Yes, I'd have to remove the plastic to do it. Wrapping is an interesting idea. Could get ore creative with it. For sure I'll be redirecting the blinker wires.
I'd look at a way to hide the turn signal wires. Drill a couple of holes somewhere and feed each wire through a rubber grommet when you get back. Not got panniers on mine (yet) mainly because I don't like the aluminium finish. Never considered painting/powder coating/wrapping them in white. Be good to see how it looks in white, but powder coating would be best, but wouldn't a whole lot of disassembly and reassemble be needed to protect the plastic parts from heat. Enjoy your ride.
For sure it would be a bit of a hassle. Would have to drill out those rivets, remove the plastic, get the powder coating done, then redo the rivets. Not sure it's worth it, but I do think it would match the bike well and make everything look more purpose-built. Thanks Jerzy!
@@KARMAkazeMoto I think the panniers in white would look great-and different from everyone else. Just got back from a 16 day trip down to Croatia and Serbia, but on the KTM RC8 and not the Himalayan. My Himalayan came with the rack fitted, but I have just bought a bracket that moves the rear light backwards about 4 inches. It came with the pannier kit instructions, but you don't seem to have this bracket on your set up, so just wondered if you did have one in the kit.
Thanks. So, I haven't had any problems with them, and there was no issue with the oiler, but to be honest they didn't get much use. I swapped them out for the soft panniers by Mosko Moto prior to the Prudhoe Bay trip seen here: ua-cam.com/video/82s86NYZvIo/v-deo.html
@@KARMAkazeMoto LOL thanks - I see that now in the later videos. I'm kind of all over the place with the series and really should watch everything in order!
That looks so nice! I want one of these bikes. Went down to my local dealer, but the salesman actually talked me out of it. I'm 6'3" and 320lbs. He said it wouldn't have enough umph for me to get up to highway speeds. Guess I'll have to wait until they get the 650 in stock. I just hope the bike isn't much heavier. I want a smaller bike I can whip around and the 400lbs of this model was pushing it as it is.
Mine aren't painted either. I like the silver ok and hope to get a silver top box also at some point. Currently I have a cheapie oxford top box which locks for my helmet, but that's it.
I'm getting a lot of pressure to stick with sliver. I might forgo the powder coating plans. Having a helmet box is really nice. I'm constantly carrying my helmet into the grocery store, etc. Bit annoying, but I once say a guy at a gas station who walked in with his helmet on his bike. When he came out some punk had taken it. Guy was beside himself about it. Not gonna happen to me! I carry my helmet from now on.
Another great video. I have added hard bags to a few of my bikes. One suggestion I would offer if you have a factory hole that has no bolt in it I would run a tap thru the hole instead of the saddle bag mount bolt. This will remove the paint and the loctite will ad hear much better. Really enjoying your channel.
bro can u give review of panniers , do u have problem to remove them as they unlock from inside , also completely waterproof?? and as we tight them manually , do they get loose over time while riding??
@KARAMAkaze, such simple step by step process. love it again! (did the Givi engine guards). Can you do a comparison on hard and soft luggage system? thanks in advance.
So did you color these panniers in the end? Might buy a used himalayan with black panniers, they show some scuffs on the pictures, was also thinking of paint, or wrapping an idea?
Awesome panniers mate, but those wires really kicked off my OCD! Drill a hole in the rear fender and hide them suckers for the love of money 🙏 oh, and no to painting them white. By the way, I love how you pronounce pan nears, I like to call them pan yes 👍 I’ll be doing my pan yes installation vid soon 😎, you’re much calmer than me in the workshop haha. ATB Jason.
Alright Jason, just for you I'll tidy those wires up! For viewers sake, do as the manual shows. For my own sake, go back and modify to my liking. 🙂 Even my Tutoro got a treatment with orange oil tube. That was only because I happened to see the orange tubing at the hardware store. I think I've missed a couple of your vids. BMW is coming along nicely I presume!
My kit was missing the Bolts and the harness extensions. You wouldn't happen to have the Extension part numbers written down? I can't find them anywhere and our only RE dealer seems to have trouble getting anything from them.
Sorry to hear that. Those are crucial parts to finish the job. I didn't have it written, so I looked through archived videos. Could almost make it all out clearly, but not quite. Pulled the fender/plate hanger off the bike and took a direct look. Some of the numbers didn't print perfect, but it pretty clearly looks like P# 1040309/8. Perhaps the / was suppose to be a 7, but I don't think so. Could be 104030978. Unfortunately, I think you'll still have trouble tracking it down. On a couple of parts dealer sites, that part isn't listed, nor are the pannier racks even shown in the Himalayan parts diagrams. Not cool. Hate to be the one to say this, but you might need to procure some bolts (stainless) and wire with connectors to do the job yourself. 😬 I hope I helped you a little, or at least that you get it sorted out before any long trip.
Not sure how the plastic parts of the panniers would fare during the baking part of the powder coating process, I suspect they would have to be taken apart. Maybe a 2k paint (cold curing) would be better? I'm sure the folks at the powder coat place would be able to advise.
I just looked it up and Powder Coating can be cured at 350°F (176°C) so it's possible the plastic would be totally fine. But it would still need to be removed to do a good job of coating the entire box. I'm getting some interesting feedback from people though, including doing a wrap job, and yeah, there's always paint. Would be easy that way.
I would suggest to keep them original as they look nice and shiny ;) White tends to catch more dust and panniers are something which are more exposed to dust I feel. Just my 2 cents :)
Hey, run the lights under the taillight. I've rerouted some of my wires to under the seat including that green and red, you can probably even do it without using those extenders. Won't be visible that way and no drilling required. Edit, still visible. idk, i'd definitely just drill a hole under your black rack and run the wires through that, less stuff showing.
There's a guy on here who had me look at his. Really simply just took the wires out to the sides, from under the finder, right near the end of the fender. Makes the wires unnoticed, and there's no special drilling involved. Super simple. Will probably take that approach. Wish I had done it before my Prudhoe Bay trip, but better late than never.

