the great sadness is that this film was originally to be shot taking place throughout an entire actual TOWN of Denton, as referenced in Rocky Horror. (very TRUMAN SHOW) A strike at the studio forced O'Brien to quickly rewrite the entire script to take place in a few closed studio rooms. This DESTROYED the impact. The original idea was HUGE, and would be a totally different animal that would be greatly respected with the great music, and the idea of reality TV BEFORE it ever even came about! posting this on this song + Shock Treatment theme.
+linda blackman uh, no....Denton the fictional town implied in Rocky Horror AND in this movie. In Rocky Horror you see the original wedding scene happening in the town of Denton USA at a Church. (the home of happiness) on the billboard near the Church. The fictional town of Denton was originally the plan, on a huge budget with a big fake town...the same town implied from Rocky Horror...home of Brad and Janet. When the strike happened, they had to turn the town into a TV show taking place on a few sound stages rather than a representation of an actual town. this can also be read on IMDB.
it's the town of Denton, Texas. that's where the 'experiment' started. also Ref'd in True Stories by David Byrne/Talking heads. A Nation WITHIN a nation. Denton, TX. Believe that literally referred to in Shock Treatment commentary. Some of my friends also on the Truman Show. [True Stories references the entire area of Dallas/Fort Worth 'metroplex' and Denton and refers to something to do with CIA and microchips [indirectly].
personally, i think the fact the film was shot inside closed studio rooms somewhat worked in the movie's favor if you look at it as a way to really drive home the craziness and the claustrophobic and isolated nature of the narrative
I was at the Boston premiere of this film when it originally screamed and people were bowling at the end they were so upset because they wanted to Rocky horror sequel. I knew it would take decades for this to find its audience the film is not perfect it's far from perfect but it was ahead of its time with the reality television premise
The sad part is it did start off as a sequel to Rocky Horror called "Rocky Horror Shows it's heels" he gave the script he wrote to director Jim Sharman. And Jim stated the songs are good but the story was horrible. So Richard O'Brien basically lifted all of the songs and supplanted onto this script originally titled "The Brad and Janet Show"
If this ever gets remade (Not likely at all but one can hope), I'd hope to a god that it gets shot throughout a town like it was originally supposed to.
I honestly think it works better in the studio because of what this song foreshadows, Denton isn’t all it seems. It’s telling you how tolerant and friendly it is, but the reality is that it isn’t. Sneaky little lyrics underscore this like, “You’re America’s truth” and “The acceptable face of the human race”. Also tolerance for the ethnic races? Why would you even need to single that out unless you’re trying to morally compensate? I agree it would have been cool to actually see Denton, Texas remodeled into the town the song sings about, but as it is I personally feel what we got is a much better fit with the artificial reality that the residents of the town live in outside of the studio, which of we’re being cerebral, there might not even be that much of difference. In the end, they’re bigoted, gullible sadists and they deserved everything they got.
In case your wondering Richard O'Brien disowned this movie but he's proud of the fact that it accurately predicted the Rise of Reality TV. Also he felt his acting was terrible.
Entertainment FIlms I disagree. While it isn't as good as RHPS, you have to respect the way it successfully predicted reality tv, the sets, and the cinematography
It was intended to be Texas, but it's Ohio. And trust me, I've been to both Denton Texas and Denton Ohio and they're not gonna get on the map any time soon.

this is a good movie. don't know why it gets so much hate
No Tim Curry....ummmmm.....I think that's about it.
+MrCarter0975 He was supposed to play Farley Flavors but didn't think he could pull off an American accent.
Amanda Jayne Tate there was a strike going on at the time, he didnt turn it down bc of an accent
yodaya70 I know!
N Kemp, no that's why it wasn't filmed in the US. The reason Tim wasn't in it was he did not think he could pull off an American accent. Look it up

I love that ad at the end uses a synth-y pop version of Farley’s song

I don't care what they say that was John Candy in the audience! ;)

I don't want to listen to kids yell out the "F" Word! :(
where'd ya hear that?
YouPrettyThings Cinema snob's review
Now, watching them get slaughtered senselessly, I'm fine with that.
The F word isn't used by children in this movie. What dumbass said that? I don't even think the F word is even in the movie
They said fun

덴튼 미국!
Yeah
Five years!🍌👻
7 years!!
The only good thing in this movie is the music
Entertainment FIlms I disagree. While it isn't as good as RHPS, you have to respect the way it successfully predicted reality tv, the sets, and the cinematography
And not even all of the music. This song is really fantastic though.
Ayden B. Also how the media exploits normal peoples troubles for entertainment.
💘💘💘💘
haha I always did too.. They said it wasn't him on the DVD....it could be a conspiracy though haha jk ;)
This song fits Tennessee better than Texas. Just sayin'.
Denton, in the Rocky Horror Universe is in Ohio not Texas.
it's in texas, even the commentary says so [watch the commentary]. was planned to be filmed in Denton Texas. [wikipedia says AND commentary].
It was intended to be Texas, but it's Ohio. And trust me, I've been to both Denton Texas and Denton Ohio and they're not gonna get on the map any time soon.
@@AtlanticGiantPumpkin 😭😭
