When my mother died, my vindictive older brother who caused all kinds of trouble in the weeks leading up to her passing, deliberately went into my father's liquor cabinet, poured glasses for himself, my oldest brother, my father, and my cousin and toasted my mother while I was in another room after I made the arrangements for my mother's service. This was almost seven years ago. Even if all of them got together right now and did that toast again, it wouldn't be the same, but there are two toasts I will hold onto forever.
When Winchester says to Hawkeye, "To our fathers," after the "Sons and Bowlers" episode where we find Winchester being there for Hawkeye as moral support while Hawkeye's father is being operated on, it struck me very hard. Winchester saying he and his father have been 12,000 miles apart in the same room was moving as well as I can relate. I often told my wife what Winchester said, "Where I have a father, you have a Dad."
    RIP, David Ogden Stiers.
The other toast was the one Potter did for his four fallen friends when he has a bottle delivered to him. He shares it with the other major characters. I will do something similar with three others when my father goes and will include a friend who lost both of her parents.

I was grade 2 when it finished.
My mum always watched it and it was when I got older that I saw why.
The show reminds me of her,my childhood.
I have now watched the series loop around 12 times and I never not watch it.
I always get sad on the last episode but the next day, bam! There's Henry, trapper and the whole gang again.
It's timeless. This vid made me reflect and feel some loss but it's there in the universe now to watch whenever.
Thankyou to the entire MASH family for being part of mine.
    Love this show always.
Didn't realise how much of a crush on hotlips I still have rrrrrrreow.

MASH was a fine production, so were other shows, but no one has ever been able to explain why the last episode was such a Press phenomenon. It still holds the record for the most views of a non-Superbowl show, which was because of all of the press the finale received.

Watching M*A*S*H made ME a better human. I drove to Miami Fl to see the Smithsonian exhibit of the series as it was my favorite show. Among the sets of the swamp, the mess and the surgery, there were letters from viewers. One was from a viewer that was so mad about killing off CL Blake that he wrote that he would never watch the show again. He wrote that the show was supposed to be a comedy and he was so mad. Guess what, it was not a comedy...well, I guess it was a black comedy and if that is what it takes to make others see what happened to my father and mother in Korea...so be it. Thanks so much for telling the truth. I don't think the US was quite ready for it. All of you were far ahead of your time.

I’m sure none of them really had to “act” when filming the final episode. All of those emotions were clearly real.

It’s hard. A person can understand losing a friend here or there but when you lose everyone at once is the hardest. It happened to me in n Iraq in 2004. I lost all my brothers at once. Not by death but just by simply going home. 🇺🇸