My kit comes with a bracket to put the brake light back a few inches. The old bracket has some rubber washer that looks to be riveted in and the new bracket has nothing. So as I snug down the brake light on the new bracket I hear a little crack sound and the light is wobbly on the bracket. Scared to go tighter. Guys I need some advice.
A hole in fender with a grommet would tidy the wiring up a bit. No big deal either way. On powder coating those beautiful boxes....no. I like your videos by the way.

I ended up switching over to Mosko Moto prior to my ride to the Arctic. I like the boxes for short camping trips and getting groceries. I used the Moskos Moto for the rugged stuff. Couple pounds lighter. 🙂👍
I just picked up my black Himalayan from the dealership for the first time. They had installed the panniers and racks like I asked, but they handed me the rear rack and said "it wouldn't fit with the pannier rack and the instructions with the panniers said to take it off." What? I just watched your informative video and you didn't have that problem so I'm wondering who the tech was that did the job and why couldn't he do it right? Also, my indicator wiring is above the fender on both sides out in the open and looks awful. I'm going to have to re-do the job myself (except I had to leave the rear rack at the dealer who is 150 miles away because it wouldn't fit in the panniers!)
This is ridiculous. Considering the rear rack mounts to the same holes, it would have to work... unless the inner diameter of the rear rack is distorted. The side rack fits inside the rear rack where the bolt goes through. Even if that was the case, they could have drilled it a bit. And the wiring outside the fender? Sounds like a rush job. I hope you update me on what you find and if you end up getting it corrected.
@@KARMAkazeMoto I sent them a link to your install video. They wrote back "Thanks for the video! I can definitely ask and take care of that when you come back as well for the wires. Sorry for the inconvenience but we will definitely do it right for you! The instructions weren’t the best from Royal Enfield as well." So it will be corrected but not until May as that will be when I get the mileage up to 500km and the weather will be warm enough to ride it again (I live in eastern Ontario) You will appreciate that, living where you do!
Hi great videos what about moving the real light back The racks I got had a bracket so you could move the rear light back so people can see your brake light and your running light ? Like your videos very informant keep them coming 👍 Adie UK 🇬🇧

