Sam and I backpacked the Manistee River Trail from the Red Bridge up to the suspension bridge, then rafted the river back to the start. About 10 miles of hiking, and 13 miles of rafting. Sam is paddling an Alpacka Yak, and I'm in a Curiyak.

excellent trip! so i'm guessing you live around the area if you hit up the MRT. how often do you use the packraft? i've been tempted but can't decide if putting that much money into one would be worth it..... i've done the MRT/NCT loop before but never thought of packrafting it, it would open up a bunch of new options!!

We came all the way from Indy for it. I get to use mine every month or two, so it's been worth it for me. You're right, it definitely opens up a lot more options. You get to take all the "blue trails!"

juskojj Nice. I usually go on overnights or longer. I check out Google maps for green areas of public land with rivers running through them, then do a little research on the river and the area. Check out my channel for some other ideas too.

How did you guys get those rafts in those packs? I’m struggling...need to figure out a better way to pack everything.

We pack pretty light...Probably a 20 or 25 lb base weight on this trip for the two of us combined (excluding rafting stuff). The boats, paddles, and pfd's were the biggest part of our gear by far. That's an 85 liter pack I'm wearing, which helps a lot!

James Taylor thanks James. I’ll give it a try. Leaving a lot of stuff home on next trip to compensate. Do you roll the raft up with one fold or make more of a ball shape?

      @@OneclickOutside I use this technique: ua-cam.com/video/1knHmqDrPeM/v-deo.html
and then secure it with this strap, which I got at REI: seatosummitusa.com/products/10-mm-accessory-straps
