Watch it live in1973. Edgar is a musicians, musician. But seeing is believing. Also him singing "tobacco road" with his brother Johnny. An awesome blues singer. ☮️
Yeah, we danced to this. When it went into that downward break, we'd all float down to the ground in slow motion and then bolt off the ground when the pew pew took off. EXCELLENT fun piece!
And this is the band that also featured the amazingly talented Dan Hartman (played bass guitar on this track) who went on to have several hits of his own including the classic "I Can Dream About You"
When the synthesizer gets going after the drum solo it’s almost like it passes right through your head from one ear to the other. Back in the 70s my dad had an old Fisher stereo system with 2 15 inch woofers I used to sit on the floor between the two speakers And love it when it passes through my head. That is one kick ass tune.
Absolutely..no comparison without watching the live version..i can't imagine being a band having to follow this group..guys please watch the live version
I'm an old guy who remembers when this song came out. Yes, people danced to it. It was popular at roller skating rinks as well. This is my favorite song to start out a DJ Gig with... kinda sets the tone and mood for the rest of the gig. I don't remember his name but the guy on the left that likes sax, listen to Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street (The Long Version) probably one of the most iconic Sax solos in Classic Rock. Enjoyed watching you young guys enjoying the music I listened to as a teenager.
Since Ryan loves the sax so much there are two popular and amazing instrumental tracks from the 1970's that you guys absolutely have to check out! The first one is 1974's "Pick Up The Pieces" by Average White Band! This track will knock Ryan's socks off!!! The second one is 1975's K-JEE by MFSB!! This track is a pure firecracker! It was also used in the movie "Saturday Night Fever"! Ryan will love this one as well! Sax rules!
With headphones on this will drill through your brain from one ear to the other especially from the drum solos onward to the end of the song. Back in the day some of us took Jensen Car Stereo Speakers, hooked them up to our home stereos & held the speakers on either side of our head to get the full experience. When the laser sounds went from one channel to the other I actually though it might be causing brain damage as it drilled through my head from one ear to the other. 🤣 "Free Ride" is the other big hit from the album.
Takes me back to high school bonfire parties. We listened to a lot of Steppenwolf, too. Give them a listen to. I think it's interesting that you use so many cartoon comparisons in your reactions.🤭 ☮️. Go Suns🏀🌞
"They Only Come Out at Night" was the first album I ever bought. I was 10 years old, and I just had to have that song. I still have that album after all these years, and Frankenstein is _STILL_ one of my all time favorites. I'm 58 now. BTW, there's nothing wrong w/ disco. I love it.
Frankenstein hit #1 on the Billboard HOT 100 on May 26, 1973 for 1 week. And at the end of the song, what you call the star wars, I have always felt that was the part of the song where they were bringing Frankenstein the monster alive with getting his heart beating. When the main theme returns at the end, Frankenstein is alive.
"They Only Come Out At Night" - a nod to Edgar and his brother Johnny Winter - they were both albino. Edgar on keyboards, sax and drums as he switches around during the song. Check out Edgar's previous band - Edgar Winter and White Trash -- Tobacco Road. Amazing musicians and performers all.
My man on the left wants some songs featuring harmonica? Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "You Don't Know How It Feels" Black Sabbath "The Wizard" Blues Traveler "Hook" and/or "But Anyway" Neil Young "Harvest Moon" And I feel like I distinctly remember Chris Robinson, the singer for The Black Crowes, used harmonica in one of their songs but nothing springs to mind Ideas anyone?
Listen to Tower of Power if you want to hear the best horn section ever. For a minute I thought I heard the Tower horns in there. Try listening to What is hip, but I like there is only so much oil in the ground. Tower of Power's horns are on so many other bands' recordings. Please listen to them.
I am so glad to come over and find y'all doing this. You've never heard it? I think you will like it. I hope you don't have the video. Nah. Wouldn't matter. You guys know what's good.
Talk about a flip. I'm 62. A sailor. My first album was Tom Jones, Little Green Apples. Think my mom might have had something to do with that. My second "first" album was this one. My second was Deep Purple " Machine Head ". First concert was Led Zeppelin, House's of the Holy ,tour Tampa Stadium 1973. Nothing against Tom,but I was pretty much gone at that point. Not really my favorite Edgar Winter song, and I prefer his brother's bluesy sound, but together ? Ridiculously good. Rock and Roll Hoochy Coo (?) Is probably the more famous song with Rick Daranger, I believe , but Johnny's "Still alive and Well " is my favorite. Enjoy...😎
You must, must must react to the live version!!! Please? To answer your question, “Was this song played like at dance parties?” We didn’t have dance parties back in the day, but we had a helluva lot of pot parties in which this song and numerous others were played! Rock on and greetings from Illinois!
That is an Arp Oddessey synth, the only viable alternative to a Moog synth at the time. It has a distinctive sound. Thanks guys hadn't heard that in a long time.
Hey there 502, yelling at you from the 606, I saw the PRP 6th region shirt, cool. I guess you guys from Lexington area, I'm from Wayne County down on the Lake Cumberland.
