clearly different some times, and the cuts are not 1000%. Visually. So the ones who say 'live' are perfectly right, but those who say he used a pre-recorded track, also: They shot the video two times, used only one of the recordings, but scenes from both versions, as to make the video visually perfect, too. That's why sometimes it looks 100% live and sometimes not. Just try to ignore Dimash's singing (😂) or maybe just turn down the volume and WATCH the scenes. You might see what I'm referring to, visually. Oh, and before I forget: Awesome reaction, thanks!

The transitions and dynamics in this performance are absolutely insane. So beautiful, all of the different aspects of how he performs this. I feel like if you cannot imitate Koji Tamaki or Dimash for this song just don't try! The original or this, those are the only acceptable options! 🤣 Absolutely brilliant.
Maybe it's me, I didn't think of his formation for the "e" sound to be unusual, I thought it was quite common to be taught that way when studying classical vocal. It's certainly something I was taught by my classical voice instructor early on, but maybe it's not usual?? I stopped taking formal voice lessons before I entered high school and really just did choirs after that so I could be wrong. Love from Oregon, USA.

Dimash has a click monitor in his ear, which is why he is so accurate. Another professional said, they have cut it, not because of his singing but for the pictures. As you can see - there are no camera's about - but the picture is swinging all over the place.
So you can have a long distance one and a hand held cameraman would get in the way. So for the really close up, hand camera not to cross over the long distance camera, they would have to stop it.
Then you have to remember - by contract and vocal health a lot of singers are contracted to lip sync, its big in Russian State occasions. They don't want any performer to trip up on these occasions. So it's in their contract - or you just don't perform full stop.

Hi. My first time hearing your reaction on the Master! Thank you for your expert explanation of what Dimash is doing. You are definitely a DEAR! Thank you for being totally honest with us. Even if this is a recording, Dimash had to sing this anyway, right? Appreciate you, and your knowledge of music, and all the wonderful nuances Dimash produces with his marvelous voice! ❤

I heard another coach years ago call the lip shape he uses on his "E"s "fish lips". She was a U.S. Broadway singer and said it allowed the muscles in the throat to relax producing sound more easily and create a warmer sound. He uses the same fish lips in the "E" in his STRANGER song.

I love your professional attitude to Dimash's renditions and your engaging sense of humor. About his lip-syncing. Let me tell you something. I understand that D's unique vocal abilities, his perfect pitch, and his breath control make everything we see and hear from him disbelieving, but analysers' going from mere hyping to lip-syncing doubts, and sometimes sheer accusations, has made us really dead-tired of UA-cam bloggers. You express your doubts ever so gently and with a lot of respect for the artist, but not many do that. So, whenever we hear lip-syncing, we stand on our toes, for we have become very sensitive to all the hate that goes in Dimash's direction. No one has ever cornered him with the question, and all the speculations are just that, speculations. Dimash needs respect for his integrity, humility, workcholicism, and striving for perfection, and if there are doubts about his singing, the right way is to bring these doubts to him and not try to disparage him on the net for the show and views. I think analysers should treat all the videos on Dimash's channels as recordings and analyze them as such, while all the others on UA-cam or elsewhere, TV productions included, should be taken with a pinch of salt. Dimash has proved himself on so many competitions, his voice cannot be mistaken and is immediately recognisable even by music amateurs, so he doesn't owe anyone any more proof. Who wants to hear him live, respectfully go to his concerts. Thank you for your work, stay safe, see you, love 💕 💕 💕

This performace was recorded on Japanese recording equipment with a $10,000+ super high sensitivity microphone. You will notice at the point that he starts the soprano section that he steps back from the microphone far enough that at his crescendos he is at least 3-4 feet away from the microphone and you know it it live because he still manages to overload the mic a bit during this passage. This performance in Japanese is also an homage to over 70 years of Japanese vocal/jazz recording style.