I would leave the boxes the way they are. One reason is that they will act as bike protection if it falls over and in my opinion battlescars look better and you don't need to worry about a respray ha ha. There are other reasons too.
As others have mentioned, the cables should run through the original indicator holes. As for painting...uugh, please no. Building in future problems. Just cover them in stickers as you travel around the world. Ride safe J.
I think it'll end up stickers. For one thing, I have more pressing things to tackle than getting white powder coating. Nothing in the budget for that right now. 🙂👍
Not a fan of the directional wires going up and under the fender. There should be a way to snake the lines back so you can use the existing holes in your fenders from the previous directional mounting.
The existing holes make it so the wires are then more out in the open. They can be kept under the fender, then directed to the sides instead kept at the center. I still haven't changed it yet, but it's easy to do and looks better. Thanks Mark!
Thanks for the video. Are these the 26L panniers? I was going to buy them but they look awfully large in the video, which is not too compatible with living in New York. Not even sure if they make any other size than 26L anyway

Another great video, but those wires are very noticeable to me. I'd try to run them under the fender on each side on the backside of that rear cross member to make them less obvious. It's hard to believe RE intended them as you've installed them. As for the new boxes, just cover them with stickers of the places you've ridden to like everyone else does. They'll be covered in no time at all. Or perhaps commission a portrait of your woman to be painted on them. You stay classy Alaska. ;-)
That's true, I'm sure to have more and more stickers. I use to always get patches for my bag, but I need to start collecting more stickers. I love that portrait idea! I just shared that with Dee! 😆

YES! Looking forward to using these more before the season ends to go get groceries. Plus, in a pinch, you could actually fry an egg in one. Now that's what I call dual purpose! 😃
The factory placed the panniers opening forward, I guess they act as air brakes if you forget to close and lock them, and the signal wires are completely hidden, A paper in them stated a ludicrous weight limit of 5KG each side, so very light groceries, I guess?
I also thought the max weight was on the light side. I think you can carry more if you are only doing street riding, but on rough terrain, RE must be concerned about vibration and repetitive impact cracking frames. That's my guess.
Those hard panniers look realy good on the himalayan :) About the colour, the white ceramique might look realy good :) but they alreay look good in aluminium colour so :) its about personal taste i guess :) Great DIY video, congrats :)
Good question! I hadn't even noticed. I know the racks themselves recently went on sale. They must not have updated the package price. I would seriously consider writing RoyalEnfieldKing on eBay about that. Might get the price adjusted.
The length of the wires is an issue, but also you end up with a lot of external wires. What I'll probably end up doing is Leaving the wires almost entirely the way they are, but right at the very end of the Fender go to the left and right instead of up at the center of the rear edge of the Fender. The wires will reach and there's absolutely nothing complicated about it. Looks a lot nicer.
Nice panniers and get some indicator blanking plates from enfieldaccessories.co.uk to cover the holes and how about putting a hole in the rear mudguard/fender and passing the wires through, then they would be totally hidden 🤔😀👍🏻
Thanks Mark! I think I'll splurge on those blanks to fill the old holes. As for the wires, I've seen they can just be passed out under the sides of the fender which is the easiest thing to do and looks so much better. Probably going to take that approach.
I think I'd leave them silver. My Himalayan's granite black, so mine match the bike, but my wife's bike is blue/white, and the silver looks better on hers.
Thanks Man! A bit boring for anyone wanting ride videos, but pretty helpful for anyone thinking about getting the pannier racks. Takes all the guesswork out of the install process. Congrats on being the first to comment. 🙂👍
Leave them aluminum, paint will only get scuffed and then they will look like a POS. Powder coating is more impact durable, but you’d need to completely disassemble them, removing the plastics to enable the coating to be baked in an oven for 25 minutes or so at 450 deg F. Just saying.
I added this Secondary LED brake strip on the new flat area of the pannier cross brace/indicator holder. Works Great, really bright and inexpensive. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079Y7WLBX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It was an absolute nightmare on the few unpaved roads we used. The Himalayan would have been great.
Got a 28 day trip to France, Spain and Portugal starting in a couple of weeks, which I am doing on the Himalayan. Not decided on which luggage to use yet-soft panniers or a large waterproof roll bag? Decisions, decisions...

