Just got my 1861 Springfield and while I knew most of this it's always nice to come back and see what others say and do. Do like the swab for oiling though and will switch to that from using a patch.
Thanks for the very useful video, particularly for mentioning not to overtighten screws - it's so easy to do! Looking forward to seeing your next video - always a pleasure to meet you.
Great video! I've been doing this since 1993- I did not know I should not over tighten! Yikes! One thing i DID do right was to have my factory compression fit 3 piece ramrod welded. I saw many guys have their rammers come apart when trying to remove a stuck minie ball.
I have an original 3 band P53, in excellent condition (paid € 1,200 with bayonet), marked VR, Tower 1857 with the Lee mold 575-500-M # 90481 and 3.9 grams of Swiss black powder No. 3 it doesn't miss a shot. Ciao da un tiratore di Milano
@Blockade Runner Inc - Ok..so i have an 1842 Springfield rifle-musket by Armi-Sport. Is there anywhere i could order/purchase a smooth-bore barrel to swap out,if i wanted to ??.
