Thanks so much for taking the time to put together all these videos. I have never played any of the FS games previously, so I knew nothing about how they were structured, nor the mechanics. Your tutorials have allowed me to enjoy playing rather than spend hours frustrated as I try to sort out the basics. I found this one to be particularly entertaining. The way you combined, albeit unrealistically, the different equipment inspired me. Though necessary - especially if one desires to make money quickly, I have found tending to grass in this game to be rather tedious - mow, ted, windrow, bale pick-up, fertilize... wash, rinse, repeat... A six step process that is time consuming with multiple grass fields. So, after watching this, I attached a Big Baler to the "Big-M", skipped the tedding, and took a six step process down to two - cut/bale, then pick-up. Again, not realistic, but easy money. I also grabbed the "more wheat" mod which doubles the yield of grass and straw... Perhaps a mistake. Now there are so many bales, the Bale pick-up needs to grope along at about 4 mph just to keep pace with the cycling of the stacker. But, off two small grass fields plus two more I created, I made $155K in one cutting - LOL! Anyway... Thanks again.
One benefit of using the Pottinger mowers on the back of a reverse drive tractor is staying cool. We run a set of New Holland mowers with a single up front and the butterflies on the back and when I get into really dry, dusty, seedy grass it clogs up the grill, the rad and everything else which causes the tractor to over heat so I continually have to go out and clean it off ever 2-4 hours. Move the mowers to the back and you don't have that issue. Then probably the bigger reason as to why you can't run 3 mowers on the front is PTO power. The game doesn't simulate this, probably for simplicity, but the front PTO doesn't have the same rating as what the engine has. For instance my T7.270 makes around 230HP on the engine and 270HP boosted from the turbo. Now the rear PTO has around 210-220 HP (not sure on specifics), but the smaller PTO on the front only has around 100-110HP. Not even close to running the 3 and if you tried to run all 3 you would stall the tractor. I know that the front PTO is just big enough to run that mower.
Very informative. I've only ever run the equipment that my family has and ours is all old and small. We have an old Ford Workmaster 641 and a John Deere 1530 (I think that is the model#). I've always wondered how the modern stuff with front 3points and ptos was
In North America front PTOs are not all that common and for the most part are overly useless. It is mostly replaced with a weight rack. There really isn't much use for a front PTO as really the only thing that needs it would be a mower but triple mowers aren't the most commonly used here. Even we stopped using them in favor of a more dedicated machine, and I have to say I wish we did it far earlier than we did.
TheJadeStorm87 Ah. Yeah no one in my immediate area has a front mower for a tractor or a dedicated mowing machine, but then I don't live in the big time farming part of the state. I know they have some big machines when you get down into south GA. Around me in middle GA everyone just uses a drag behind or a 3point mounted side mower. For years we used an old sickle bar ourselves, then about 6 years ago my uncle got a used vicon disc mower but it is a pos that you can't get parts for and he didn't like the way it cut so he went back to the sickle bar. But since he passed away, my dad uses the vicon instead of the sickle bar because he doesn't have to worry about hitting an ant hill and it getting clogged up. That John Deere can barely handle that big disc mower though.
Great video Arthur, thank you ! "Hay has a sun next to it, grass does not". Well that made me blush, I've clocked up hundreds of hours in this game and I never realised that was the sun, I thought they just put an asterisk next to it durrr :-p now that you've pointed it out, it's so obvious :-D
The double + single pottinger mowers have about 230hp requirement. I found the Fastrac 3000 xtra to be insufficient even with the engine upgrade to mow an undulating field. While downhill was ok, uphill the speed dropped to below 5mph. I strongly recommend something more powerful with that set up. I upgraded to a 280hp tractor and was able to achieve max cutting speed (around 9mph) no matter the conditions - I moved the fastrac to a baler using "follow-me" - with a 3rd tractor in the middle of the convoy pulling the windrower. Yeah nice little tractor convoy. The Krone Big M will not wide swath due to a deficiency within the farming simulator code. Supposedly this is being worked on, but for now only single row is possible.
Neil Harbott Very good info, you definitely need a large, powerful tractor to use the triple mower setup. I usually use the Deutz 7 series for flatter maps, or the Deutz 9 series for the steeper maps. Both with top engines of course. Good point about the Big M, why I only use it for grass and not hay. Keep on Farm Simming!