I followed your video today. Nicely done! But what is that extra part for?
Nice video, I guess if you mount the no plate and it's light on the bracket between the indicators then you can remove the plastic no plate carrier totally and will tidy the rear a bit
Thanks Raj!
Just ordered these racks! Thanks for doing this video, and keep them up. I'm pretty much following right behind you in your footsteps!
My Himalayan came with the rack fitted, but I have just bought a bracket that moves the rear light backwards about 4 inches. It came with the pannier kit instructions, but you don't seem to have this bracket on your set up, so just wondered if you did have one in the kit.
There was no other special bracket in my kit.
Looks good. Wonder how they've held up over the last year - leaks, fit etc? Also if the close proximity to the chain oiler was a problem?

:-0 And there's My Woman! I just finished watching your 'Seattle to Alaska' series today, well done it was terrific to watch and listen too :-)
That looks so nice!
Looking good for a 650 next year! Did you choose a different bike by now?
They look very good as they are. How do you think they will look after a year if you powder coat them?
Point taken.
I do have a tap kit. That was a really great tip! Wish I had thought of that. 🙂
bro can u give review of panniers , do u have problem to remove them as they unlock from inside , also completely waterproof?? and as we tight them manually , do they get loose over time while riding??
@KARAMAkaze, such simple step by step process. love it again! (did the Givi engine guards). Can you do a comparison on hard and soft luggage system? thanks in advance.
So did you color these panniers in the end?
Might buy a used himalayan with black panniers, they show some scuffs on the pictures, was also thinking of paint, or wrapping an idea?
The extended cables for the lights go through the holes where the lights were originally installed.
I believe that's an ok way to do it, but that is not how it is done in the installation manual.
@@KARMAkazeMoto I see. My panniers were installed by the RE Technicians so I thought that's ideal 🙂
No on the white. Do you feel like they are relatively heavy duty? Five hundred bucks seems like alot. Thanks.
Yes, I think they are RHD. 🙂
I also thought $500 was steep, but they're such a specialized product, and seem to be made fairly well.
Another good instructional, thanks Justin.

@@BikerBytes 🙂👌
I hope I helped you a little, or at least that you get it sorted out before any long trip.
I do like the idea of keeping them easy to clean. Your 2 cents are worth a lot! 🙂

Thanks David! I appreciate the feedback. Coming up next are my Jerry Can and Heated Grip installs. Then I get to start sharing the recent trip to Prudhoe Bay.
The box fixations are not good, Are you mountig the box on the right side ?
i think soft luggages could be better with Kriega for exemple and nicer, more practical to put on and off, and the same price.
Why hard bags vs soft bags? And see you have Mosko now? What do you like better.
My F650GS has black hard panniers, bike is all black so looks good, but they pick up every bit of shit that comes off the bike and the road.

I would leave the boxes the way they are. One reason is that they will act as bike protection if it falls over and in my opinion battlescars look better and you don't need to worry about a respray ha ha. There are other reasons too.
I sure don't have to worry about scratched paint if I leave them alone. Good thinking.

The links are broken, can you reupload?
Thank you very much for the video.
Why not just run the wires up through the existing holes on the sides of the fender?
The length of the wires is an issue, but also you end up with a lot of external wires. What I'll probably end up doing is Leaving the wires almost entirely the way they are, but right at the very end of the Fender go to the left and right instead of up at the center of the rear edge of the Fender. The wires will reach and there's absolutely nothing complicated about it. Looks a lot nicer.

You will have to remove all plastic to powder coat
Yup. Sort of a pain with the rivets.
Leave them aluminum, paint will only get scuffed and then they will look like a POS. Powder coating is more impact durable, but you’d need to completely disassemble them, removing the plastics to enable the coating to be baked in an oven for 25 minutes or so at 450 deg F. Just saying.