One of the best instrumentals ever . Another you should listen to is Average White Band Pick up the Pieces . Other songs to review are Heart Alone , Journey Stone in Love , INXS New Sensation .
Yes we were as confused like ya'll, but we ate that sh!+ up, think he performed this on Midnight Special, if you find it, watch the audience,..absolutely transfixed,..jamming, and it may not look it, but totally acting like what they were hearing was normal,..something like Edgar, ELO, Billy Thorpe, came along, our brain waves would just acclimate, automatically,..0 adjustment period, boom,.assimilated, and it's still incredible to me how they did all this with analog, no sophisticated computer systems,..they were amazing, do keep going, do check out Billy Thorpe, "Children of The Sun", another wild one, Foghat, "Slow Ride", if you haven't,..keep going, enjoy, Godspeed, Peace ✌
Live version is longer and better. Frankenstein was a warm up piece and they expanded it to a song. The drummer and guitarist Rick Derringer have their own hits. Edgar played the sax on Tina Turner's simply the best song. His brother was also a great musician. Look at his version of Tobacco Road
"Frankenstein" didn't really have a dance beat, although there may be some funk influence. Discos/dance clubs were around, but weren't "the thing", until a couple of years after Frankenstein was released. I don't remember anyone dancing to "Frankenstein".
There is a live video of this song! Pretty impressive to watch Edgar move all over the stage from instrument to instrument. This is Pre Disco , It kind of fell into progressive Rock territory, along with bands like Pink floyd, & Rush. They may have danced to it back then...if they were high enough! Lol I was only 8 at the time. My oldest brother had this album.
disco came out in late 70's. this came out in 72. this has nothings to with disco, but the keyboard might have a little disco type sound to it. or if you want say that disco sounds like edgar winter group, that is ok.
Might nobody see this cause you dudes did this a while ago... Magnus Opus right here. You don't need to anything else by them. What I want to share is my All Time Top Ten. Cause this is one... guaranteed THIS ONE.
I know it's been two years since you posted this video and I'm not sure if you'll even bother to read this, but you definitely need to check out Winter's band prior to this group. the band is called White Trash and their first album, Edgar Winter's White Trash is phenomenal. It's Texas blues/funk/R&B/jazz and I play it to this day. Check out: Give It Everything You've Got, Let's Get It On, I've Got News For You and the incredible Good Morning Music. Like Boz Scagg's Lowdown, they don't make music like this anymore.
You gotta keep in mind. It’s called Frankenstein. It tells a story, the villages are stalking him and what happens to him in the end. That’s how I interpreted the music.
Ok, c'mon and listen up. I forgive you😉😁🤣but, you were already told that they created this in their studio and spliced/pieced it together from a bunch of pieces of tape to make it, yet you asked if this was "the originator" of the song ??? Try to keep up. BTW, Edgar Winter is also responsible for the invention of the Keytar because, he literally was the first person to put a strap on his keyboard so he could wear it around his neck, to gain mobility while performing.
Watch it live in1973. Edgar is a musicians, musician. But seeing is believing. Also him singing "tobacco road" with his brother Johnny. An awesome blues singer. ☮️
Edger didn't play many instruments HE PLAYED ALL. He spliced it all together in his apartment. That is why it is called FRANKENSTEIN
Im 60 years old when this came out in 73 it blew everybodys mind.
Dudes you have to watch the live version to fully appreciate how bad ass Edgar is!
You need to watch the live version. So you can see all the instruments that Edgar Winters plays. INSANE watching him.
Live performance video is a must watch!!! Incredible!!! ❤️🔥
I'll add my vote to all those saying, "Watch the live performance". It's epic!
This was huge in the 70's, very unique at that time. It was played on FM alot!
not sure if it was played in dance clubs, but it was played at a lot of house parties!
I never went to any "dance parties," but in the 70s, this song was played at all the keg parties and house parties I went to.
Bring it home!
Woww!
💜💜💜
Have sung this tune ever since I first heard it - 'lo these many years. Haha.
Yeah, we danced to this. When it went into that downward break, we'd all float down to the ground in slow motion and then bolt off the ground when the pew pew took off. EXCELLENT fun piece!
I’m imagining them LIVE I know it by heart ♥️ each instrument 🎷🎹🥁
watch the live version of them playing Frankenstein
You must watch the live video to really appreciate this!!!
And this is the band that also featured the amazingly talented Dan Hartman (played bass guitar on this track) who went on to have several hits of his own including the classic "I Can Dream About You"
Fun fact, the synthesizer used is the Arp 2600 which was the same machine that created the sounds of R2-D2 for Star Wars.
Yes, this was a big time dance record. Clubs and houses parties.
You need to watch it live to appreciate it!
Absolutely..no comparison without watching the live version..i can't imagine being a band having to follow this group..guys please watch the live version
The MVP tracks off of that album: this one, "Free Ride" and "We All Had A Real Good Time"!
I was 11 years old when that album came out I still have it in my collection.
I was in 6th grade when this came out. Huge AM Pop & FM radio hit. It captures that early '70s vibe very well. FYI, Disco came later in the decade.
I'm an old guy who remembers when this song came out. Yes, people danced to it. It was popular at roller skating rinks as well. Live.... is a whole different experience ✌😎