Great video as always, very informative for the newbies. Glad to see you getting back to the tutorials, they're the only reason I started FS15 in the first place! Now I've got over 450 hours on Farm Sim thanks to you! Keep up the great work!
Your video inspired me to do a 4 day controlled experiment on 2 12-meter strips (one plowed and one not) on field 25 of Goldcrest Valley mowed with the discbine and measured with the pottinger euroboss. The bottom line was that plowing made no difference, but fertilizing made a huge difference. Mowing always reverted the fertilizer level to F1 and eliminated the "needs plowing" status. In order to increase to F3 you do have to fertilize after growing stages. The F3 yield was 42% more than the F1 yield.
weird - plowing is supposed to make a 10 percent difference. Are you sure you had Periodic plowing on in the menu, and that you had the field in question in a "need to plow" state?
Arthur Chapman Yep. I started a fresh game in normal mode. I was surprised that the fertilizer made a difference and that mowing reset the fertilizer level. Give it a try.
It appears that you now can wrap hay, and it becomes.... wrapped hay!! I have about 16 bales of wrapped hay on my sheep farm, I was running my regular mow-ted-windrow-bale tractor convoy, and had the Kuhn round baler/wrapper attached. I'd forgotten to turn off the wrapper (a handy little mod), so I ended up with a field of wrapped hay. And of course I assumed, that it was now going to turn into silage in 2 days (as I'm running seasons). But when I stuck a fork in it 2 days later, I found it was still hay. I've been feeding my sheep with it for the last year and a half. I guess the advantage of wrapping your hay is that it will not be destroyed in a rain shower, if you don't collect it and barn it quickly enough. However, since then I've always made sure I turn off the wrapper, if I'm not needing silage as it's not so easy to tell the difference between silage and wrapped hay without a bale fork to test it with. I believe (not tested) if you're running seasons it takes "1 month" to make silage from grass using wrapped bales. So if you're running a 3 day season, grass will become silage 24 hours later. I think most of us default to a 6 day season, so we experience a 2 day wait for the fermentation process to complete. Using a longer season you would need to lengthen your fermentation calculation accordingly.
I believe you are correct - it takes 2 days. Also, the wrapped hay staying wrapped hay is a function of the seasons mod. I believe that in the standard game, they are just plain silage, but I will have to check this.
it stupid the krone turns the hay into grass, I don't know if you ever did this but if you put a windrow on the front of a tractor and turn the forager on in back - you can actually hire the helper and it will collect the on its own - best to row it first and then use the smallest windrow on the rows
It's crazy all the changes from 17 to 19 I broke my PC so as I wait to save up money for parts for my computer went back to 17 holy jesus just the process of making silage bails is so much different let alone the rest of the game

In the game fertilization is not realistic. You basically need 3 stages, doesn't matter when or what, but if you want to keep it real it goes like this - Plow once every 3 harvests (your map has a mode that will show you what fields need plowing in red). Slurry or Manure before cultivation (culminator). Solid fertilizer OR weeder after first stage of growth. Spray after second stage. The cultivator gets rid of the stubble from the last harvest. Hi Robert, you are correct. Giants changed how the mixer works fairly recently, and it no longer accepts grass. This video was made before that change took place. So now it's just Hay, Straw, and Silage. Hope that helps.
arthur, the big m mower has the windrow function permanently locked in due to a fs 17 conflict or bug, so currently as of this post it is windrow only.
David Johnson Definitely, I know we never tedded unless it rained before we bailed. That would be a great feature, to have grass turn to hay after a day or two. Wishful thinking for FS19 lol.
Hi, the tip of having the 3 tier lawnmower AND windrower on same traktor has proved Brilliant, Thank you very much. now I can have two collectors following me (fyi: follow me mod) Instant collection, is brilliant.
@@kingarthursims Hi, it sure did, I was wondering if u got any vids on altering moded silos? yes I have already edited the main xml, but the frazling thing still only holds same amount, this is the silage silo... Thank you for any assist u can give in advance.
its different on each map. On Goldcrest its the big red barn just south of the farm house (right by your silos). On Sosnovka, its a low gray building just across the street from your grain silo. On Estanchia Lapacha its right next to the animal sales facility. You can also dump the bales into the digester at the biogas plant, but that does fill up, so you are better off just using the barn.
