  • Being aware of our personal practice connects us with the reason we are called to calligraphy.
Many of are drawn to the craft because of the peace it bring us but understanding how to settle into this peace whilst also improving our writing can be a challenge.
In this video I share some options I would like you to consider in your practice to help you connect more deeply to your writing practise.
I would like to hear your comments on what I have shared here with you.
    Nib - Gillott 303
    Paper - Canson Marker Pad
    Pencil - Pentel 0.3 HB

Appreciate it Paul! I’d love to hear more if you anything else to share on practicing. I find myself often practicing, but not moving onto the next step of producing something with it. Keep it up and hope your handout turns out how you would it!

You should join the PAScribe community on circle. We look at this kind of issue in depth

Thank you. Videos like this always help me. I slow them down and watch how you form the letters. I do notice the more relaxed I am and in tune with my breathing the better my strokes are.

It really is all about the breathing. If you are that serious about learning the letters you should purchase the copperplate course in the scriptorium. The letters in the course are taught in more detail as knowing where the lines sit and why help with the act of writing. Watch me is one thing, getting a detailed explanation is a whole other matter.

@@PAScribe I am in your circle (I am the one who asked when the liquid graphite will be available). I admit I have not taken the course yet, but have bought your book and practice daily. I want to take the course but feel I need to be a bit better.

@@chriswarrior7385 hi Chris. I know you are in the community, I recognised your name. Message Echo in the community. She will tell you how the course changed her approach to copperplate. You will get better on the course. Each section will allow you to see where you are struggling and how to correct it.

The sound is skipping a little on this video but the content is still audible. I don’t speak at all during the writing of the letters. I had recently updated the software so this may have caused a disconnect with the mic, however the I formation is still useful.

Thank you for this comment. I wasn’t sure if it my be my phone or my hearing.(I actually only read the comments to see if anyone else had noticed)

Yes I was just about to mention this, it can be very frustrating when our equipment lets us down. If I were to guess I would think that there is some kind of filter or limiting on the wave form recording, some kind of auto function going on. One way to keep that at bay is to manually set your record volume setting levels and not a (dumb) auto feature trying to guess what it should be.