"They Only Come Out at Night" was the first album I ever bought. I was 10 years old, and I just had to have that song. I still have that album after all these years, and Frankenstein is _STILL_ one of my all time favorites. I'm 58 now. BTW, there's nothing wrong w/ disco. I love it.
Then the dude in the white looks star struck 🤩 watching EDGAR KICK ASS playing all those instruments

“And I hear some cowbell coming up too… I’m looking forward to that! I love cowbell.. !” Haha haha f’n hilarious! I love it. More cowbell! Yeah man!

Then Edgar SLAMS THAT 🎹on the ground gets MONSTROUS
FUNK...never disco...
This is also a musical interpretation of the old Frankenstein movies from the 50s.
When listening to this song live is the way to go watch the the group fear
My man on the left wants some songs featuring harmonica?

His necklace on album cover is a keyboard.🎧

I’m binging guys, this is my 5th video today!!! Next suggestion is Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo….by Rick Derringer!!!!
That is an Arp Oddessey synth, the only viable alternative to a Moog synth at the time. It has a distinctive sound. Thanks guys hadn't heard that in a long time.
Not a 2600??

the live version is as great as tobacco road live
I know dang it they r missing out 😵💫
This got a lot of play on the hard rock stations
"Frankenstein" didn't really have a dance beat, although there may be some funk influence. Discos/dance clubs were around, but weren't "the thing", until a couple of years after Frankenstein was released. I don't remember anyone dancing to "Frankenstein".
You need to listen to this song live like everyone said and watch the video of it to get the reality of the song..
Harmonica is played in Aerosmith by Steven Tyler in "Hangman Jury". Watch it live.
Check out a song by Edgar Winter called free ride
There is a live video of this song! Pretty impressive to watch Edgar move all over the stage from instrument to instrument. This is Pre

Pink floyd, & Rush. They may have danced to it back then...if they were high enough! Lol I was only 8 at the time. My oldest brother had this album.
dance parties...LOL-more like drug parties!!
Great to hear this again.FYI the pic you used isn't Edgar but his brother Johnny Winter
disco came out in late 70's. this came out in 72. this has nothings to with disco, but the keyboard might have a little disco type sound to it. or if you want say that disco sounds like edgar winter group, that is ok.

Take a walk on TOBACCO ROAD then take a FREE RIDE 😎😵💫
You gotta keep in mind. It’s called Frankenstein. It tells a story, the villages are stalking him and what happens to him in the end. That’s how I interpreted the music.
This song predates that sound effect being used for lasers iirc.
Watch the video!!!!!!!
Im sure you would like give it every thing you got.by Edgar. Honky Tonk by Johnny Winter album roots an instrumental with Edgar. Enjoy
Edgar put a strap on the ARP 2600 to become mobile. Innovation.
Sounds like War of the World!
Do you want to hear song with a good saxophone work listen to a song by Supertramp called my kind of lady. Saxophone will blow you away.
You missed out - LIVE version so much better!!!

Play free ride
Prog rock, not disco.
Ehh more like jazz funk. They didn't really play with any time signature changes or polyrhythms in this.
This ain’t disco!
What cha talking about?
