Einhander49 I’ve been using it on and off since 1993 and it does work if you’re strength training, building muscle mass and aids in faster recovery in high intensity activities such as football, track sprinters, shot put, javelin, powerlifters, bodybuilders, rugby athletes as well as soccer athletes. I’m sure I’ve missed a few. Those most IMPORTANT thing to do while consuming creatine on a daily basis is to stay hydrated! I drink 1 gallon reverse osmosis water per day. Not sure creatine will benefit long distance runners. It’s more for explosive energy. As a runner, I use it during off season strength training and/or summer track season when I am competing.

Socially Distant.. I have heard that RO water (containing no minerals) will flush minerals from your body. A gallon is a substantial amount. I have used RO water for years, but try adding some minerals back to it. I use liquid minerals (Amazon), a few drops (10 or so) per gallon. You can adjust for taste. In a pinch use a little sea salt. For me this vastly improves taste of water to resemble high end bottled water..

Great info once again!I'm gonna have to agree with the guy who said that unless you're a sprinter or a short distance runner, Creatine has no use for you. It's water retention gonna make you bulk up n put on some unnecessary weight. With that said,if for some reason you decide to take it,if you think you need the 'extra strength',an extra boost, make sure you keep your dosage to a minimum. My question to you is you say to use creatine for strength training so its ok to use for fartleks and hiit training but not for endurance running? I use the HCL version due to the monohydrate makes the body retain water. So should I switch out to the monohydrate for long runs or none at all?

My experience, the good and bad of Creatine. Like you said, great for strength and Muscle gains. Personally for me I had a problem with it where I would get Compartment Syndrome Symptoms in my lower legs (Like shin splint type pain and major swelling) after even 1km. I gained 2kg body weight within 2 weeks of taking it (5g per day) and strength went up with weights. After discontinuing use for 3 days, I noticed I lost 1KG body weight and the pressure subsided by around 70%, letting me run distances past 1-2km again. For me, I will experiment with using on strength days and in low doses around 1-2g and not every day, certainly not on long run days. Hopefully this helps someone if they are experiencing lower leg swelling with Creatine use.

Elizabeth nailed this one as usual...first off great shirt. I used creatine about 10-12 years ago in the off season when I was doing Ironman training. It really works for strength building. My coach didn't recommend it but I was kind of hoping the muscle build would make me look more buff.....embarrassed to admit that now but really that was the goal. I wouldn't use it again even off season. I love running long distances and the fluid retention isn't worth it....and I no longer care to look buff like an insecure jerk...hahah. The stuff I took was awful to taste....really gross. I had to hold my nose when I drank down the mix.

Excellent video. All the others I've watched are more from a weight training perspective. I've tried creatine monohydrate for a couple of cycles in the last few years, and I've found it absolutely does help with strength training. I'm a cyclist but haven't seen much advantage in that area. With weight training, It seems to help you squeeze out an extra rep or two, and that's how it helps build strength and subsequent muscle mass. But, as you and other commenters mentioned, it did cause me to gain a few extra pounds. Some muscle, some water weight, and some fat (although that might be from too many midnight Cheetos!😅). The other disadvantage is I do believe you can get connective tissue injuries easier, as the muscles (with a creatine enriched blood supply) gain strength and adapt MUCH faster than tendons, etc.. So, for me it's kind of a mixed blessing. I've always loved bikes and weights, but have found they don't necessarily "play well" together. It seems if you focus too hard on the one, the other definitely suffers....

One would think that if creatine helps with short bursts of energy as stated in the video then it would help sprints, which was also stated in the video. Working sprints in a part of training for running and better training leads to better performance, ergo creatine can be beneficial to runners.

Every top distance runner in the world would be taking the stuff IF it worked. But it doesn't!! It was a bit of a fad a few years ago when some supplement companies no doubt made considerable amounts of money from it but it's rarely talked about these days in the context of top athletes.

(coach Elizabeth here) And that's why I said I don't recommend it for most runners. To be fair, not all top-level athletes disclose what they take (especially if it enhances performance). What are some (if any) of your favorite supplements Mark?

@@TheRunExperience Don't run seriously enough these days to even think about taking any supplements. When I was much younger and training very seriously I did try numerous supplements in the pursuit of that extra 1 or 2 % (all absolutely legal I must add here) but none of them worked! Adequate diet and sufficient sleep were the two most important "supplements" but, basically, it's more about getting your trainers on and running yourself stupid on a regular basis!

If you’re a runner ONLY, then don’t take creatine. If you’re weight training and running, then it’s ok.