I watched your video about starting a grass farm, to sell hay from the barn......All the equipment you said to buy, you're using almost none of them in this video. I'm confused now.
i am on PC i currently have goldcrest valley with no mods apart from the kuhn pack, follow me mod and a money mod i have being cutting grass waiting for it to grow again and cutting it again. it takes more than a night for it to grow and at no point has it turned to hay. i double checked before commenting and i have the latest patch. i have being doing this over the past few days to test the krone baler in the straw addon DLC
OK so the part you skipped is what most people struggle with, The actual dumping and where and how, like i followed every step and now its just grass sitting in it and it wont empty and is to feed cows or sheep or wtf. this game makes my head fucking hurt
When you pull up to the feed tray a small (dump) icon will appear in the bottom right window (by the speedometer). When this appears you will press whatever key you have mapped for "dump" - If there is no dump symbol you may be at the wrong trough. If you are trying to make silage in a bunker, you have to use the "force dump" command mapped in your controls. The keystrokes change depending on your system, but you should be able to check them in the settings - let me know if that helps - if not I will make a quick video to show you.
Why are you guys mowing hay at thirteen fifteen miles an hour when if you used a discbine you would be ripping the gear box out from all of the bumps in the field
You're misusing the word "prototypical." Look it up. Every time you use the word "prototypical," you should be using the word "typical." Don't be offended, I'm just trying to make you better, stronger, faster.
Finally made 1 million dollars. Mainly working other farms. Will buy more fields and expand my farm.

Yeah, that stinks. Wishful thinking, lol. Anything to safe money on equipment.
David Johnson Definitely, I know we never tedded unless it rained before we bailed. That would be a great feature, to have grass turn to hay after a day or two. Wishful thinking for FS19 lol.
That's what a friend of mine said. I ask him like a hundreds questions just to keep it as realistic as I can.
Are you sure? It does on the PC... I would test it out because it may.
Hi, the tip of having the 3 tier lawnmower AND windrower on same traktor has proved Brilliant,
Thank you very much.
now I can have two collectors following me (fyi: follow me mod)
Instant collection, is brilliant.
Glad it helped
@@kingarthursims Hi, it sure did, I was wondering if u got any vids on altering moded silos? yes I have already edited the main xml, but the frazling thing still only holds same amount, this is the silage silo...
Thank you for any assist u can give in advance.
I think the 900 fendt favorit can run backwards
The largest Fendt can - you are correct.
How do you sell the silage bails?
its different on each map.
Which video for which version - Can you link it for me? Different game verisions have different equipment.

I just got the game couple days ago FS17. I'm looking for the best way to build up some $$
they have an official big m on the beta page in-game
Yes, that is correct.
grass does not turn to hay overnight in the standard game on the latest update that is a mod making yours do that
I don't have any mods loaded - It does on PC, but it doesn't on consoles.
i am on PC i currently have goldcrest valley with no mods apart from the kuhn pack, follow me mod and a money mod i have being cutting grass waiting for it to grow again and cutting it again. it takes more than a night for it to grow and at no point has it turned to hay. i double checked before commenting and i have the latest patch. i have being doing this over the past few days to test the krone baler in the straw addon DLC
At 8:57 did someone say detorimene
How to sell a field??
Not possible in 17
@@kingarthursims but you where field 14 there you where hating it
@@kingarthursims or where were you hating at and could I get it
@@kingarthursims and where it is at
Hej
Hi
Just how the game works - Everything is done a lot faster than it is in real life.
Its a game braa
you are cutting the hay field all wrong . cut the head lands first then split the field . work inside to out . you split the time in half .
This game really needs swathers ☹️
It would be more realistic anyway.
You're misusing the word "prototypical." Look it up. Every time you use the word "prototypical," you should be using the word "typical."
Don't be offended, I'm just trying to make you better, stronger, faster.
All right, all right - Will you allow me to use it on train videos, because us model railroaders use that word all the time.
@@kingarthursims LOL, really?! So odd that's a thing.
What do gay cows eat? Hayyyyyyy
It's not even 2017 anymore. #outdated
Um, 2017 is the current version of the game, so #stillrelevent
