It played on a Spotify playlist 4 weeks ago and I was so paralyzed with nostalgia when it played that I didn't take the time to look at the artist and song title. Took me 4 weeks to find it. My God, so many memories and such a beautiful song. Only now in my mid-30s too (understanding more creole) that I'm realizing how empowering of a song it is!

I discovered Haitian music in 1988 and would drive from CT down to Brooklyn just to buy the vinyl - my first records were Tabou Combo's "Aux Antilles" and "Flanm." 1988 was a good year for Caribbean music. Years later in 2000 I interviewed Emeline for Beat magazine and she was on the cover.