Hey, thanks a lot for the reaction! I enjoyed it a lot, especially with all the technical insight that you provided.
To answer your question if it was live or not. I've read that they recorded the video multiple times and took the best shots to produce the final video. So most likely some clips are from the voice recording that they chose at the end and some are from another one which is why they might look slightly out of sync.
Another video that you should check out from him is Dudarai. It's a new interpretation by him of an old Kazak folk song: ua-cam.com/video/-m_opaF9Zjk/v-deo.html
It was filmed for a tv show and was most likely recorded in a studio beforehand, so not a live performace. But the song is amazing, trust me! It's a side we haven't seen from Dimash yet.
And since you were asking for a video of him singing without a microphone.
I could only find complications but this one seems to include quite a lot of such clips: ua-cam.com/video/nAQOLe9mKsc/v-deo.html

Okay, so I don’t believe that Dimash would have been allowed to lip sync for this performance but I don’t dispute that there have been synced performances at times: agreed that it doesn’t negate Dimash’s abilities in any way; however, my son has given me a bit of perspective since he studied video and production. One of the first things that he enlightened me about is the use of a separate sound recorder and video recorder. He always has a sound recorder at the side that he syncs with the video post-production. Rationale is that the sound from the video camera would “bounce “ too much if he is moving around or using multiple cameras. We can obviously see that there are multiple (maybe not a lot - it is a studio - but at least more than one camera) angles and for continuity, the vocal has to be from one device and synced with the other devices. That is possibly the reason for occasional variances. Loved your reaction! Cheers from Canada!

Great reaction to Dimash. Seems like reactors are picking back up with him or maybe it’s just the algorithms. Either way, glad to see him on your channel. I would love to see you react again to Zhou Shen as well. He has a ton of new stuff out and he is just amazing. Love his new song Floating Lights and his performance at the Night at Ulaanbaatar. He performed 14 songs in 5 shows over NYE. He is also participating in a TV program exploring/revisiting old CPOP songs. He performs some amazing solos and duets. Check on his song Listen with Tan Wei Wei, his solo of Flammable and Explosive, his song Moonlight on the show Time Concert Series S2, and the always fabulous Upwards to the Moon with Sa DingDing. Just so many performances to explore. He is the most popular singer in China right now.

This is the Tokyo Jazz Festival, so none of the performances are ever "taped" then lip-synched performances. This was recorded 'in the moment', even though during COVID and done in a studio.
Wait until you experience "El Amor En Ti"!!! ua-cam.com/video/L7PML9UcKwE/v-deo.html
Keep in mind that this song is from a live concert, and followed immediately his physically and emotionally draining singing of "The Story of One Sky". A much-needed "breather" for him and his back-up singers.
Also, his duet with Li Yugang of "The Drunken Concubine + The Diva Dance".
    ua-cam.com/video/jCrNVaXCB0k/v-deo.html
Mr Li is a star of the Peking Opera who specializes in the "nandan" (male playing a female character) roles.
Can't wait to see your reaction to both of these performances Sam!! Thanks for this reaction, and your most-excellent comments.

The Chinese version of the song called Autumn strong from The Singer competition is really live and I think it is even more beautiful, even more emotional. With Gloria Wu's translation, you will also learn the background of the song, which is very sad, but with this knowledge, the song is truly beautiful. My favorite from Dimash.

Yes Sublime. It's Dimash! And he's all about continuous improvement.
    { Also, he doesn't speak Japanese, and Reactors from that country have said his pronunciation is near perfect }
He has said he's uncomfortable watching Reactions to his performances, particularly Vocal Coach Reactions, as it makes him anxious that they will pick up on all his 'mistakes'...
    😵‍💫
This! Coming from an already LEGENDARY Artist, where respected vocal coaches world wide are coming out and saying things like; " We now have to talk about the use of the human voice 'In the time before Dimash' and Post..."

I am glad that you noticed the movement of Dimash's tongue. I noticed the flutter of his tongue when he sang "Sinful Passion".I do believe he is singing and not syncing. I believe it is a powerful mic since he stands so far away from it when he belts out the other notes. To each his own I guess. Thank you for the video. This is my first time on your channel. I don't know if you have already reacted to his performances on The Singer 2017, if not, I would love for you to react and comment on "Adagio", "All By Myself", and "Unforgettable Day." As you know, these were all live performances on that show, and the contestants only had one week to learn each song. These songs were beyond amazing, and the orchestra along with the background vocals only to each song to music nirvana.
